Cut the darkness.

This sounds like it would be a great MD job. Quick and easy with a good smile factor. At most any MD there will be someone that can help you thru it. -

Since you need to run the power wire back to the battery anyhow it is not hard to add in a switch to turn the light on after the engine is started. If you do not add the switch, what can happen is that as soon as you turn on the ignition switch, the light turns on. Then when you hit the starter, iv the system voltage drops below 9V the HID safety circuit will shut off the HID due to low voltage. Once the protection circuit shuts it off you have to cycle power to reset it. It is not real uncommon to hit the low voltage cutoff during starting which would mean that you would have to shut off the engine and restart and hope the voltage holds this time. This is NOT a problem with the HID systems, it is them working as designed. Low voltage would damage the internal electronics. They are just protecting themselves. Besides, having a switch to kill the headlight does come in handy when working on the bike. -
If the clutch upgrade is the same for both a 1st and 2nd gen then it is about a half hour job, the second time you do it. It takes an hour the first time. You need to be sure there is a small torque wrench there. I wont know till the last minute whether I can sneak out of the house for 3 weekend trips in a row....

Freebird's Maintenance Day Parts/Accessories Thread
Flyinfool replied to michellea's topic in Watering Hole
I don't even know what is available for 1st gen grips. The ones that are on the bike now are all foam with chrome caps at each end of the foam. I like the way they feel, their just worn almost thru in places. I hate chrome so if you stock something with foam grip and no chrome, you're in my ballpark. I'm not supper fussy, function comes long before beauty. -
Hmmmm. The kids are all long past High school, the last of the grand kids just finished high school last year and the great grand kids still have a ways to go. In today's world anything with kids and cameras scares me.

There's gonna be Jeff's crawling out of the woodwork.

I don't think the flavor matters to Big Tom. It's still ice cream.

There is snow in the horrorcast for the next 3 days. I know, I know, it's all MY fault. Over the weekend I got my bike all back together and ready to ride, then I packed away all of the snow shovels for the summer, then I even put away the snow brush and ice scrapers from the truck.

Well then it is a spotting scope mount for the rear-view mirror so that you can keep tabs on the 2nd gens following you.

There are a lot of mascot costumes that will not fit on the bike. These are getting hard.

Not even close. I was thinking of a cat eating a tangerine in the Dominican Republic But then I have always been a little different.

Universal fit.

It is so obvious. I can't believe no one got it yet. . . . . . . . It is a thingamabob, for the doohickey.

Or you can send the pics to me. I don't have one of those temperamental Macs, just a good old Intel job that does what its told.

The wheel is a great Idea. I suppose I could add a metal caster and I would double as a wheelie bar......

I'm certain it is repairable. I spent the day getting other parts done. I will let you know once I figure out how big the patches should be.

Looks great. You been busy.

Not hours, Probably more like 10 minutes.

Here are some pics to show the damaged corner. The whole top and left side have deep scratches, and the top left rear corner is scraped thru. It is just barely thru in a couple of spots along that crease but that whole crease is VERY thin and will leak water if/when it rains. It looks like maybe someone drove under something that they did not quite fit under, scraping up the top and then it came off the car an slid down the road on its left side.

The Receiver hitch is finally done, painted, and permanently mounted for the last time. That takes #2 & #11 off the list. To me at least, that is two biggies.

The Receiver hitch is finally done, painted, and mounted for the last time. It don't look to bad even ifin I do say so myself. Ya think I should shorten the stinger some?

Sorry to hear you went down, especially to save someone else. Glad your injuries are fairly minor. And it is not just the newbies you have to watch out for. I have a friend that has been riding for 20+ years and thinks he is a great rider. But in a parking lot he duck walks the bike everywhere and his feet are always dragging any time he is below 10 mph starting or stopping. The soles of his riding boots are only good for about 5K miles. He is also afraid to lean the bike more than about 20° in a curve, he will hit the breaks in the middle of a curve. He also feels that since I wear a helmet that I am telling the world that I do not know how to ride. These are 2 of my indicators when following a bike as to the ability of the rider. I keep my distance from him and all foot daggers.
