And it was 5 miles, uphill both ways with no cell phone. But then it was perfectly acceptable to bring the .22 rifle to school to get dinner on the way home. They are screaming bloody murder here for a lousy foot of snow. I think there nuts. I have a 20+ mile commute each way to work and have yet tot miss a day of work for any reason. Whats a snow day?

Back in my younger days I used to deliver pizza. The driver is typically paid very near minimum wage and relies on tips for his real income. That $3.50 goes to the pizza shop owner to cover his expenses of gas, insurance, vehicle costs, wages, etc. Even $2 is usually cheap. Think of it it terms of going to a restaurant, Most people tip 20% to someone that only has to take the order and then carry the food from the kitchen to your table. A waitress will spend maybe 5-6 minutes working for that tip where the driver has to drive from the store to your house and back to the store, seldom able to serve more than one or two customers at a time. Because I know how it works from the inside I usually tip a food delivery person 20-30%, but never less than $5, unless the driver was really late or drove up on the lawn or something. OK good Samaritan rant over.

I no longer what all works with what, but one other thing to look out for is that in an engine swap the state may get involved, In WI it is illegal to change to an engine other than what the vehicle came from the factory with. As far as a 305 vs a 350. I have a GMC K1500, 4x4, ext cab, 8' box with a 350, my buddy has the identical year make model and options except that he has the short box and the 305. I get better gas mileage than him, and can still blow him away in a race even with the extra weight that I am hauling. If you have the 350 now, stick with it, if you have the 305 now, you will need to do all of the research mentioned in the posts above to see if it is worth the extra effort and cost to upgrade.

Last night we got a light dusting of snow, 2-4 inches. Tomorrow all they will say is at LEAST 8 inches or MORE with 30+ wind for that nice snow sculpting called drifts, and then temps drop down into the single digits F, just to make sure that it aint goin anywhere fast. Gotta love winter in the north

MMMmmmmmmm....... I like blizzards. We have a nice blizzard coming tomorrow, 8-14 inches with 30+ wind. Oh you mean the DQ Blizzard......... I like those too, while watching the other kind.

I wish I had a garage. My scoot has to live in an 8 X 10 steel garden shed with all of the garden tools. That is also where I get to work on it. Back when I was into stock car racing and rented a garage, I heated it with a 250,000btu kero torpedo heater, the heater did not have to run very long to heat the 24 x 24 garage up. I had it rigged with a thermostat and kept the overhead door propped open with a chunk of 2x4 for ventilation. You are right though that it gets really nasty when solvents go thru the burner. I now have a tiny 30,000btu propane heater that I use to keep me warm outdoors. It did a good job of warming up my buddies garage when we had to thaw out some deer before we could butcher them.

At any place that serves food be it restaurant, bar or private, if it is a food that is ever cooked in beer, I always ask the question. I am violently allergic to the hops in beer to the point that a 12oz bottle could be fatal. As a teen trying my very first beer, halfway thru the bottle I was on my way to the emergency room unable to breath. One single brat or burger cooked in beer is enough make me very ill. I feel it is my responsibility to ask the questions and make appropriate choices. I have no problem with those that do cook with beer as long as they are honest about it. Fortunately, I am not allergic to alcohol, And baking with alcohol does not remove all of the proof rating. You just need to try my rum cookies that WILL give you a quick buzzzzzz.

I am hunting northern WI. I hunt up in Vilas county area 35. Vilas was Buck only this year so I had to jump over the state line and snag another buck in the UP, Then back closer to home to use up a bonus tag in area 69. But yes I agree that there are a lot less deer up there. I can see why after finding out how the DNR "counts" them. I used to see 20-30 deer per day, now just 1 or 2 per day. I have not yet heard any official kill numbers for the state.

Well I did my part to try to make the roads safer for all of us. I filled all 3 of my deer tags 3 total. How did everyone else do in the hunting season this year?

Wind chill only affects skin or other moist/wet surfaces, not thermometers. So whether you are stopped or going 100 mph a thermometer will read the same. The strip that you had, something like this? As far as measuring the pavement temp, while moving, you could use one of the IR thermometers with the sensor pointing down and the display mounted where you can see it. You can pick up inexpensive IR thermometers at many hobby shops that cater to radio control aircraft. Just remember that an overpass road surface can be a lot cooler than the road over solid ground and have a icy surprise waiting for you.

It is not hard to do. The nice thing is that if you put the diodes in backwards nothing bad will happen. Actually it is just that, nothing at all will happen. The resistor does not care which way it is installed. It is pretty easy, not dangerous to you, the bike or your budget, and less than $5 in parts. Go for it and we will help you through it.

I might just have to take you up on that. Of course It will come with some more of that dead deer sausage or....... But it can not be till I get my tax return back. I know that I can bum a trailer for the trip if it wont start or the weather is bad. Thanks for the offer. -
Oh well Right in the middle of one of the nicest weather fall seasons I can remember, my venture just decided that it is time to go to bed for the winter. Getting ready to leave work, in a dark empty secluded parking lot behind the plant I hit the start button and got a god awful clunk instead of a start. Tried the starter again and got another heavy clunk but at least this time it grabbed and started. whew. So I rode the 1 hour home all the while worrying and trying to figure out what was wrong with my baby. As soon as I got home I came on here and searched for starter clunk and low and behold was thread after thread describing my problem to a T. So now the scoot has gone night night for the winter, till spring when I can get to work on installing the new starter clutch And of course while I have it apart I need to look at the clutch to see why it has started slipping at full throttle. Maybe I'll have to round up some vittles for the grill and see if help shows up. Oh my poor baby.....

I just scored a genuine owners manual for my 88 venture, Yamaha p/n LIT-11626-06-07. I did learn a few small things that are good to know that I did not already figure out by riding this bike for the last 2-1/2 years. I am willing to scan it and post it for others to reference. BUT 1. It is 162 pages long so it will take me a while to put it all together. I have an old and very slow scanner and then I have to convert the scan files to either PDF or a word doc. 2. The file size will be huge and I am not sure if I can post that big of a file here. Is there someone that has the file space that can host it with a link on here to get to your site? Other options???? 3. I could scan it by section to have several smaller files. What do you all think. Or am I the only one that was so set on acquiring an owners manual?

We had a case here in the last week where two thugs robbed a guy of his wallet and other valuables. When they found his military ID in his wallet they came and gave everything back. So I guess that there is still some honor in thieves.

There are two different vaccines out for the N1H1. The injectable is made with dead viruses, you will not get N1H1 from it, But you will still feel like poo while your immune system is doing its thing. The inhaled version is made with LIVE viruses, I don't know what your chances of getting an infection from it are. As with any vaccine, while your immune system is busy fighting the dead bugs in the vaccine, it can miss some other bug that will still make you sick. I have not had so much as a cold in the last 30 years, I''l stick with what works for me. Eat lots of preservatives like Twinkies, and HoHos.

Stars??? I am so busy looking for eyeballs of the deer that have declared war on me, that there is not much time to look around let alone up. Next week starts the annual gun deer hunt in WI and I will be after them for sure. In just this week I had to make 2 panic stops, both on the bike, for deer that jumped out in front of me. Both of these deer were in areas that in 50 years I have never seen a deer, Right in the middle of the city. There after me I tell ya!!! This has been one of the warmest Novembers that I can remember. I have been getting in a lot of riding yet. I can keep riding till the first snow fall. Once there is snow on the ground I can not get to my scoot since it will get plowed in till all of the snow melts.

Last night I was at a meeting till 10:00pm. The meeting was held in a back room of a bar that is sometimes a "biker bar" Once I came out of the meeting and saw my poor old scoot, I was floored, it was vandalized. My nice burgundy venture was now covered with white stuff. I didn't even recognize it as mine at first. But since it was still 45 deg when I left the house, mine was the only bike there. All of the other wusses have already stored there bikes for the winter. Upon closer examination my poor old scoot was covered by about a 1/8 inch thick layer of................. ......................... frost. I had to bum an ice scraper to clear the windscreen to be able to drive home. It was Ma Nature that vandalized my ride. By the time I got home the temp had dropped to 31 degrees. I'm not sure what the wind chill is for 31 deg at 80-90 MPH. After the last couple of days I am convinced that Ma Nature is out to get me.
