  1. I have a friend that has an 1100 V Star Classic that wants to change his exhaust to get a little better sound. What will he have to do with his fuel system to make this change? I do not know anything about this bike but would like to provide him with some suggestions...
  2. I had the same issue with my '03 while heading to Panama City a couple of years ago. The issue was the connector that tapped the current from the low beam circuit to power the passing lamps had severed the wire. If you have passing lamps I'd look there first... Here is a link to the posts around my issue. I hope this helps! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48075
  3. Here are her's and mine. Hers is a '05 VTX 1300 Motortrike and mine is an '03 RSMV...
  4. Great looking bike Brian! I hope you are able to get it. That was my next choice beyond the RSV and I will always have a soft spot for them...
  5. Thank you Sir! That is what I was afraid of, but I was hoping to hear that I could squirt a little contact cleaner in a hole on the bottom of the switch and all would be magically restored...
  6. Yesterday, right after pulling out into traffic, I glanced down and noticed that I had no speedometer reading or odometer visible on the dash of my '03 RSMV. I reached down and wiggled the key and everything came back on. The trip home was around 120 miles and this happened a couple more times. Each time I was moving on down the road and do not know if the headlights and such were working, just that speedometer area was not. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what can be done to fix it? Thanks! Don
  7. That's great advice. While stopped for road construction in terrible heat in MO on the way to Sturgis this year the clutch in my '03 started acting up and would not disengage. I was pulling a Time-Out camper and figured it was the strain on the bike that led to this, but like posted above the fluid in the reservoir was discolored. I bought a syringe and new fluid and just changed out what was in the reservoir a couple of times while up there. This completely cured all of the symptoms. A fellow Yamaha rider at our campground suggested this, and after his advice I will be doing this annually...
  8. I had the exact same thing happen on my '83 as a result of my adjusting the pedal free play as described above. Luckily my wife and I were able to make it into a parking lot before it locked completely up. If we were not going down hill I don't think it would have made it. Good luck, and please don't underestimate how important that seemingly innocent pedal adjustment can be on this bike...
  9. Great! Thanks folks, I never even thought these may still be available as new OEM parts...
  10. My brother bought my '88 VR and before he had a chance to ride it after he got it home his area was hit with the tornadoes on April 27th. He was fortunate in that he had only minor damage to his home. His bike was in his shed but was blown over and the windshield and right side mirror were both broken. I had a spare windshield luckily and have already set him up with that. He still needs a right side mirror. If anyone has a spare please let me know what you would need for it and I'll be happy to pay a reasonable price for it. We have tried ebay but have been outbid. We'll keep trying, but I thought someone here may have a spare lying around... Thanks! Don yamadawg
  11. It looks like she'll clean up nicely and make you proud! I have a soft place in my heart for the '83's. I always thought those models were the best looking 1st Gens. They were sportier... more like a sport-tourer instead of a touring bike. I liked the sweep and size of the bags and the way the pipes looked.
  12. Thank you for all of the great responses. I did fail to mention that the battery is 3 years old and has given no problems and shows no signs of issues.. no slow starts, and no dimming or brightening of lights. I found it hard to believe that anyone at a quick change oil place would reliably supply that diagnosis. I do use this particular place to change the oil on four vehicles, and rely on them for oil changes only because with traveling I really don't have the time to give up personally. This was my wife that they told this, and most likely they were looking to take advantage of her. It looks as if this is how they choose to do business I'll have to look for another source for this service.
  13. I have what may well be a stupid question regarding the battery in our '01 Chevy Tahoe. While having our oil changed at the local quick change place they told my wife that the battery tested out as having a dead cell. We have had no signs of issues with the battery since she was told this three weeks ago. The battery turns the motor over quickly, even with the temperature in the teens lately and has shown no sign of fading. But it has me wondering... Could this be true, or are they simply trying to fool the public?
  14. We saw the commercial today!!!! Rolled it back with the DVR and watched it over a few times. It was great to see a fellow VentureRider and a Midnight there on the tube. Great job!!!
  15. Mrs. Yamadawg has a VTX 1300 Trike with the Motor Trike conversion and it has a windshield instead of the fairing. We would like to add a sound system and need some recommendations and watch outs. We are looking to do a permanent mount with radio and need ports for a MP3 player and future technologies. I would appreciate any input and ideas. Thanks! Don
