  1. IF the RLU was working correctly it would light the white headlight indicator on the dash to tell you it had switched to low when you selected hi. But then the white bulb could be burnt out. Check to be sure you are actually getting hi when selected.
  2. You had to mention CL where I could see it..... Ya it works fine. Now I just spent mo money......
  3. Their still working on the strip search...........
  4. Do you actually use that valve? To be honest my handle could have vibrated off years ago and I would not have noticed. With the gas gauge working I just set it to reserve and forget about it. It is way to hard to reach and/or turn while driving. When the last bar on the gas gauge goes out and red light comes on, you have 1 gallon left, same as reserve.
  5. I'll bet he would rather have the root beer IN him than ON your but......
  6. I'll bet they can find some one that does........
  7. OHHHHH!!!! I like that one. Beat on it with a rock.
  8. For that many unrelated tings to go wacky at the same time my guess would be a bad ground somewhere. Start by cleaning the ground at the battery and the the other end of the cable where it connects to the engine. At the neg battery terminal there is another smaller wire coming out of there, it goes to a small connector and then to another ground, check that ground point also. Those are the easy things to check.
  9. Or you could slow down enough for a 2nd gen to catch you and then the clutch whine will drown out your rattle.........
  10. You weather up there looks delightful. scattered showers and cool temps. By the weekend most of the USA will be stupid hot and humid, and stay that way well into next week.
  11. Fortunately I have not had to tear this far into my 88 yet, so I can not help with your washer question. While you are/were in the clutch area you should have done the clutch spring upgrade if it hasn't been done already. The stock spring gets weak with time, not miles. You will first notice this as a slip of the clutch when at wide open throttle in 4th or 5th gear. IN the lower gears it is still slipping but you are to busy hanging on (and watching the second gens in your rear view mirrors:stickpoke:) to notice.
  12. For the 1st gen, make the high position a little higher than stock. Any chance of coming up with a way to add some kind of vent.
  13. That sounds real scarrrrrry. I do not think I would try to assemble a piece of machinery while it is running. But glad you got it back together and still have all of your fingers.
  14. Now that is just mean, It would not be nearly as mean to send the new kid in the shop to go and get the brass magnet....
  15. Seeing as how Yamaha discontinued the windshield for the first gens last year, will you be coming out with anything thing to help us 1st geners out?
  16. With a trailer that heavy there is always the option of adding electric trailer brakes. The brakes will at least get you back to the same stopping distance that you had with no trailer. You will still have the issues of all of that weight in cornering. I have read of people pulling 700+ lbs with a bike, but that is not recomended. I think it is in Japan the they have Gold Wings outfitted to be tow trucks to tow cars. But the trailers are set up with electric over hydraulic brakes and the the bike is not carrying any of the weight, just pulling it.
  17. It is also easier to work on stuff at home where you can go out and kill a few minutes at a time without having to traipse across town. That way if get tired or to hot you just wander back in the house for a cold one and a rest.
  18. That sounds like a lot. That is close to the limit. There is no "official" towing weight for a motor cycle. The rule of thumb that I have always heard is 50% of the bikes weight, but you have to watch the recommended max weight of the hitch on the bike. Some hitches specify some don't. The rule of thumb for tongue weight is 10-15% of the total trailer weight but you have to watch the recommended max tongue weight of the hitch on the bike. Some hitches specify some don't.
  19. I would think that we can find someone here close enough to help you move it to under your front window. How hard can that be? Mine get ridden across grass every day. As far as long term parking on grass, Get 3 of the heavy type patio/driveway blocks and put one under each tire and one under the side stand. This will keep any of the points from sinking and it will still think it is on concrete. If you are going to cover it and have it stored outside I would also consider adding a couple of stakes and tiedowns to make sure that some wind storm does not knock it over.
  20. Is that a pic of Jesus? This pic could be worth big money on ebay..............
  21. I have given out a couple but have still not received one. Is that why I am have all of these issues with my bike????
  22. I guess I never tried starting it in gear. From the wiring diagram it looks like there are actually 2 separate switches in the clutch switch, One is normally open and the other is normally closed. The starter cut out is the NC and the cruise is the NO. The switch is in the Normal position when the clutch lever is pulled. Dang, now I have another project.
  23. I just drive faster so that the dirt can't catch me........ I give it a good wash/wax in the spring using a mild soap and water followed by a a coat of NuFinish wax, after that it just gets blow cleaned till next spring.
  24. There is a clutch switch? If I grab the clutch while in cruise the engine just red lines, I just do not do that anymore. There is still 4 other ways to disengage the cruise. Is the clutch switch supposed to open or close when you pull in the clutch?
