  1. I have trained many full size pilots to fly RC. one even made the comment "I am a captain on a 747 so I am sure I can handle one of these toys" It was fun to watch:rotf: and I did eventually teach him how to fly his second RC model. I do also have a PPL so I do know the challenges. I'm thinking it will be a riot, especially as the weights get higher and some of the aircraft start to surpass there limits. The event is structured that the teams have to submit a written and oral report predicting what their max weight will be and describing all of their design and construction data. The report is 1/3 of the score. So it is not just who carries the most weight which is also 1/3 of the score but who is closest to their design limits which is the last 1/3 of the score.
  2. It is OK to make an airplane out of it, you just can not tow it with an airplane....... I believe that the tires are rated for around 1000lbs each at MAX pressure. As with any tire, You only need MAX pressure for a MAX load. So it is perfectly safe to run less pressure for a light load. Since I will have to stop for gas every 120 miles the trailer tires and bearings will get checked often. The HF one I just bought is rated 875lbs GVW, it came with a 2 leaf spring that I have already removed one leaf. I am also planning to flip the axle to the top of the spring to lower the center of gravity to make it less likely to flip in a hard corner or a pothole. We have a good bumper crop of potholes going this year. Once I get the trailer built I will check to make sure that flipping the axle is not going to cause any clearance issues. This will be my first experience pulling a trailer with a bike and I will admit that I do have some reservations about it. My biggest concern is emergency stopping. Once I test pull the trailer with some weight in it, I will decide if I am adding electric brakes to help out in the event of a panic stop.
  3. She is not a trained killer, it came naturally. And she is no longer sweet or little. Ok, I guess she is still sweet...... For some reason she is very camera shy. I got out my camera to take a pic of her to post and she about turned inside out and dove under a table till the camera was put away. If I even reach for the camera she is back under the table in a flash. She even out ran the flash on the camera...... Once her leg heals up I know how to sucker her into posing for the camera. She is easily distracted with certain toys, but no running or playing till the leg heals. This house was broken into once many years ago when I first moved in. I rebuilt the doors to where there have been 3 break-in attempts since, including this one. None achieved entry, not even the one with the crow bar and sledge hammer. So far 2 of the 3 have been arrested and successfully prosecuted, and restitution paid. I just need a little more time on this one.....
  4. I never asked if there was a weather contingency plan. I have flown in some pretty nasty weather.
  5. While I'm not a postal worker, I have been voted most likely to go postal by my co-workers. At every place I have ever worked at.
  6. I don't have as much experience flying RC as some. I still consider myself a rookie. I've only been in the fool aircraft modeling hobby for the last 45 years, RC for the last 40. Video will be someone else job, I have seen the plane and I think I will have my hands full controlling it. I just hope it is NOT some fool heat wave like in the 60s or even higher. I'll melt.
  7. Well it is official that I will be in Fort Worth TX from March 18 to 20. Airline tickets are bought and room is booked. I was volunteered/railroaded into helping a group of "kids" at Marquette University with their engineering competition. The task is to design a radio control aircraft to carry as much weight as possible within the design limitations. The rules do allow them to bring in an experienced pilot to fly the aircraft for safety reasons. That would be where I come in. I guess they do not want barly flyable 50lb aircraft wandering around out of control. This sounds like fun. I just do not know if I can keep up with these college seniors all night after the official stuff is over..... I think this could be fun.
  8. How long does the PO hold mail that can not be delivered due to snow, and then what do they do with it? Hmmmmmm........ I never get anything good in the mail, just bills. If I stop shoveling snow does that mean that I will not get bills anymore?? Just a thought here..........
  9. NOOOooo Water just drives the blood (or any stain) deeper into the carpet. I use only very low moisture cleaning systems and it gets out almost anything. Cleaning the carpet was the easiest part of this. Fixing the window will just be a PITA. Fixing the dog will be the hardest part. Yup she got some more ice cream again today.
  10. WOW, I went through all of my stuff and I have no pics of her. I'll have to work on that.
  11. It's just, just, just, No one like us any more.........
  12. I'm supposedly in. It shows 4 people, But it is like no one sees me.
  13. I have a monster Springer, She is 80lbs of muscle wound up in a hunting machine, and stands 25 inches at the shoulder. Breed standard for a female Springer is 45 lbs and 16 inches at the shoulder. I weigh 260 and when I am laying down in the back yard she can drag me around. She really enjoyed her ice cream tonight, garnished with some dead deer summer sausage. I changed the bandages and everything looks good.
  14. Well she is not for sale. At least the/MY dog ain't. Would you believe me if I said that the dog does not like steak or bones............ I didn't think so...... I have thought about some classes, mostly for the GF as she has almost zero control over the dog, and the problem is not the dog needing the training. Dang, windows are expensive these days. It was so close, There was a big piece of broken glass right above the hole, basically the top half of a 4 foot square pane, that fell like a guillotine as soon as I touched it to clean up the mess. She will get one of her favorite treats, a big bowl of ice cream. Yes she could be a Venture Rider. CaptainJoe Wisconsin is one of the 2 states that does not allow CC, so that is not an option, YET.
  15. Do you put a tow bar on that to pull it behind the bike when you travel?
  16. I got a call at work from my GF that she needs help with the dog. The dog wen thru the front window and got cut up and is bleeding all over the place. So I leave work and beat feet home, made the 45 minute drive in 30. The dog has several lacerations to her front leg and there is a hole in the front window. It turns out that some strange guy was trying to break in the front door and the dog was going ballistic trying to get him to stop. She was in full blown protect mode of the GF and house. The guy beat feet as soon as the front window broke and the dogs head came out, about 3 feet from the door. Fortunately the dogs injuries are not bad. Once I got all of the hair trimmed away from the cuts I decided that there was no serious internal damage and it was just some shallow cuts in the skin so there was no vet bill to deal with. I'll check it again when I get back home from work to be sure but am not expecting any issues. So is she a good dog for chasing away the bad guy and protecting the GF, or a bad dog for going thru the window and bleeding all over the living room carpet???? On the bright side, I am a design engineer for a place that makes commercial carpet cleaning equipment, so I have access to the latest and greatest technology in carpet cleaning, blood is not an issue to get out of off white carpet (don't ask how I know this:whistling:). AAAArrrrrggggg........ I really had plans other than cleaning the carpet tonight.
  17. OK it took me a while to find it. Here is what you need to do to use an electronic flasher AND still have your self canceling. Get rid of the band-aid load resistors that negate any amperage savings from the LEDs. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=498784&postcount=3 The electronic flashers have only a maximum amperage rating, and will flash at the same speed regardless of how few, how many (within the max amp limit), or what type or combination of bulbs you have.
  18. Yup, it may have nothing to do with your computer. There are spamers that will pick an email addy from a free email site like hotmail or yahoo and have their computer just keep trying passwords till they get into your account. They then can send emails to their hearts content. People are more likely to open them since it was actually sent from your account to people that you know. The only thing you can do is to change your password to a strong one that is completely different from the one you had.
  19. I thought there was a thread on here somewhere on how to install the new flasher that will work correctly with LEDs, and still keep the self canceling??? There were 3 relays involved and a wiring diagram for the fix.
  20. I do not know about titles in MO, But I went through that drill here in WI on a lost vehicle title, It took over a year of running in circles. The last time it had been registered was 10 years ago, title was issued to a person that had passed away, and the persons that handled his affairs had all also since passed, and were all from IL. The dealer that I bought from had the title at one point but lost it. I would at least make a call to the seller for the VIN and then call the state to see what the status of the title is, and what would be involved in you getting a title in your name. That VIN is registered to someone somewhere that has a title. You certainly would not want to receive stolen property.
  21. Congrats Kevin. Ya gots to let us know what ya git from it.
  22. What is the size of the bearing? Never can tell what might be laying around.....
  23. Is that something you eat???
  24. That looks like a sprocket tooth more so than a gear tooth. My first guess would be it came from somewhere along the cam chain. Can you get some better closeup pics?
  25. That's to bad, Since you are so close maybe we will just have to meet for ice cream somewhere one of these days.
