pulled over for going through red light last night
Flyinfool replied to saddlebum's topic in Watering Hole
I want one to play with........but at $900 each.:mo money:Maybe not right now. Here is the one that I use on my bike that seems to get the job done. http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BY0X08-N52&cat=168 It is "only" 169 lbs of pull. I mounted it wit some double sided tape to the center stand. Between its own pull and the tape, I don't think I could get it off if I wanted to. It almost became a permanent addition to my kitchen decor. It can destroy a CRT monitor from 3 feet away (yes I still use those old things), so be careful where you put it in the house. It is also strong enough to smash a finger if you are not careful. Just give it a good coat of paint so it does not rust. Yes I have found a nail stuck to it that was probably destined for my back tire. The cow magnets are AlNiCo and have no where near the power per $ or power per cubic inch as the N52 Neodymium magnets. -
A greased ball will wear out faster than a dry one. Think about this, What is grinding compound? Grinding compound is an abrasive (dirt) mixed with grease. The grease being sticky will collect and hold any dirt kicked up by the bike tires and that dirt mixed with the grease makes an effective grinding compound. I use a dry Teflon lube on all of my balls and couplers. It does not get onto clothing once it is dry. (takes about 5 minutes to dry) It does not hold any dust or dirt once dry. It prevents squeaks. It is waterproof so it will not wash off in the rain. As a bonus I use it on the actions of all of my hunting guns. The lube that I use is Remington Rem-DriLube. Any dry Teflon based aerosol lube will work the same.

Tank cover popping up on 1st gen help
Flyinfool replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
just drive 89. See I did not tell you to follow the speed limit. Mine has never popped open. Check to be sure that the latch is not broken or bent. If closed correctly it should not open. -
You do not have to have a separate switch. I do not have a separate switch, yet. This winter I plan to build an electronic module that will turn the headlight on once the engine is running. Why should I do a simple switch when I can make a nice complicated module.

I have a long commute to work. When I am on the bike I see the same riders at about the same place every day. Most of us no longer wave, just make eye contact and a nod. Other than my commute to work, I wave at anything on 2 wheels, other than a cage. What I have noticed is that the majority of the non-wavers are those with no helmet. I always ware a helmet. I do not know if that is coincidence or not. But the helmet seems to make more of a difference than the brand or type of bike. just my

I have been reading a lot of post of people getting HID. I have the HID from HID Country installed on my bike and I love it. I was looking around on the HID Country web site and noticed that they offer quantity discounts. If we can get 20 orders together, the same setup that is on my bike will run $34 plus shipping. We can mix and match kits, so you can get whatever color or bulb style you need/want, or even get HID for your cage. Is anyone interested?

Miller and Lincoln are the two top names in welding, and it is for a reason. I used to be a certified welder many many moons ago. When I was looking for a welder for my home use I tried a couple of the flux core welders, I did not like them at all. I ended up getting a HTP welder, Not as big of a name as Miller or Lincoln but it is every bit as good. I have been using my HTP for 20 years and have not had to replace anything but the consumables. I sold my stick welder just as soon as I got the MIG home. What ever brand you get, gas is the way to go.

Researve lighting unit
Flyinfool replied to Flyinfool's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Garys info will get you thru the CMU mods to make the warning go away, The HID will still function correctly without the CMU mods, you just have to look at the headlight warning all of the time. The reserve lighting Mod MUST be done or you will destroy your HID bulb. I did a thread on what all I had to do for my HID Install here; http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45603 It is not nearly as bad as it sounds, I was posting as I went along and a lot of it was before I had figured out exactly what I had to do. Now that I have had the HID all summer, I'll never go back to incandescent. -
Black Fin Soup??....
Flyinfool replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I also prefer the polished fin over the diamond cut look. I agree that you might be easier off to just paint and then polish the edges. -

CD or HD magnets are way to small to make a difference. -
You betcha I have thousands of RC friends there to BS with. That does take some time. I am also the prez of the heli club that puts on one killer party on Friday night featuring my world famous RumBalls. This party is not recommended to anyone that has to drive any farther than a few feet to their tent/RV. There will be a major fireworks display with helies flying at night thru the fireworks, on Saturday night, you have to see it to believe it. Every day there is heli flying from ~6am till ~3am. That's not a typo. I'll sleep when I get home Sunday night. Besides I do not know if the VR group is really ready for me yet. I am kind of quiet till I get some rum in me. Maybe next year if I can get a trailer built (or beg, borrow or steal one) by MD I'll head down to OH. Then you'll be sorry.

I was just wondering if I am the the only RC Heli nut on this site. IRCHA is the International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association. This is a HUGE event held in Muncie Indiana at the AMA grounds, 5161 E. Memorial Dr., Muncie, IN, 47302. It is the Biggest radio controlled event in the world. Last year there was over 900 pilots (more expected this year) and vendor row was almost a half mile long. The things that some of these guys (and gals) can make a heli do are simply amazing, you would swear that they are breaking at least a few laws of physics. I will be there from Aug 11 - 15, You can find me in the SWARM tent. It might make for an interesting day trip if you are in the area. Hope to meet someone from VR there.

crusing RPM's
Flyinfool replied to RWITT's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 88 is about the same. It likes that RPM. When cruising at 55-60 I am in 4th gear to keep it at around that 4000 RPM mark. Around town at low speeds I keep it around 3000rpm just to keep the noise down. if I'm in heavy traffic then I stay near the 4000 so that I have some better throttle response if needed to escape a cage. Hope that helps. -
If you are spending that much time polishing, then it should be obvious that you are not spending enough time out searching for new ice cream stands.

When the system is slower than doo in winter, is there a lot of hard drive access happening or is it just sitting like a lump o doo? There is malware out there that will walk right past AVG and most other protection. What you are describing sounds exactly like what I had when I got some bugs from the company network. It took a couple of weeks to get mine cleaned up. There was one scan that took ~32 hours to run. It was very thorough but it found the offending malware not only on my computer but also on the other computers out on the network that were the cause of the problems. It was only with the help of the gurus at www.bleepingcomputeres.com that I was able to avoid a reformat. These guys had me into deep dark places of the puter, that I never even heard of, to clean out all of the bugs. It is a possibility that you are infected, or it could be a hardware issue.

Flyinfool replied to saddlebum's topic in Watering Hole
I also put a very powerful rare earth magnet on the bottom of my bike and have not been stopped by a red light since. You have to research your local laws on running a red light with a MC. Every state here has a slightly different version of the red light law for MC. -
That is what I did to mine as well. You have to very thoroughly clean the oil off of the wires. The wires are cloth covered and you have to get all of the oil out of the cloth. Nothing sticks to oil. I used brake cleaner to flush all of the oil out of the cloth insulation on the wires, both sides of the grommet. Let it dry completely. Put on a liberal coat of the black RTV and work it into the cloth of the wires, both sides. Let it dry 24 hours before reassembly.

Now my question is, Would it work to just drive over stupid cagers and call them a speed bump?

I do not think that they really have any serious plan to move, they are just after some of the free money that the state keeps dishing out every time a big employer threatens to move. That and trying to get there hands a little deeper into their employees pockets. This comes up every time it gets close with union negotiations.

If HF does not want the old parts back, don't toss out the old stuff. The hubs and bearings should still be fine as spares. It is the axle that is bad and the worn out tires. There are some people on here that have the ability to fix the axle and I would get that done, it might make for a good spare part for someone in need. When you get the new axle, get out your straight edges and check it right away. The new one could be just as bad as the old one. You may need to end up using your repaired old axle for your upcoming trip.
