Windshield HEIGHT advice
bugfish69 replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I went to a shorter shield this summer after getting tired of looking through the tall shield in bad weather. After a few trips I noticed I had buffeting at high speeds and put on this windshield trim. It stopped almost all of it. I am happy with it. Another benefit is it blocks the rain from pushing up and over the shield and blowing right in my face. They have a money back guarantee so you really can't lose. Also, if you want to save a few bucks you can by 2nd hand or remnent edging for a better price. This is what I did and I could see no cosmetic indication that it was 2nd hand. http://www.saeng.com/product.php?id=581&category=80 -
*********** Update: All items are spoken for several times. I am in the process of answering PM's. Wow, stuff moves fast when the price is right! I've got a few things just sitting around collecting dust and thought I would offer them up for anyone who wants to cover shipping. 1. Stock standard windshield. In good shape with no scratches. I switched to a showchrome and no longer need it. 2. Clarion cd changer. Was installed when I purchased and I did not like it. I skipped on bumpy roads. Someone suggested mounting on rubber washers but it was taking up valuable space anyway. If you want to try it let me konw. 3. Left side saddle bag liner by Bestem. I purchased the 3 bag set but I keep the tools / raingear / rags etc... in the left bag and I have never used it. I only use the right side and trunk bags. Send me a PM with your location and I will find the best shipping quote.

I also have ubuntu on my netbook. I have been pleased with it so far. And with open office' but I am not really doing any serious work either.

GXM 30 for zumo on bike. Roady xt everywhere else. Roady is a really nice unit and can be found for a good price.

you ruled out the titanum. I would get that one.

Buy or Make the thumbnut screws for the front seat and saddlebags so that no tools are required for removing them. Rick Butler sells them in the classifieds or there are several posts from people who have made their own. I also carry most of the tools listed by others. On my first long trip I tried to take care of several things with the Yamaha kit and found out how useless it was. After this past trip I have to decided to remove it completely from the bike.

Glad to hear you are doing ok. Don't be afraid to try the Coke. Wendy and I are Pepsi people too, but when we were in Ireland the Pepsi did not taste right so we drank the Coke. Seemed like they were switched. Take Care. Jamie & Wendy

cause I think it looks really good. I'm not looking to buy and I'm happy with my RSV, but if something happened and I had to replace it today, I don't think I could buy a 2009 or 2010 bike with a tape deck in it. That's just absurd. As much as I like my RSV, Yamaha has to at least pretend to be keeping up with the others. http://z.about.com/d/motorcycles/1/7/k/k/-/-/Victory_CrossCountry_static_large.jpg

Hot Springs was very nice (except for the traffic trying to cross downton). We really liked it out around Lake Ouachita. And the ride down 7 from Marble Falls was great. We verred off to have lunch on Mount Magazine which has an awsome view. I would definately recommend it.

Mines mounted in the fairing as well. The signal is definately not as strong as being mounted outside, but I don't have problems 95% of the time and I like the clean look of not having it on the bars.

Not enough information to know if I would buy, but I would definately be looking at the new Cross Country from Victory. http://z.about.com/d/motorcycles/1/7/g/k/-/-/CrossCountry_Cherry.jpg

I know it's been said many time on here, but I would not feel right it I did not give Rick Kudos for working on my seat. We just returned from the international rally on Sunday (we took an extra week in Hot Springs) and there is no way I could have made that trip before getting my seat worked on. 16 days and 3,600 miles in all. I know that is not a lot for some people, but before getting the seat worked I had a hard time riding gas stop to gas stop. I would have to say that is now my favorite mod since getting the RSV 2 years ago. Also, it is probably the cheapest!

I second that. We just got home from the International Rally on Sunday. We took the Cumberland and Daniel Boone parkways all the way across KY. Then hit 460 in VA. It was a great ride. On the way out we hit the bluegrass parkway which was really nice also. We will definately be back to KY.

The rear shock on my 05 RSV will not hold air pressure for a full ride. I start out with 40# and after a days ride it is down to 20# or less. Is this normal? I have seen mention of oil leaking and I don't see anything dripping or wet. There is however a lot of grease buildup on the bottom of the shock. What should I test or look for to confirm a bad shock? What affect would a bad shock have on handling?

What is the expected life of front brake pads? I bought my 05 almost two years ago with 5,000 miles. It now has 23,000 on it. I bought a set of pads to put on before heading out to the rally the pads on there seemed almost new. The inner pads seemed to be a little more worn, but none were even halfway yet. Is that normal wear? Jim

with the 2010 Cross Country Model. Now they need to fix the price part. http://z.about.com/d/motorcycles/1/7/g/k/-/-/CrossCountry_Cherry.jpg

Does it make a difference? Went to get DOT 3 and could only find DOT 4. I was told they were the same. Is this true? Which should I use for a 2005 RSV? Thanks, Jim

I have a 2005 RSV that purchased used on 07. It is under warranty until next year and I have transferred the warranty but I don't remember getting any information on the roadside assistance I've seen mentioned here. How can I tell if I have the coverage and get the number? Also, if I am not covered what are your recommendations for a Roadside Assistance plan? I have been looking at the plans from AMA and MRF, but would like feedback from those who have used the various plans. Thanks, Jim

Is there a trick to getting the zumo to pick up the contacts from my phone? I have deleted the connections several times and can not get the contacts or the call history to work on the zumo. On 2 occasions after parking the bike, removing the zumo and coming inside the house I noticed a message on the phone saying the zumo wants to download my contacts, but I can not get it to do this while i am actually trying. Thanks, Jim

How far from Lamberts to the Hub? If rolling from Lamberts by 2 - 2:30 what time would we arrive? Won't know our plans for sure until we meet with the other VA riders to plan our route this weekend, but all the talk about Lamberts makes me hungry! I had already been wondering about eating there since our route will likely take us so close.

for this crime, but it's more than most get. I'm glad this phase is behind you all and you can build from here. Our prayers will still be with your family. Jim

The wife and I also like our Nolan N012. They are very comforable. We both went through a couple of cheaper helmets before getting these. I love the way the J & M comm unit plugs in. No more fighitng to keep everything attached. For 3/4 helmet check out the N42 or N42E. http://www.nolanhelmets.com/images/helmets/n42encom16.jpg
