  1. Yup, it shows that you are getting old now.
  2. It does not mater where they are located for the wiring, just hook the second horn up in parallel with the first off of the relay. Make sure that all of the wiring and fuse can handle the amps for 2 horns.
  3. I'll bet that this gets it repaired real quick, as compared to your complaints about dangerous road repairs. Unfortunately sometimes it takes someone getting hurt to spur the government to action.
  4. I like this idea second best, The best idea is to watch the gauges a little closer.
  5. These type inserts do work very good, BUT; These type inserts will still require an M24x1.5p tap and a 22.5mm drill. You have now opened up the hole in the end of the fork to 24mm instead of the original 18mm. If you go this route look very close to see if you will have adequate wall thickness on the end of the fork. You would really hate to have the end of the fork break off when you put a lot of stress on it. The Heli-Coil will open up the hole in the fork with a 18.25mm (23/32 Dia.) drill and tap it to 20.1mm You are leaving more of the original metal for strength. I do not have a 2nd gen to look at so I do not know if this type insert is a good option or not, I am just bringing up the issues to look for. Helicoils do not fall out. If you are worried about that, just get a small bottle of zinc chromate primer (Small bottles can be had in the train dept of many hobby shops) and coat the helicoil with that and install it wet. The Zinc chromate primer will also keep the aluminum threads from oxidizing.
  6. Here is the thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13180
  7. Make sure you keep that thing away from your Cassette tapes.
  8. I hope you have more parts than what is in the pictures. There is a thread on here somewhere with lots of pics on installing that hitch. I also bought mine off of eBay and will have to fabricate the missing and/or damaged parts. The idiot that took mine off used a hacksaw instead of a wrench and said he thought that he was cutting the bike but really cut through the hitch.
  9. Details, details, who needs an address......... It looks like a go for me to make it there, You all have been warned. The only thing that will stop me now is bad weather, I hate riding in the rain. It might make a clean spot on my ride. I will be bringing a couple of packages of home made dead deer polish sausage to add into the festivities. Same recipe as I brought to WI MD last year. Looking forward to meeting some new folks.
  10. I hate to hear that, Hope Bobby heals quick and fully. I learned that lesson in my first year of having a drivers license. If you crash and there was no contact then you simply over controlled and crashed. You can then be cited for failure to maintain control. Ya gots to get a piece of the pinhead that is causing you to crash, It is hard to do that on 2 wheels, in the cage I can guaranty that I will get a piece of the bozo.
  11. That crack can only be repaired (correctly) if you have access to a TIG welder and a Milling machine. The condensed version of the repair; It would require grinding out the crack, welding it closed along with welding the drain hole closed and then re machining the flat sealing surface and new threads. Unless you have access to this technology, you are going the right route by replacing it with a used pan. It would cost more to have the repair done in a shop.
  12. Well if speed is going to be of the essence, I'll bring my favorite BFH.
  13. Bubber, I would be very interested in getting involved with your vent since that is on my wish list. The only thing I may need done is to grease the rear pins, Only because I didn't know they were there the last time I had the rear wheel off. And as long as the rear wheel will be off it might be a good time for rear brake pads. I have one of the special head wrenches that I can bring if requested. If anyone is doing a 1st gen HID I will bring some items that will be needed, I don't believe that the 2nd gen needs these extras. I can bring some soldering equipment to repair the assorted PCB issues. Just let me know what all is needed I'm willing to pack as much as I can carry on the bike. I may not have all of the technical expertise but I did stay at a Motel 6 once. I am looking forward to meeting some of you, even though you may regret having to meet me.
  14. Those "I TOLD YOU SOs" while fun at the moment and so very hard to resist, have a way of coming full circle to bite you in the a$$. Just give her a chance, I have faith.
  15. Wheew, The title had me worried...... But this is all good. Have fun at DQ.
  16. That's a guilty looking mug if I ever saw one....
  17. Is it using that 4 letter word "already" or would it be "still"???
  18. Like you mentioned the ends of the cracks and some other hairline cracks are still there and not glued. So you have weak spots just looking for a bump in the road to get the crack growing again. Once you get everything glued with the ABS cement that you can, I would still rough up the inside with some coarse sandpaper and lay down some epoxy and heavy fiberglass cloth (you can use several layers of lighter cloth if that's all you have). I would use strips 2 inches wide. Coat the area with the epoxy then lay the cloth onto the epoxy and work it into the epoxy till the cloth is thoroughly saturated, you may need to add more epoxy. Remember the epoxy does not add any strength, it just holds down the glass cloth, the cloth is what adds the strength, so make sure that the cloth is worked down good to be in contact with the bag. I usually use a squeegee as the final thing to make sure the cloth is down good and smooth with no air bubbles underneath. Once you get the glass and epoxy layered up then you can paint the inside if the look of the glass cloth bothers you. Note; You can cleanup any epoxy fingerprints or or other mess with alcohol before the epoxy has cured. NO NOT brandy. The brandy is for after the glassing to keep you company while you watch the glue dry.
  19. I am at 9 grand kids and holding, the youngest grand kid is now 15, the oldest grand kid at 24 with 2 of her own. I remember the birth of each of them like it was yesterday. Oh wait, that makes me really old......... a great gampa, twice over,,,,,,,, Dang I should have shut up while I was ahead.... Congrats to all on the new future riders.
  20. Sounds like you have a good crop of orange barrels growing toooo.
  21. I know that women like to tell their man where to go, but to throw away the GPS???????
  22. I am pretty sure that I will be available that day. It even looks like there are some interesting roads just to the west of you for a ride. I'll have to see if I can get everything patched up on my bike by then.
  23. I use the other method. I wash the bike just once a year whether it needs it or not......... Is it always the same 2 cylinders that are not running? Will warming it up dry it out and make it run better?
  24. Are you sure that this is not the 3rd gen Yamaha..... Oh wait, If it was a Yamaha it would be advertising a cassette deck. Never mind.
  25. But then if you are looking to unload that backrest for an '88, (or even just the brackets that are different) let me know. I know just the place to put it/them.
