  1. Nope, weekend is coming......... Just a restock and reload.............
  2. Hey there Mr Puckster. In your vid you were all cornfused by the cmHg on your gauges. cm is for centimeters, and Hg is the chemical symbol for Mercury. So your gauges are reading the vacuum in centimeters of Mercury. Now don't say I never learned ya nuttin.
  3. This one was on the local news last night. The biker was given a traffic citation for failure to stay in his lane. He did cross the line into the cars lane while he was taking a swing at the car.
  4. At 844 lbs, it is only 25 lbs lighter than my Venture. That does not solve my issue of pushing it backwards up a grass hill with only 1 "good" ankle supplying the drive. I am looking to get under 650lbs wet with all of my standard junk I haul around. Today is 60 and sunny, I thought about taking the bike to work but I am afraid to try to move it by myself. The last time did not end well and I am less capable now.
  5. Why not??? As long as you have at least 2 gauges you can do a proper sync, having 4 gauges does make it a LOT easier. It does not matter if the gauge is a dial or a bar that slides up and down or a liquid that goes up and down, they are all still vacuum gauges.
  6. Dang it................................... Ya just had to put that where I could see it............................
  7. Reading the comments on that page, It sounds like very close to 100% are happy to see the biker "get his". I would really like to know more about what led up to this incident. All I found was one post that said someone in the car tossed something at the bike and caused damage to the bike. The bike rider said he was just trying to get the car to stop and exchange info. Of course the biker never did say what led up to someone in the car throwing something at the biker. When 2 not to bright individuals get together on the road it will never end well. I am sure that there is a LOT more to this story. There has to be, that some one saw it coming enough to pull out a cell phone and start to shoot video, this was brewing for a while and the camera operator saw it coming for a while. That was not a dash cam, it was a hand held camera. I am not taking either side yet, until I learn more. When the biker stuck his arm straight out toward the car, was there something in his hand? Did the biker actually hit the car mirror? Cant tell in the vid. Mirror smashing seems to be a popular pastime with some bikers.
  8. I could use some warm weather, But when it come to @cowpuc favorite Wisconsin machine, I am addicted, If you keep putting the raw ingredients (Water and cold air) in front of me, I just have to make use of them. Well Lake Michigan is a pretty big puddle so I don't think it will go away anytime soon. If you folks down south will open your doors wider than what @saddlebum can, then I am sure that you can help everyone else put me out of there misery.........
  9. I may have to make me a set of those scope mounts and slap a scope on mine to see just what it can do. Mine does not like the subsonic rounds, I have tried them. Now the Eley 22 Long Rifle Pistol Ammo it really likes which is just a tad faster than the subs but real expensive. I wonder if mine does better with the full LR rounds because of the longer barrel length and the barrel being a heavy target barrel. But then for some reason my gun really hates the Remington 22LR ammo. lots of jams, misfires and no accuracy.
  10. I have been reloading for nearly 30 years now, I also use the RCBS Rock Chucker for everything. I load both pistol and rifle in many calibers. I also no longer shoot nearly as often as I used to. But I still have fun reloading and working on optimizing a load for a specific gun. My favorite load is for the FF600SNOW. It has a range that will just reach about a 3 miles more than the big pond is wide. I think it is @cowpucs favorite too. He keeps telling me to let er rip..............
  11. That weighs very nearly as much as a Venture, by the time I add all the luggage it may weigh the same. Total weight is my issue that I need to change. Center of gravity seat height and posture of my 1st gen are all fine. It is just the total weight to push out of the shed and over a bump and up a grass hill. Backing the venture into the shed will not work, I tried it.
  12. The cruiser position is not for me, but then I am to old to be in the crotch rocket position either. The Concours was to much of a folded up of a position like a crotch rocket for me. The FJR may very well be also. I like the straight up sitting position with my feet under me as long as I can also mount highway pegs for another position for my feet while doing "long distance" rides. Now coming from a card carrying member of the Marshmallow Butt Society, to me a long distance ride is 100 miles in 24 hours, a forever ride is 400 miles in 24 hours. I am built a bit differently than most folks. (OK maybe not just my build is a bit different:whistling:) I am 6'1" but only have a 30" inseam, so I have a long torso and short limbs. Makes it interesting to find anything to fit right.
  13. Connecting the solenoid backwards will make it not work, it will also make my workaround not work. 4 ohms will not do it, You need around 2,000 ohms otherly known as 2K ohm resistors. You want 1/4 Watt or more for the size of the resistors. One end connects to the white/red wire that went to the probe and the other end of the resistor can be connected to any thing that turns off with the key. If you are going to stick the resistor lead into a fuse socket make sure it is on the protected side of the fuse. No, not all fuses are hot only with the key some are hot all the time and some are only hot in ACCy position. Once the cover is off of the MC you can usually grab the remains of the screw with a vice grip and turn it out, unless you drilled the head off and still kept going. When you drill for the easy out, use a left hand drill bit, odds are that the act of drilling with a left hand bit usually makes the screw come flying out of the hole on its own.
  14. Holding the bike up with the top heaviness is not the issue. My issue is pushing the bike out of the shed and up a grass hill. The FJR is about 200 lbs lighter than a 1st gen and it has wider tires so that it will sink into the ground less, so I think/hope that will be enough. It is also a few inches shorter in length so it will fit better in the garden shed where it must live. I am not dead set on the FJR, but I really like the way it looks, so that is where I am starting, I may hate it as soon as I sit on it, it only took me less than 2 miles to determine that I do not like the Kaw Concours. I am still a long way from adding any more wheels. I doubt that I will ever go three wheels. I'll more likely go to a small convertible when that time comes.
  15. There is such a food, Iceberg lettuce, you can eat as much as you want and you will loose weight right up to the point where you die of malnutrition. Sometimes it does not take much to get moving in the right direction. If you are maintaining a weight that is to high, any slight reduction of intake will start a downward move. Diets that you dive into and make drastic sudden changes are doomed to fail. For instance, at the lunch line at work I always took the biggest piece of pie or cake and everything else they had to offer, now I take the smallest. It is only maybe 2 bites difference, but it has started my weight heading in the right direction. I am still eating exactly the same things, just a tiny bit less. Also turning the thermostat down 1 degree a month until it is 5 degrees lower will not be noticed by you or anyone in the household, But it will force your body to burn more calories even while in couch potato mode just to maintain body temperature. It also has the benefit of saving on the heating bill, but adds to the cooling bill. Here in the north it works out since we heat for a lot more of the year than we cool. Making small changes like this will not loose weight fast, but as long as it is heading in the right direction it is good. My doc is very pleased to see me loosing 5-10 lbs a year, most people my age are gaining a few lbs per year. We are also thinking seriously about getting another dog. We really do miss having a dog around. Not only will the dog be more than happy to finish off those last couple of bites on my plate that I am only eating because they are there (I am a founding member of the CPS (Clean Plate Society)). A dog will also make sure that you go for a walk every day, play catch or other games many times a day, lots of tug of war etc. The dog will not allow you to forget or skip any of this good exercise.
  16. When You have a bunch of issues it is always best to pick one and solve it them move on to the next one, If you try to fix them all at once you will just end up running in circles and make yourself crazy. If the issues happen to be related then fixing the one may also fix others. I would start with the cranking issue, partly because it is easy and partly because It is hard to test anything else if it wont even crank. Make sure the battery stays charged thru all of this, It does not take a lot of cranking to drain the battery. Get out your volt meter. set it on the range closest to 12V. Connect the red lead to the battery positive post, connect the black lead to the positive wire on the starter. try to start it. The meter should read very close to 0 volts while it is cranking. anything over 1 volt means that there is a bad connection between the starter and the battery. You can move the meter leads to test each connection point. Even if they look clean, clean them anyhow. it does not take much to make a bad connection. If the positive side looks good. then do the same on the negative side, start with one meter lead on the starter motor case and the other on the negative battery post. IF the solenoid is not engaging to crank the engine the connect a jumper from the terminal with the small wire on the solenoid to battery negative. this should engage the solenoid if it does not then we have a completely different direction to head. If at any time thru the testing, if it should start and run, put the volt meter across the battery terminals, if the charging circuit is working correctly it should be real close to 14V
  17. Yes it is easy to extract the ethanol with water. BUT. What none of these people realize or mention is that by removing the ethanol you are also lowering the octane rating of the gas. Straight ethanol has approximately the equivalent of 100 octane. the oil companies use the ethanol as one of the ingredients to rise the octane to the desired level. So if you are going to a separation you would be best off starting with a higher octane gas. You do not want your octane to get to low and pop a hole in the top of a piston. I am to lazy to do the math right now to determine what starting octane you need.
  18. I looked at my Ruger and it does have Mark II stamped on it.
  19. I certainly will not buy something that I can not ride first, I have ridden a few that there is no way I want to do more than 50 miles on. I have not taken an FJR out for a spin yet. I do only have a 30 inseam to work with so a high seat will not be good. With my bad ankles I NEED to be able to flat foot it. that is a big part of the reason I am getting out of the Venture. I do want something that will still be able to pull my 300-350 lb trailer. In defense of some, some may be to old to even see the fine print.
  20. Well I have finally decided that the time has come to let go of my Venture. It has served me very well for the last 10 years. But it is time. I also just got the the notice in my email that my membership here is about to expire. I will be posting it up for sale as soon as I am done bringing it out of winter storage. So if anyone is looking for a nice 1st gen........ I will be shopping for something a bit lighter in weight. I have been looking at '07+ FJR1300s. I already joined a couple of forums for the FJR. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . You did not think you were going to get rid of me that easy, I also just paid up for another year. Who else would you be able to pick on and complain about the SNOW!!!
  21. Now I have to look at mine tonight to see if it actually says Mark 2 on it.
  22. So you need to get a sandbox so that you can sit outside with sand between your toes????? Just keep the cats out........
  23. I found a couple of European websites that say there is about a half of a liter in the hose and filter. So the first 17 oz of your purchase is whatever the last person got. This is IF it is a single hose pump. Most of the stations that I have found that have pure premium have it on a stand alone pump so the last person got the same thing you are after. An interesting tidbit that I ran into last night. I was working on my truck and had the reader hooked up to the OBDII port, while scanning thru looking for the parameter that I needed I ran across one for ethanol content of the fuel. My truck is a FlexFuel so it has to be able to measure the ethanol content so that it knows how much fuel to dump in. All of the pumps around here have a sticker stating "UP TO 10% ethanol added". My truck is measuring the fuel that was in it at 15.1% ethanol. That could explain my recent drop in MPG. Just another way for the oil companies to cheat us out of a bit more cash. I will try some different brands over the next few fills and see if it stays the same.... My bike will not be happy about the extra ethanol.
  24. Before you bother to do a sync, get that #2 carb fixed. Dripping gas above a hot exhaust pipe could get real interesting.
