If the lens is facing the side it must be ambur if it is facing to the rear it must be red. I am not sure what the proper color should be if it is visible to both the side and rear.

It needs to be mounted to a flat surface. You have to cut a rectangular hole that matches the dimensions of the back side. If you look close at the pic you will see that there is a thin flange around the front. So your hole must be big enough for the meter to fit into but smaller than the flange. You just drop it in your nice new hole and then slide that clip on from behind to secure it. Connect the 2 wires and you are done. I would seal it up with some electrical grade RTV for when you get caught in the rain.

Dang, now I have to go crawl under my truck to check this out. I wonder if this is also true on our MC tires. There was a lot of creative video in that peice to make things look worse than what they really are. Several times they showed a chunk of tread on the side of the road implying that it was from an "old" car tire. the tread that they were showing was from a truck retread which is what most of the tire debris are on the sides of the highways. Then they showed the cars loosing control with "professional" drivers that knew that the tire was going to blow. You can see that the "pro" drivers turned the wheels hard to the side to make the car spin out and crash. I have blown tires at freeway speed and well above freeway speed, and while it did soil my shorts I was never in any danger of loosing control.

There are two "hot" seasons for deer. First is early spring when the does are having their babies. When the mother doe is ready to give birth, she will drive off last years young, those youngsters will be wandering around looking for a new place to live. They do this to spread out the gene pool. If those 1 year old deer did not grow up in an area with roads they will not have been taught how to cross the street. Second big time is late October / early November during the rut, what can I say, but if you can only get some action once a year you will not let anything get in the way, I have seen a buck attack a car because it got between him and a hot doe. The small bucks and does not yet in heat are literally running for their lives from the sex crazed big bucks and may dart in front of you with no warning. Those are the two times of year that you will see the most dead deer laying on the side of the road. As far as daily during the rest of the year, a couple of hours each side of dawn and dusk, or the couple of hours before or after a big storm. Now wheres my deer rifle?

For as long as I have owned this truck, since '96, I have had to service that connection between the pos cables about every 3K miles due to corrosion build up and poor connection. I have been researching to see if I can find a way to disable the Alternator cutoff. No luck so far.

Good call Earl I did do some more research into this and found that there is indeed a high rpm cutoff for the alternator. The reason that I am noticing it so much right now is that my battery is dying of old age, so when the alt cuts off, the voltage is really dropping down low. Now to see if there is a way to eliminate the cutoff or at least raise the rpm of the cutoff to a more friendly number. I did a 100A load test and the battery dropped down to 7.9V. I guess it is time to go battery shopping. :mo money:

I do have the HD towing package. I never noticed this for the first 14 years (200K Miles) that I owned this truck. I never heard of an alternator cutoff, the voltage drop will reduce the spark voltage right when you need it most. I will do some more research into this. I know that there is an A/C cutoff on hard acceleration.

Her is a new one that I can not figure out. I have a 96 GMC K1500 P/U, pretty much loaded with all of the toys. Whenever the engine hits 4000 rpm the alternator shuts off. The voltage drops from the normal 14.2 down to 11.5 and all of the lights dim noticeably and the truck starts to run rough. As soon as the rpm drop back under 4K the voltage comes back, The voltage changes like you threw a switch, it does not come in and out gradually. This voltage drop is being measured on both the dash gauge and a separate digital voltmeter. It does not matter if I am driving or parked, it still does this right around 4K rpm. It has been doing this for a couple of years now. I have since replaced both the alternator and the battery (yes they were bad) but that had no effect on this problem. Any ideas??? As long as I stay under 4k the charging system is fine. Typically the only time I do hit 4K is when I pull out to pass a slowpoke on the highway and the trans downshifts.

Best rear end ratio is not always the lowest. Wen I had my last gmc P/U it had the 3.08 gears, It was so pathetic on the road and sucked gas because the engine never got up to the torque band. The gear ratio made it nice and quiet on the freeway because the engine was only turning 1800 rpm at 65mph. I ended up almost never using OD, I got better mileage and performance in 3rd gear. I traded it in for the same truck with the 3.42 gear and it got much better mileage and power to the pavement. I still have that truck now with a 1/4 million miles on it. A lot of people get worse mileage from the bigger engine because they tend to use the bigger engine. My truck with the 350 (5.7L) gets better gas mileage than my buddies identical truck but with the 305 (5.0L). We both have the 3.42 gears.

Every 3 dB doubles the sound pressure. A dB reading without listing which scale and the distance it is measured at, is meaningless but can look great on paper to someone that does not understand what they are looking at. I used to work for Prime Mfg that manufactured real train horns for real trains. The sound spec for a true train horn is 125 dBA at 100 yards. The Prime Mfg horns use 125psi at 20cfm. That is a lot of air. If you want to know how your horn compares, try doing a measurement at 20 yards, that is about as close as it will matter to a cage. Anything less than 20 yards and there is probably not enough reaction time left to matter. Most of the "train" horns sold on the internet while very loud, do not come close to a real train horn in volume. .

Now we just need a shipping address and info. I just ran into some cash last night that will go into my starter. I need to figure out how to get this thing apart, no I have not even looked in the service manual of even at the bike yet. Anything that does not move real often tends to get buried quickly. I have to dig my way down to the bike so that I can work on it. Thanks -
That is a real biggie right now. In 35 years and over a million miles driven with zero claims and zero citations, my insurance (car, house and bike) more than tripled overnight because of job problems pulling my credit score down. They have me in the highest risk category that there is. I drive a 16 year old vehicle with 250K miles, and pay the same as a 18 year old with multiple convictions for OWI driving a new Corvette, I have shopped around and they are all the same within $25/yr. They all know when they have you bent over. The worst thing is that it takes 7 years to get the negatives to fall of your credit report so they can keep soaking you for more cash that you can not afford. With the new insurance bill in WI, I will be getting another hefty rate increase real soon. [/Rant off]

I am still working on a way to get train horns on my bike. I have train horns on my P/U truck and they work wonders for tonsil inspections on pinheads. I have found all of the parts and figured out how to mount everything but the horn its self. Its a big hunk of horn to fit on a bike. For now I will have to limp along with my "wimpy" Bad Boy air horns.

In the description written by Squeeze it says that the gaskets will come with the new starter clutch. In your nitty-gritty you mention that I will have to get the gaskets and a crush washer. Are the gaskets and/or crush washer included or must I source them? This is the first mention of the crush washer that I have seen, which part is it? -
Hmmmm....... New seller with zero feedback.
