  1. It is lucky I spent 23 years in the Air Force going to different countries protecting the interest of the US, which has allowed me to see many strange things, like in the Philippians, the Nipa Hut drinking Red Horse Beer, and Sam Miguel beer, some grass shack in South Korea drinking soju, Oscar Champaign and ammo bowls, Thailand eating live squid and drinking I do now know what, along with other sights and sounds before coming a preacher. I can handle this chat room :dancefool: Ripping the sheet off the bed, SIGN ME UP! LETS CHAT!
  2. @cowpuc there is a good story here I would like to hear it.

  5. Chat room, there is a chat room Is drinking allowed in the chat room:beer: I bet you smoking is not allowed in the chat room:no-no-no: Actually it took me a few times to figure out what that thing was on top of the forum, then I figured out it was a chat room. I have seen activity but when I am on I have not seen anyone in chat. I guess my question is, how expensive is it, and how hard to maintain?
  6. What he said, I want to see pictures I do not remember if in here or another motorcycle forum, someone painted their bike with that plastic paint, and when they got tired of the color they pealed it off and put another color on.
  7. I think HV is become more popular because of all the crazy cage drivers looking at phones and other crap while driving. Motorcycles need every advantage we can get. I do not always where HV stuff, but if I know I am going to be out after dark or ride in poor weather conditions I wear my green reflective vest. Of course the late 20s-40 generation today are a little more safety concerned. We have a guy in our motorcycle group that has a HV full face helmet, you can be on the back of 20+ bikes and he will be leading and you can see him, rain or sun, he stand out like a sore thumb. I would rather stand out, the be laying flat out on my back on the highway

  9. I am in South GA I think gas went up here. I needed gas the cheapest I could find it was 1.79 a gallon. It was around 1.62 the other day. I guess new taxes starting to come in. Need to pay for someone AC office.
  10. My dad was into dresser motorcycles, guns and ham radio. I wonder where I get these expensive hobbies from....... My dad had part of the basement with full radio gear, band then it was tube gear and big, bulky and would heat up the basement in the winter. You would think in our backyard we had an aluminum farm growing with all the antennas back there. In the spring and summer (this was right out side Kansas City MO) when the thunderstorms would come through if the tornado warning went off, the work bench we would be under was across from the ham radio table. Of course any time we heard thunder we had to make sure all the coax was undone from the radios. Lighting wold strike those antennas and the end of the coax would look like an ark welder going off dancing around the floor. I got my ham ticket in 1976, been in and out of ham radio, much like motorcycles, technology has brought it a long way. Still enjoy it, but enjoyed it more, at night, with the glow of the radio tubes and dial listening to some far off station.
  11. Other than some smaller bikes I have always had a tach on my bike, I did own a Honda VTX1300 without a tach. I like a tach I know it is not required with the speed limiter on our bikes, but I would still like to have one.

  15. @BigClayton Hey thanks for the pics, I did not know anyone else besides Yaesu VX-8GR made an HT with APRS built in. I looked on QTH.com and seen a FT1D for sale but listed in December, so I have emailed him to see if it is still for sale. I have an 07 RSV and I would like to take the CB out and put in a 2 meter rig. But I hear a lot of the guys traveling in groups still use CB. I would like to put APRS on my bike. Not sure if it is a good idea, then the wife could keep track of me LOL. Funny story, when APRS was first coming out, the ham club I was with was helping with a bike ride (peddle bike) and we put APRS on a couple of the bikes. Well I borrowed a radio and I was playing with it. I had it in my car, and I sent out several messages to people to say hey check the aprs web site to see if you can track me. I forgot it was in my car. My wife calls me one day and ask, where you at. Oh in the office I replied, she says why does APRS say you are at Zaxby's........ For those up North or West, Zaxby's is a buffalo chicken chain around here, that I just love to eat at. So much so my wife was like you are eating there to much. So from then on, when I was going out to eat, I would leave the APRS (VX-8DR) in a bush near to where I parked my car at work........ However a good use for APRS, I use to get paid by the miles and the church I was at was kind of picky where you went. I would just print out a map each day and that way they knew who I visited. I am planning a couple long trips this year, one is to MO, I would like to have APRS so wife and others can know where I am at. Again thanks for the info.

  17. @BigClayton I have been following you on APRS. Not sure if others know how to do that, click on the link you provided, then on the left click on display track, and a red line will show where you traveled too. I have not caught you on the road yet to see if tracks while you are driving. When you get a chance, send some pics of your APRS setup. I would like to add that to my motorcycle too Well keep warm, and drive safe. Larry
  18. @aharbi Thanks for the pics and the post, I am getting interested in getting one of these. I like how it looks on the half helmet. I wear that a lot down here in the summer. Larry

  23. I will try to keep up with you on Findu. I am interested in the APRS part, I was wondering how much that is used today. I have been a ham radio operator since 1976 with a KB0 call you must not be to far from me. I think I mentioned my original call was KA0FEV. if you have time to read. I was stationed in AK and turned in my KA0 call for an Alaskan Call, NL7NY upgraded to advanced and got the AL7NS call. Well with the change in vanity calls when I left AK and got retired from the AF I did not have to change my call to the local area. So I kept my AK call, computers have taken some of the fun out of it, but get on the air and people will pick you up real quick with an AK call then they get disappointed real quick too. The joke here is I do not need an amplifier because the AL7 call adds 10db gain to the signal. I ran across on youtube a guy that video me talking to his friend and him on 10 meters. I knew they thought I was in AK and the more I told them I was in GA the more they thought I was in Georgia AK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TswPW0yA4uw Through the church we started a ham club, we use to go out and do special event stations, here is a funny video I tried to do with that Well 73s I will check back in with you later.
  24. @aharbi Thanks for the info on this action cam, I was looking at it too. I do not always wear a full face helmet. I am in South GA and in the summer I do enjoy the shorter helmet. Couple quick questions. 1. is it easy to turn on and off the video as you are driving down the road. I do some group riding and I would like to be able to turn off and on, South GA much like Texas, many straight roads with no turns in them. I do not need a half hour of everyone riding in a straight line. 2. Second question to anyone riding a Venture, I noticed that bike was not a Yamaha..... I would like to mount to the bike, but where? I did have a camera that worked well mounted to the handle bars, but when I put a dark bagger shield on there I kind of killed that idea. Again thanks for taking the time to post all the information. larry
