  1. I'm going by remembery here, cuz its been a while since I had mine off, but in addition to the two Philips head screws on the bottom corners, are there not also two acorn nuts accessed from the inside of the side bags? If there are lights in your reflector then there should also be a connector to unplug. If you are taking this off to add lights to it, then a write up with lots of pics is required.
  2. If one of the two materials is polyethylene they are pretty much SOL. Polyethylene is what they make many bottles, like glue bottles, out of because there is nothing that will stick to it and very few chemicals that will attack it. It is easier to bond wax paper than it is polyethylene. They may have to resort to pop rivets or screws.
  3. Does that mean that tonight you can go out for 8 lbs of ice cream?????
  4. That old Venture is still a good choice. If you want faster stick with the 1st gen ventures.......
  5. Offer him my condolences. He is fortunate to have a job that he can be gone from for so long and have it still be there waiting. Glad you made it back safely. How long till your bike makes it home so you can start riding again? Seeing as how you just missed winter.......
  6. I have seen brand new bad batteries. Check to make sure that the battery connections are shiny clean. If you are taking to the place the you bought it from. DONT tell them that they just sold you this one untill after they load test it. If they ask, just tell them it is old. You can say this with all honesty if you are comparing it to the adult life of a mayfly (1 day).
  7. Not quite pushing distance. Did you check the VR assistance list to see if there is someone nearby with a trailer to help you get it home?
  8. Oh Geeez! Now she is gonna git a big head.......
  9. How far from home is the bike?
  10. For testing try turning the ignition switch real slow to see if you can find a happy spot to at least get it home. From what you are describing, it sure sounds like the ignition switch.
  11. And what is the nearest hospital where we can visit you??????
  12. HEY!!!! I just realized....... Thats cheating....... You just spent your whole winter here and now are heading back home just in time to miss our version of winter. Your going to go a whole year with no winters......... Yes I'm jealous.......
  13. You mentioned that the steering was fly by wire. I would really not like for an electrical issue to take away my ability to steer. If it really is fly by wire steering, that would be a deal breaker for me, especially once they start getting old enough for me to be able to afford one.
  14. :sign yeah that: When the engine is cold the oil is a little thicker so that is where the slip will first be noticed. The slip will get worse till it slips all of the time. Right now all you need is a new heavier spring and a gasket. If you wait long enough you will still need the spring and gasket but also all new clutch plates. You do not "need" to replace the half disc with a full disc. I am thinking of putting my half disk back in this winter.
  15. Kids make such great laborers. They can haul bricks and beer all day long. And then they sleep good at night. Don't pass up your golden opportunity..... Or just say screw the bricks and spoil the kids rotten for the trip home, after all that is a grandpas job.
  16. I will be somewhere in my hour commute at that time and I will be on the bike. So I have you covered from here.
  17. My one day employment So after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter, a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day... About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance. I said pleasantly, ' Good morning and welcome to Wal Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?' The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, 'Hell no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7. Why the hell would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or stupid?' So I replied, 'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am, I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.'
  18. I also put this N52 magnet on my center stand and all of my traffic light problems went away. There are a lot of people that have put tiny or whimpy magnets on there bike a then declared that magnets make no difference. You need a big powerful magnet to get the job done reliably. As a bonus I have pulled several screws and nails off of the magnet that I can only assume were headed for my back tire. To mount it I put some double sided foam tape on the magnet and then just stuck it on the center stand since that it the lowest point on my bike. Mine has been on there for 3 years now with no issues. As mentioned handle these magnets carefully they have the power to hurt you bad. they will also mess up older TVs or monitors from several feet away and do permanent damage. so you want to even pay attention to where you put the package. I feel sorry for the person that may have had a computer or other device with magnetic media nearby on the delivery truck. For rust protection I just painted mine black Rust-Oleum.
  19. Any progress on a shield for the 1st gen. If you need a pattern I have a worn, original, stock, 1st gen shield from my 88 that I can get to you.
  20. Don't lie. You just want to put 1st gen parts on your 2nd gen to make it go faster.........
  21. If you are going to have retro styling shouldn't you also have retro features????? It is a dark shade of black.
  22. Even though we did not get to meet, I received enjoyment reading of your adventures. So what is the final tally, how many states did you get to visit?
  23. 12am in which time zone. It is already past 12am in Japan.
  24. Check the cranking voltage at the starter terminal. If it is lower than when checked at the battery, you have a bad connection or a bad solenoid. Dont forget the connections on the ground side. Both ends of each wire. Also look at the crimp, the terminals faces can be clean but still have a corroded connection between the wire and the terminal. You can use your volt meter to find the bad connection. Your charging voltage is low, this would be any one or all of, bad connection, bad stator, bad regulator. All said, my first guess is a bad ground.
