  1. You never did answer as to why you had the clutch pack out in the first place. If you are replacing the clutch because it was slipping, it is common for a slipping clutch to be a weak spring with the clutch just fine. A new clutch with the old weak spring will still slip. The springs die of old age, not miles of use.
  2. I started the preparations for putting my '88 up for sale. Put in the new battery, it took 3 cycles to fill the float bowels, started on the first revolution of the engine, Ran a bit rough for the first minute or 2 and smoothed right out as all of the storage oil and stuff worked its way out. Then I started sanding down the one blue side bag cover to paint it to match the rest of the bike. Once that is done a good wash and wax and it will be ready to list for sale. Some one will get a good ready to go bike with a lot of custom features that were never offered for sale.
  3. Drinking while reading this site has ruined more than one keyboard and/or monitor due to a very sudden and uncontrollable need to LOL
  4. WOW, I am at a loss. Dan will be missed a lot around here and I am sure many other places as well. Prayers up...................

  6. I commend you for still being able to learn, AND admit to it. I still hope to learn something new every single day. Now for some of the science to help you understand what you have learned. 1. The LED light element is probably actually brighter than the Silver star element. 2. LEDs have a directional light output, where incandescent is a full 360° spherical light output. 3. your lens and reflector were designed to use a full 360° of light to fill the pattern. 4. You noticed that there was more side fill with the LED, There is also more vertical spill with the LED, This due to the lens and reflector not getting the light from the expected directions. 5. All the spill makes thing up close very bright, fooling less observant people into thinking the LED is far brighter. when they fail to notice that there is less available light down the road. 6. Some LEDs focus so badly that they actually have close foreground objects bright enough to cause your night vision to go away making it even harder to see down the road. 7. Due to the light spill at the top of the beam, it appears to the uninformed that they are seeing farther when in actuality they are effective have the light pattern of the hi beam when set at lo beam, that is why there is little if any difference between Lo and Hi beam. this is also why the blind oncoming traffic, that last thing I want while on a bike is to be blinding someone that is closing on me at well over 100MPH and hoping they will pass safely just a few feet to my left. All of this info usually falls on deaf ears if I bring it up before someone takes the plunge. There is just to much hype from those that do not understand, Those of us that do understand are in a small minority so we must be wrong. I have watched reviews done with real light meters that scientifically proved all of this to be true They tested numerous brands and models of LED lights, HID lights and incandescent lights all in the same car and all on the same road and also in the lab to see the beam pattern on a big white wall, they also measured the light output and many places on the wall. The most interesting part was in the comments after, A scary number of people said that this confirmed that they will buy the worst performing bulb because it was the brightest. at 5 feet. but was so out of focus that there was no difference at all between hi and lo beam and it was totally blinding all oncoming traffic. Oh by the way, the real winner of the testing was a HID in a dedicated projector housing. #2 was a HID in a stock lens/reflector. #2 was a LED in a dedicated projector housing #4 was a stock Halogen bulb and housing #5 on down was all of the LEDs in a stock housing. #2 and #2 were a mathematical tie. The differences were within the margin of error of the test equipment. I wish I could find that again, It was about a 45 minute video that someone put a lot of time and money into. OK my:rant: is over for now. Back to your regularly scheduled programming......
  7. Puc, believe it or not I have a whole box of those little .049 motors. I have one that I souped up enough to log 119 MPH on a radar gun. Got it to hold together at 36,000 RPM (not a typo). As for Snypers vision of the 3rd gen, I have been eyeing that up for my daily 45 miles of commuting especially since I can no longer ride the venture. Or maybe an electric version. Or just go for it and strap on the pulse jet.................... Now, Back from the thread Hi Jack, I sure hope that your new red (bestest fastest color ever) SVTC is everything you hoped for and more. For me the jury is just starting to get seated. But then I am a cynical old Fool that can not take much of anything on faith.
  8. What unfriend you or anyone else over this? Surly you jest....... This is just getting warmed up. :icon_lurker: :icon_lurker:
  9. Lucky you, I am wanted by the IRS for 4 legal actions against my name. Fortunately the nice lady on the phone told me that I can pay the fines off with Amazon gift cards. This or the police will be at my door in just 1 hour from now....... Good thing Amazon has same day delivery......... But at least it took her 25 minutes (I was starting to think this could rival a personal record) to explain this all to me before the line suddenly went dead. I figure that was at least 5 or 6 people that do not understand such things that were saved from losing a lot of cash.
  10. You can either rebuild this starter for real cheap, or just swap one from one of your parts bikes. Either way I would add the internal ground mod that Dingy wrote up, It is super cheap and easy to do and it does help. Also gives you a good excuse to open up the starter and clean it out before you put it in.
  11. Ahh yes, the good old days, when you walked into the gun store, plunked down your cash and walked out the door with your new bundle of joy. Now you can still do a private to private sale with just cash and carry. BUT if you go to buy new, Then there is the background checks and forms to fill out. The background check can be approved, denied or delayed. If it is delayed that means that the computer found something it did not know how to handle and needs a real person to look at it. They have 48 hours to either approve or deny. To deny they must have a valid reason, IF they do noting then it is automatically approved after the 48 hours. Subject to change without notice. I know they are currently working on some big changes, I do not know if they happened yet. I did get my WI CCW just because in @cowpucs home state they have a law that says NO non MI resident may be in possession of a hand gun in the state of MI unless they have a CCW issued by their home state. (I have no clue how they deal with a person from a state that has constitutional carry) I spend a lot of time in the deep woods of upper MI and always pack because I have had run ins with bears, wolves and coyotes. Never had to shoot one yet but was real close a couple of times. There is also a law in MI hunting regs that if you see a feral pig and are in possession of a firearm you are required to shoot it, no hunting license required, I LIKE pork.

  14. Does it come with a tag, "Some assembly required."? Getting close now, can almost smell the premium gas already.
  15. It is not a typo, it is blatant false advertising.
  16. The oil does not know if it is at the bottom of the engine or in a tank above the engine, oil level is oil level. As long as you can still pull the dipstick without overflowing it does not matter if it is on the left side and you mark the dipstick at a higher point or on the ringht side and you mark the stick at a lower point. When I first posted the idea my worry was that the stick was on the right and that it would not be long enough to mark. But since it is on the left, it makes it that much easier.
  17. I would not trust anything that company says. They are claiming 1,100W? that means there will be a 92 AMP power draw. You will need headlight wiring that is the size of the starter cables. Your charging system is fused at 40 amps. I do not think it is a typo because everything from this company has ridiculously high ratings. These are also rated at 165,000Lm, That light output would be starting fires in front of you as you are going down the road. That ad is SO full of BS, can you trust them to honor a warranty if they are willing to LIE to get your cash in the first place. One thing that I find humorous with most of the LED headlights, if they advertise which chip they are using, I look it up and check the data sheets, they are all nearly always advertising more, and usually way more light output than the manufacturer of the LED chip claims is possible. This particular ad does not say which chip they are using so I can not look it up. But I will bet that they are not anywhere near 1,100W and 165,000Lm of light.
  18. On a 2nd gen if a float valve leaks, the tank being above the carbs will fill the engine with gas. On the other hand, if a fuel pump fails while on the road, you can gravity feed the engine to get home.
  19. How hard would it be to get the oil levels correct and then with the bike on the side stand mark the leaning oil level on the stick for future use??
  20. Is the side car got the mounting hardware to attach it to the Venture? It sure looks like you got your $500 worth.
  21. In the battery world, more $$$$ does not always equal better. The AGM batteries are near the top of the price range, they will give more CCA and more reserve capacity. Both are good things. These will spin the engine faster and longer. But my experience is that they do not live as long. They are not tolerant of getting run down buy a parasitic draw that sometimes just happens, or a engine that is cranky one day and just does not want to start. As far as bang for the buck, I have yet to find a better option than the good old fashion Yuasa wet battery. I get the most years out of a good old Yuasa.
  22. I bet it took a nap......... As you mentioned it is pretty common. I rebuilt mine a long time ago before nap time.
  23. Bring a good battery and jumper cables when you go to look at it. I very much do not expect it to start, but a good battery and a jump will let you know if the motor is frozen and if all the electrical stuff works. If things do not work it is very common for the fuse panel to go bad and not make good contact with the glass fuses. Easy to replace with a modern fuse panel. The Air Suspension only works with the key in the ACCY position. As mentioned if it shows an E4, that is almost always a very cheap and easy fix. Other issues may be more involved of a fix. None of the plastic on the bike is available new, if the plastic on the bike is good you will easily get your $500 back. If the plastic is really beat up, it may be hard to find replacements. To make a rider it will need new rubber all around for sure regardless of how good the tires look. Sitting with non use is harder on a bike than being a daily driver. Look all over for signs of dry rot on rubber or sign s of mice chewing the wires. Old wire insulation seems to be delicious to mice.
  24. Ya know wat,,, it's lop eared ambitious varmints like you that give us professional hammock lovers a bad name by fixin it just cuz it is broke. Us PROs will will make sure that it is broke enough to really need some fixin and than still wait until it is desperately needed before actually bothering to fix it. Sheesh, rookies.
  25. Car jumper cables is what I was trying to get across this whole time. Using to small of a wire will cause the wire to get very hot, and at the same time not pass enough current to spin the starter motor. Yes I would expect to see sparks when you press the negative jumper to the starter housing. When you are ready for that. don't be gentle, just smack that neg onto to motor, and don't let it slide around, that will minimize the sparks. If the starter is going to spin it should start spinning almost instantly. If you have the connection made for a whole second and it is not spinning, get the jumper off, it aint gonna spin. Don't wait for the magic blue smoke to come out.
