  1. 10 minutes to remove bearing in the bike...no need to pull the engine. Came out easy, tapped back in.....now just buttoning everything back up....I took pictures...will post later
  2. Drained the oil, installed a magnetic oul drain plug...haul g bike to friends shop...gonna weld some bolts on and use a slide hammer and yank it out....
  3. Got the nut off easy as pie....BUT I noticed a chunk/dent in the edge of the nut....so I'll order another one now....
  4. Just got my socket today...big sucker!
  5. Broke loose case bolts, removed half moon retainers....just waiting on my giant 55mm socket to arrive...
  6. Dang....was hoping it would be a simple swap
  7. I imagine it would fit fine other than the manifold/carb setup....anyone do this? I MAY have a nice low mileage 1300 with ivans jet kit installed in carbs to use... ...would be nice having 100+hp instead of 75 hp
  8. Ready to start working on it this week finally got the new bearing....been busy with other stuff unfortunately
  9. 3 whole hockey pucs abd one cut down a little worked great....up in the air waiting on me to do brakes front wheel bearings and repack rears/grease everything
  10. 40 k miles....going to do front wheel bearings and brake pads. Is it typical to also do rear bearing seal kit at the same time? This is my first shafts drive bike.....
  11. Does the clutch lever feel ok? Any small leaks? What kind of brake fluid are you using in the clutch master cylinder?
  12. I went from Dino oil (previous owner had oil changed every 1000 miles at dealership) to Castrol full synthetic 4t and it was smoother running. Then switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic 4t and AGAIN smoother running and quieter (only had few hundred miles on Castrol). I did NOT notice this difference ony Roadstar when I went from Castrol to Mobil 1. I think different engines do prefer different oils. Another thing....I went to O'Reillys Auto Parts and they had the big gallon jus od Mobil 1 synthetic car oil on sale for $25.99 or $27.99....they do NOT make 4t MoBil 1 synthetic in anything put quart bottles. So in asked if I could get the same deal for same quantity and they agreed. So I bought all they had in stock....something like 20 bottles for about $5.50 a qt instead of $10.99. Never hurts to ask...!
  13. Ingot a solid rubber stopper from the hardware store for .20....works great. Got it all back together and no leaks. .
  14. I am flushing my coolant on my 97 RSTC and when I removed the fins to access the rubber plugs to get all the coolant I found one of them missing. Is there anything I can use in place of a stock one? Non yamaha dealer in my city and don't want to wait a week to order one online
  15. Skydoc_17 full kit is great. ....worth every penny and much nicer than stock.
  16. I have don't 2 things tobget rid of the squeak on the clutch lever... 1st....the plastic rectangular piece mounted to the underside of the perch need some grease pushed into the spring 2nd....the rubber boot that gets compressed when you pull the clutch lever can be too clean/grease free after washing the bike. I used a little 3 in 1 oil on that... Quiet and smooth now
  17. Got my brackets cut down to support my stock exhaust. Can't find any Harley mufflers in the are and don't want to mess with making new brackets. How are people modifying/drilling out the stock exhaust to get lower/louder sound? http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq14/sbojrab/Mobile%20Uploads/20160506_135922_zpsoc9codor.jpg

  19. Couldn't find a nice one so sent my Corbin to Butler for mod and recover. ...should be perfect....
  20. Well I went riding around town and on the highway....pretty much full throttle a lot of the time.....never beat on my bike so much before but it was sooooo fun. I found out my RSV will go 120 mph on gps...took a while but felt like it might have some left. Funny thing was ingot 32 mpg on that tank with beating the hell out of my bike....WOT a lot of the time and 100 mph several times (showing a Harley and my old Roadstar what a V4 does from 60 up)..... Really liking this big ol tank of a bike....
  21. Not having to worry about that spring is a BIG relief. My mechanic buddy said we could weld something to the bearing to pull it out with a slide hammer (has done before on Harleys). Install we will try to make something to push with equal force. Love this site and roadstarclinic.com......so much info....
  22. I bought one from him for my 02 RSV and tried to use it on the RSTC...
  23. So, for the purpose of removing and replacing the bearing.... I would loosen but NOT remove the 55mm bolt? Crack loose the case nuts a little to allow some movement I would have to totally remove the large plates that hold the bearing top and bottom What would I do with the small half moon shims/thrust washers under the nut? Thanks for all the input.....very much appreciated!
  24. Good....I was thinking I was reeeeaaally stupid not being able to lift it! I'll get some hockey pucs..
  25. I bought the Carbon One lift adapter and stand package for my 02 Venture. Never used it yet. I want to lift my 98 RSTC to do more work on it. However I can't seem to get this lift adapter to fit/LINE up with the center stand holes. How do you all safelybliftvand support the bike to work on it?
