  1. It might be hard to nail down a figure since they are still making 2nd gens. I would be curious to know all of those facts and figures on the 1st gens.
  2. There is also another drain plug if you really want to drain out more of the old oil. It is the bottom bolt on the rear left side cover (I forget its proper name off hand). That is why that one bolt has a copper washer on it for a gasket. The bolt hole is drilled through to the oil pan for the transmission. The little bit of oil that does come out will make a good mess and is really not worth the effort unless you had some other issue like gas or antifreeze in the oil. I think most of us are changing the oil long before it really NEEDs to be changed so a little bit of "old" oil left in is not an issue. I do not measure the oil I put in, I just fill to the center of the sight glass, take a quick 2 mile loop through the park, top it back off to the center of the glass. The remainder of that last quart gets burned in the lawnmower.
  3. At least they are still willing to try to work on it. I went in to the stealer to see about brakes and was told to get a new bike. Mine is unrepairable..... All it needed was pads. They will not even try to order parts for me. Good thing for being able to shop the internet and this site.
  4. Hopefully not while he is still in it.....
  5. Doesn't that depend on where the beer cart is parked...... Just sayin......
  6. This all sounds like way to much fun to miss again. I really need to get my camper sold to get the funds for the trip.
  7. I will try to get back there next Monday with camera in tow to see if it is back. This Restaurant hosts this car show every Monday during the summer.
  8. Didn't anyone ever tell you that you are really riding a purple bike?
  9. I work with a guy that is almost completely color blind. He is very close to seeing in black and white. He says that when it comes to lights he can tell if they are on or off, brightness matters, color does not. What is really scary is that he sees blaze orange as a very light gray, almost white. So a deer hunter that is blaze orange from head to toe is almost invisible to him against a snow background. He just looks for contrast. The camo orange is a lot more visible to him than solid orange because he will see the dark parts of the pattern moving against a white background and will see the orange parts against a dark background. I now hunt more than 100 miles from him but did change all of my orange to camo orange. Lights work the same for him, he is just looking for color contrast. To tell if you have color contrast in your choice of colors, use your digital camera set for black and white photos and take the picture, if the shades of gray are still contrasting in the b&w photo then they are contrasting colors. For instance yellow and orange are bright contrasting colors to a normal person but blend together for a colorblind person and will blend together in the b&w photo. Hope this helps.
  10. Since I now have Collector plates on my bike I decided to stop at a local car show last night since I was riding by. Lots of neat toys to look at. And won a free dinner in the raffle. Missed the $50 gas card by 1. There was a custom trike there that was made from the back half of a Pontiac Fiero GT and a motorcycle front end to make a trike out of it. Lots of custom fiberglass to bring it all together and then it was painted a burnt metallic orange. Sorry but I did not have my camera with me. At one point I noticed a group of people standing by my bike arguing, so I wandered over to see what was going on. Turns out they were arguing about what year Gold Wing I used as a base to build this custom bike that I had. They could not / would not believe that was a stock Yamaha, even with all of the Yamaha logos.
  11. Hmmmmmm...... Tough one....... Having my ride towed without me knowing about it.... Do you spank her or hug her or kiss her or ...........??????
  12. Now go home and measure that gallon to see if you actually got 1 gallon or did you leave some of your gallon that you paid for in the hose. All of the gas that is past the meter is yours, this includes the hose and some internal pump plumbing. To me it is not worth the hassle of trying to get a few extra drops of gas out of the hose. Even though those drops are technically and legally mine. I tried it once to see just how much I could squeeze out of the hose after the pump shut off, it was only about 3 oz into a measuring cup or 1400 yards of riding.
  13. It may even be that as some bikes get older that are not driven hard enough to "blow the carbon out" that the compression ratio actually does go up with age. My 88 pings terribly when under 3K RPM unless I have premium in it. I have never yet hit red line in the 3 years that I have had this bike. The one time that I got close to red line the front wheel came off the ground and scared me.
  14. This is a reminder that late May to early June is when the does are dropping there new batch of fawns. When a doe is ready to give birth she will drive last years fawns out of her territory. This is what spreads the gene pool. There are a lot of young deer wandering around looking for a new place to live. If they grew up in a part of the woods with no roads the were never taught how to cross the street. Be extra vigilant for deer in the dark. I am stocked up on ammo for the next deer season. I'll do my part to reduce the herd.
  15. WOW I've seen what a deer can to to a car. Glade that you and the bike will live with very minimal healing. The dent repair guys can do magic. A buddy just got a nice ghost flame job on his brand new hardly, got it hom from the painter and stuck it in the garage to wait for spring. He then immediately backed his F150 into the bike and dented the nice new flames on the fender, After the dent guy was done you could not tell that anything ever happened.
  16. OH! that brings back memories from I used to race........
  17. I would head down to the local library and look up the ordinance myself to see if the cop is just blowing smoke. I have had city officials try to enforce there own personal rules on me in the past.
  18. Where's the PICS?
  19. Here in WI there are over 600 BP gas stations. Not a single one is owned by BP. They are all mom and pop independent owners trying to feed their family's. By boycotting BP stations you are only hurting the station owner. BP will not sell one drop less gas due to you boycotting the BP stations. As Hig4s said, BPs gas will just be at some other station. As was explained to me by someone that works at a gas storage facility. There is a point in the system where all of the brands come together into one giant blend. The additives that differentiate the brands are added at the time the gas is transferred from the storage tank to the delivery truck. That is why boycotting the station will only hurt some local family and BP will not lose one penny in sales. You are still buying the same amount of gas and it could very well be BPs gas at that other branded station. I always watch the gas prices and buy from whomever has the lowest price. I still prefer to go to BP stations because I know they are locally owned and not corporate as many other brands are.
  20. After several hours of digging through the WI vehicle codes and a call to the inspectors that would be inspecting any "homemade" car, the only height requirement in WI is that if you took all of the rubber off of the rims and set the vehicle down on the rims, no part of the vehicle other than the rims would touch the ground. Their reasoning is that if you have a blowout and the tire disintegrates, a dragging chassis part would force a spin. What they do during an inspection is to sight across the bottoms of the rims to look for anything hanging down. So there is no magic number. Last night I found out that a bran new 2010 Honda car with dealer plates, tore the front air dam off on this speed bump. Speed was irrelevant since the air dam would be past the bump before the tires encountered the bump. $500+ in damages. Even though the bump is below the legal maximum height, I think it will be getting lowered now. My venture just scrapes on this speed bump, fortunately there is just enough room to squeeze around the edge of it. My truck could care less about any speed bump that a car can climb over. Thanks for the suggestions, it got me pointed in enough of the right direction to find what I needed.
  21. I really want to be the fly on the wall while he tries to convince the wife that she needs to shave her head.
  22. Does anyone know of a document that gives a minimum vehicle ground clearance that the manufacturers must meet. There are some local speed bumps that a lot of people (including me) drag bottom on, they claim that the speed bumps are less than the minimum legal vehicle height, I would like to find out what that dimension is. Preferably a document to reference.
  23. Looks like fun to play with if you have smooth hard floors. I'll wait a couple more years after the street version for the off road version.
  24. That is why I will drive my cage deep into the woods to escape from all of the loonies out there.
  25. Sounds good except for the shrimp cocktail part, I am allergic to seafood. There used to be a restarant locally hear that had a 42oz sirloin challange, I used to go there when I was poor and hungry till they refused to let me do the challenge any more. There is another pizza joint where I am still the only person to finish off their large deep dish pizza. 24" dia x 3" thick with a thin crust. I did not know till after it was done that I was the first, That was 30 years ago and I am still the only one. No way could I do that now. I'd have a heart attack if I were to even think about it. Ahhh..... the good old days.
