More than once I have had a winter ride on the bike home from work in 6 inches of partly cloudy. As a kid I did not care about snow, I rode my bicycle in anything. Those skinny tires cut right thru the snow to the pavement. The cycles I have ridden in snow handled it much better than I would have thought, but still not really safe. My E3s look like a terrible snow tread.

I do not think there is a significant difference between brands of clutch plates on our bikes. Some members here have gone over 200K miles with the original clutch. Our clutch is designed to hold a LOT more torque than we are making. The one weakness in our clutch is the springs. As long as you upgrade to stronger springs any plate you chose will be fine.

Glad you are back.

:sign yeah that: It is always t-shirt and mowing weather in Florida. Now unusual would be if you posted the the SNOW was to deep to ride.............

Glad to hear the you are still around @cowpuc. You know we miss you, and if you are away to long, we are gonna come looking for you. Sorry to hear the you have been getting way to familiar with all of the docs, they are a tricky bunch. Ya study for one test and then they spring stuff on ya that you didn't study for. Thoughts and prayers heading your way across the pond along with just a little bit of . Not a lot, just a dusting to make it look pretty.

How is a guy supposed to harass you properly when I cant even get through. I have some to do and of course always some to do and maybe even some to do.

The 84 is running again on all cylinders w/new TCI

Could the noise be a bad ignition knock from the timing being way to far advanced? It would be a big coincidence to have a mech problem appear at just the same moment as you put in an "untuned" new ignition. -
I think that now you are talkin my language.

Ahh yes the good old days. My first job I thought I had the world by the tail since I started at the then minimum wage of $1.25 and shortly there after I got a merit raise up to $1.30. Man that was like having all the money in the world. Gas was $0.29/gal US. And ya I busted my tail for that job, that is why I got that big raise. Or as my Father in Law used to say. "Don't give me that crap about the good old days, back then I had to work a full day to fill my gas tank, now I can fill it in an hour."

Rear End Gear Ratio Conversions For Hannigans
Flyinfool replied to bongobobny's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
Not necessarily. In my case almost all of my driving is stop and go city driving. In my case having easier acceleration from a stop and the slightly higher engine speed while driving slow will actually put the engine at a more economical speed for the majority of my driving. That is why I specified that part of the equation is YOUR "normal" driving. I do understand that I will give up a bit of gas mileage at highway speed due to the numerically higher gear ration, but the ease of acceleration at low speed will actually give me an overall better fuel economy. My top speed will not change because that is controlled by the computer speed limiter. which cuts in way before red line or running out of horse power. At least my MPG improvement will start to happen once I stop playing with the potential faster acceleration. Since my bike is also primarily a city commuter, I have been thinking of putting in the V-Max gears for the same reasons. The best gear ratio depends on your specific use. What is best for me may not be best for you. This is the point that I am trying to get across. That is why they make all these different gear ratios. -
My 2 tags is only because I can get my one in Wisconsin and one in Michigan. So I took one buck from each state. We used to get lots of tags, now the deer herd is decimated. Where opening day at first light used to sound like a war zone, in all of opening day this year my shot was the only shot anyone in our group heard.

Sorry to hear about your Vet friend. Please thank him for his service for me. I think I am glad to hear about a new girl friend............ Hope new GF like bikes, that will help rack up the miles. I know the feeling about not getting to ride enough, for me it has been the last 2 years. At least put a tarp to keep the sun and snow off that poor 1st gen, but make sure the bottom is open enough for good air circulation to avoid rust. Make sure it is placed out of the wind so it does not blow over in a winter storm, You know they are coming.

Rear End Gear Ratio Conversions For Hannigans

V-max stock is 3.67 (9 tooth pinion, 33 tooth ring), 1st and 2nd gen Ventures stock are 3.33 (10 tooth pinion, 33 tooth ring). As to getting better gas mileage. I want to change my truck from 3.42 to 4.10 to get better gas mileage. A big part of the equation is your "normal" driving. as to what would work best on a trike, I have no clue. -
Saddlebum is in charge of the cold air. I just get flakey when Saddlebum cooperates........................

A second opinion was not needed on these diaphragms.

Believe it or not, that is one of the cleaner boards that I have seen. That brown goo all over the place is a factory applied coating that is supposed to be there. -
What is all this picking on me while I am away killing deer to make the roads safer for us to ride????? Yes I filled all of my tags. Check Mark √ in my target book. Another check mark √√ in my target book. Sorry, was still calibrating, was aimed more north and east......... Who is this Flyingfool imposter amature you refer to. So soon you forget........Only 2 years ago, I took last winter off............ Another one talking about this imposter called flyingfool, remember what happened to you the last time you made that mistake....................... does 10' ring a bell? Hey I have been up nort deer hunting, filled both of my tags and made all the hunters up there happy with some nice snow for hunting. I am not in charge of cold air, that is Saddlebums department. He has to do his part before I can do my part. I am still putting the finishing touches on the cold air collector up der at da border so that when @saddlebum leaves the back door open to let all of that cold Canadian air slide down here I can collect it and then pipe it in insulated pipes so that I will have colder air for snow making. I just hope that I can get enough volume thru the pipe to keep up with the snowpercharger to maintain full output.

It is on 2 wheels. It must be a balance system like the Segway.

Winterizing the gen 1
Flyinfool replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Winter will happen weather you are rural or smack dab in the middle of a big city.............Trust me............ And then you're going to let/make her watch you be all warm and cozy all winter, and know that the V-Max got to warm and cozy all winter. She may not be happy with that. Man you are going to have to find a LOT of Hardleys and 2nd gens for her to dust off to get her happy again. -

Store it on the center stand, I have had the tire and shock air pressure drop enough with the extreme cold to tip the bike over while on the side stand. Store it where the prevailing storm winds will not have a good shot at it so that it does not get blown over during a blizzard. Plan that it will need an oil change to get the condensation out of the engine come spring. In your case Sta-Bil should be fine. Since I learned how Sta-Bil works I now just use SeaFoam in my gas. Don't forget to run the engine to get the treated gas all the way thru the carbs. Tank topped us full as you can get it, the less air the better. Mine has been living in a steel garden shed since I got it. -

Flyinfool replied to CMCOFFEY's topic in Watering Hole
Scarrrry as it sounds, I have seen worse diaphragms than those. A lot worse, and the bike still ran. Puc, things are "warming up" out in the shed. Gotta get some white stuff for deer hunting, makes it easier to spot them. There may be some collateral damage......................
