Wisconsin maintanence day is ON-July 31st in Sauk City

I guess that most of the 2nd gens weren't fast enough to get there before they had to head back. There were a bunch of us that noticed that the 1st gens outnumbered the 2nd gens. -
Uhaul does rent a motorcycle specific trailer. Will your RSV fit on that?

Does the stock bulb still work on the bike? Did you unplug and replug all connections to be sure they are tight? Are you sure that you have a good ground for the controller? Did you keep the bulb clean and free of fingerprints and/or oil, dirt? That is what I can think of off the top of my head.

Researve lighting unit
Flyinfool replied to Flyinfool's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My RLU is already disconnected, It must be disconnected to install the HID, I just need the connector to be able to add a custom control for the headlight. All of the wires that I need to tap into are at the RLU connector. I would rather not butcher up the stock wire harness on the bike, or chop up a good RLU. That is why I am looking for a bad one. Just to cut it apart for the connector with its short wire harness, and my curiosity as to what is inside it. -
Does anyone have a bad Reserve Lighting Unit laying around for an 88 Venture? It is my understanding that the MKI and MKII are different. At least the connector is different. My request is 2 fold. 1. I want to see what is inside of that box to see if it can be modified to suit my needs before I destroy my good one. 2. If it can not be disassembled and modified then I can use the wire harness and connector to make my own unit that will do what I need. Next question; Has anyone identified the connector on the RLU so I could just buy that. I just hate to butcher a perfectly good RLU if I don't have to.

Steve Thanks for hosting a great day. I met a bunch of new people, terrorized some. I just made it home at 11:30, I nice uneventful ride other than having to stop 3 times to clean the dead critters off the windshield. Never saw a deer the whole trip, just the hundreds of critters that committed suicide on the front of my bike. I did get to make an obnoxious HD feel bad. Tom, I also had a set of 1st gen brake pads with me. I was going to put them on but got to busy helping others. The ones that I was going to pull are still about 50% Would have been better than metal on metal. and still given you full stopping power for the ride home. -

Halogen Brake Light Bulb Replacement for RSV?
Flyinfool replied to First_N_Last's topic in Watering Hole
I agree that chrome is more reflective than white paint. BUT With the chrome being so reflective, the light that hits at an angle will reflect off at the same angle and you may get more light to the sides, top, and bottom. If you paint it flat white it will scatter the light that hits it more and you may actually get more light to the rear, and a little less to the sides, top, and bottom. Just thinking out loud via the keyboard -

Bike is all packed except for the cold stuff. I'll be heading out around 7am. I did not still have the extra set of gaskets that I thought I did. -
It has been hot enough here that Lake Michigan is at a record high temp, and we still have August to go.

But are you really ahead? If you paid less than $1000 for the warranty then you are ahead by the difference, if you paid more than $1000 for the warranty then the warranty is still in the black on your deal.

Maybe in the metric conversions..........

A coworker has an extended waranty on his Chevy Tahoe. He has an intermittent no start caused by an intermittent fuel pump on its way out. The warranty will not cover it because "it still works sometimes". He had to cough up the $500 out of his own pocket. You are better off taking the money that you would have spent for the warranty and buy a CD at the bank. Even at current interest rates. Buying the warranty is betting that you will have at least 2, major, covered, problems during the warranty period. Yes there are a few people that are lucky (or is it unlucky) that the warranty has paid off for them, but that is a very small number. You have to remember that they do not make money selling you a warranty for what the think you might need in repairs. They take the average cost of covered repairs and at least double it to get your rate. I keep saying "covered repairs" because they do not cover a lot of things.

I have not even started packing yet. I had to ride the bike to work, the rules at work are, do not bring anything with you that would still like to own at the end of the day. Do not lock doors or trunks to force some punk kid (I am being as PG rated as possible here) to break in to find out that there is nothing to steal. When the kids go thru the lot they will leave every car door open. If your car was locked then you will have a broken window and your door left open. They leave when they have as much as they can carry or someone notices them and comes running out of the building to yell at them. I'm still hoping that my parts show up today. I am planning to leave Milwaukee around 7:00 or 8:00 Sat morning. Still undecided on the route that I will take. If it looks like rain then I will take the fastest route, I94, if it nice then I may take the back roads. At least there is a DQ AND a Culvers, just 3 blocks away. I wonder if either of them have an ice-cream shuttle?????? -

I do have a spare middle gear gasket and crush washer that I can bring if needed. Just send me some replacements when you get back home. -
Just request the pills in a .22cal. Then you can take a 22LR and pull the bullet out, press in the pill, and then you can safely administer the pill from an appropriate distance. Getting the pill into the cat, was the goal, right.

You can print this out and tell the judge that you have a real offer of $50 for it. Just trying to help..... Good luck, been their, done that, didn't even get the T-shirt.

Loctite and plastic together are a big nono. Loctite will cause plastic to first melt and then become weak and brittle once it finally rehardens. Most people use a lot more than necessary.

Ah Crap Now the starter clutch

It is REALLY on there tight, you will need a good puller. -
There are even some that use WD40 as an attractant on fishing lures. Never tried it myself. I do not like what WD40 leaves behind so I do not even own a can of the stuff.

From the very first time that Mine made that noise I stopped running it. If/when the parts start to break off of the old clutch you will have small chunks of metal floating around inside of the engine just looking for a new home. Like maybe in the gears of the tranny. Mine made that noise just once and there were cracks int the metal parts. I put in the Dano mod last winter and have had no issues at all this season, nor do I expect any. FWIW I also balanced the flywheel before I put it back on, the factory balance was very close but I got it just a bit closer and there was noticeably less vibration.
