I know I am new here but in my neck of the woods I am know for great stories, so I am trying to match up to @cowpuc a run him a run for his money with stories. This morning I seen two stories about messing with electronics, one with the passing lights the other with putting the battery in wrong. Well this story isn't a motorcycle story but it still fits with stupid things I have done. There I was...... new in the Air Force (1981), working on the mighty T-38. Anyone that has worked on or few aircraft know that every so many hours they go through different phase inspections. Well being young, new and dumb....... What has changed today I am old and not new LOL Ok back on track we had a jet in for a major phase inspection and we needed to get it out to fly. Well we were in a hurry and getting ready to tow the aircraft out to the flight line for some maintenance checks. Remember I have been in the AF for about 6 months and at this base (Laughlin AFB, Del Rio, TX) maybe 2 months. This guy handed me the battery for the aircraft and told me to install it. A T-38 battery is long, and skinny, 24V with a bunch of amps. Well I did the dumb thing, first I took and hooked up the negative first, second I took a box end wrench with instead of a socket and ratchet. Well I put the lead on the positive side, ran down the nut by hand, and then spun the wrench around and it hit the frame of the aircraft. You talk about sparks, and that long thin 3/8 in craftsman wrench turned bright red and welded it itself to the airframe. I just stood there with my mouth open not knowing what to do. This retired GI/civilian walked up with a hammer and hit the wrench, knocking it off. Then he says "dumbass JEEP (Just Enough Education to Pass)." We had a white board on our dock box, so anytime I had a job he would take a marker and write down "DUMBASS: Safety Rule #1 ......... #2 .............. Lucky other than the wrench nothing was hurt, for good measure we changed the battery out with another one. But I had to do safety briefings every morning for about a month until someone else did something stupid. I have a bunch of AF stories as something comes up I may share. Larry

Ricky, Sorry to hear about your chemo. I know I talk more than I act, but as you well know now, life is short, we need to ride everyday we can. My goal this year is to take one long distance trip, been a long time since I took a road trip. At 52 a few health scares plus having friends my age or younger come down with stuff that makes it so they cannot ride. SO GO AND RIDE MY FRIEND

It was 81 degrees and sunny today in South GA. I didn't plan for it to be so nice, so I only got about 40 miles in. Tomorrow suppose to be nice too, staying up late to get some paperwork done so I can play tomorrow.

I was in the Air Force, mainly a F-15 mechanic, hydro and fight controls. We had remove before flight tags on everything. Or red tags on switches. But you would still hear of a jet taking off and the gear would not go up, or the altitude would not read right because some dumbass on the ground forgot to take out the landing gear pin or cover off the side of the jet. Fun times had by all

@cowpuc did it again. On a thread of mine about posting names for our bikes cowpuc tells about his nick name half tube. My question is, and since I am kind of new here, cowpuc how did you go from half tube to cowpuc, I figure there is a story there too. So question is if you have a nick names or names that you have been called over the years, lets here the story on them. This should be a good winter activity. While in the Air Force stationed on Kadena AB, in Okinawa Japan (early 80s) I got the nick name Doogie. During the 80s we had one channel AFRTS, and all TV shows where at least 6 months behind, or not shown at all. Well I had been there about two years and a Chief came from the states and started calling me Doogie but nobody knew why. Later on we found out the hot TV show in the states was about a really smart kid that became a doctor, named Doogie Howser. Well my last name is Hauser, pronounced the same way as Howser. That name stuck for most of my military career. I even got a medal once and on the certificate it said Doogie Howser because the command staff and the commander thought that was my real name. When I played softball for them I was 00 Doogie. When I finally got married they made my wife a T-shirt that said Ms. Doogie on it. When I had my first kid, the squadron came to the hospital with a little softball shirt that said Lil Doogie on it. My wife hated that nick name. I finally made it to Senior NCO status took a job running a school house in GA, and the fellow instructors here were smart enough not to call me Doogie. I think they called me a few other names................. LOL I am in the CMA, Christian Motorcycle Association, but I hang out with a bunch of Hell Fighters, well they all grew beards, most of them have tattoos, the look like the Duck Dynasty folks, I am 52 be 53 soon, I have the hardest time growing a beard, I look like a fat teenage kid big spots on my face of hair. So I just stay clean shaven. Side note I still can go two days without shaving. So they call me Baby Face. Now that I had an time with Bell Palsy over this past Christmas, only half of my face works, my youngest daughter calls me Two Face from Batman. So now the Hell Fighters call me Baby Two Face. Life can be so much fun if you go with the flow.

I have not named this bike, life has been in a hurry 2015. The above story with the VTX I had, right after I bought the RSV my mom died, I had a colon cancer scare, turned out to be nothing. Plus a friend of mine got into the business of buying bikes and selling them. I would pick them up, detail them and usually before I could have a bike detailed he would have it sold. He would pay me a percentage of the sale for detailing and delivering them. Most of the time I road the bikes home and to the person that bought them. I am not sure where he found the bikes, I think Cycle Trader, and the buyers at. But man it was a fun summer riding bikes all over South GA and FL. A couple times I would be riding a gray hound bus to get a bike, with 20K cash in my pocket. I always dressed like a bum carrying motorcycle gear. When I say I didn't name it when I ride down the highway I run the CB and there is still some traffic with truckers on there, looking for picture takers. My made up CB handle is Blue Goose. Larry

I recently bought a Honda VTX 1300 dressed to the max, for 2500.00 Put new tires on it, a guy drove by my house on the 3rd of July and seen the bike and stopped and asked how much I want for it. I was just trying to get rid of the guy and said 6500 cash. On the 4th of July him and a buddy stopped by the house with 6500.00 and asked to test drive it. Well he did and rode it home. I still had (Mid-Life) 01 Victory so I wasn't worried. I was looking for a HD, and almost pulled the trigger on a Ultra Glide, Limited addition for 12,500, but before I could go back to give this guy the money for the HD the guy called wanting to sell the 07 RSV he recently wanted 8K and I offered him 7, no deal, he 6th of July and said I need 6k by 3 pm today if you want the bike come and get it for 6K well I did. And I have been living happy ever after.

I seen, and let me make sure everyone understands that I seen, a bumper sticker a while back that said sticks and stones may break my bones but whip and chains excite me. I am not sure if they were talking about this chat room or not -
You are probably correct, yesterday was first time and it was really to see how great it was.

Let me add one thing, in Carbon One notes he had a warning about leaving the lift part on the bike that pins to the bottom of the bike. I do not have his instructions in front of me but it said something about marking it or flagging it because it is possible to lower the bike and without the legs it is possible to forget this. Well I thought that was stupid, how could someone do that. Well........ I lowered the bike, and then got a phone call, which led to me doing something else, which lead to me doing something else, 4 hours later my wife is headed home, it is raining out so I was going to pull the bike back into the shed..... Well guess what I almost forgot to take off. I am going to get a remove be for ride or some kind of red flag to put on both sides or on the key when lift is installed. I suffer from serve case of CRS.

I had a senior pastor friend of mine that had several bikes and their names where, Visitation, Greens, and I cannot remember them all, but he was at one of those churches and before cell phones, where they had to sign out. He would sign out and put out on Visitation....... I am lucky at a small church, they call I answer, I show up to events and Sunday morning they are happy LOL
