  1. You wouldn't be the first to tell me I was full of S*#t........ Actually you would have to get in line.......
  2. Cars and trucks make all kinds of weird noises when that cold. Most of the noises will get less as things warm up. Other than a little lighter engine oil, Just be sure that the Anti-freeze and battery are good. The lighter engine oil is more to help the starter motor.
  3. You've been waiting for them with bated breath, so without further ado, here are the 2011 Darwin Awards: Eighth Place In Detroit, a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys. Seventh Place A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who "totally zoned when he ran", accidentally jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run. Sixth Place While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8 foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom, when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach used their hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital. Fifth Place Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor. Fourth Place Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger. Third Place After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt. HONORABLE MENTION Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 A.M. so they lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice that the window was closed. RUNNER UP Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more excited, and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge, they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman's cable lay nearby. They secured one end around Bingham's leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham's foot was never located. AND THE WINNER IS.... Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt ( Paderborn , Germany ) fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant's unexpected defecation knocked Mr Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves... '**** happens' IT ALWAYS SEEMS IMPORTANT TO THANK THESE PEOPLE FOR REMOVING THEMSELVES FROM THE GENE POOL.
  4. Bring it on up here. I have yet to run into the engine that I could not find the problem.
  5. For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies. 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans... 5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans. CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
  6. He is still just learning. Just wait till he really understands.........
  7. Here are a couple of pics. I had a Shuttle once upon a time. It was good in its day. If you try to learn on it remember that there are very few parts still around for that 15 year old heli. Yes we do fly in the snow.
  8. Furnace is more better now. The house is warm again with out resorting to having a M&E or even a MD to generate a bunch of hot air. The whole job was easy, that means that the next job will make up for it.
  9. I have been flying model airplanes for 45+ years and got started into RC helies 15 years ago. I have or at least have had at least one of almost every size heli made, from the tiny MSR to a big Xcell gasser with a chain saw engine in it for power. I am also the president of the SWARM (Southeast Wisconsin Area Rotory Modelers) helicopter club. FWIW The smaller they are, the harder they are to fly. We recommend a 500 electric or 30 size nitro, or bigger to learn on. Get a simulator to practice on and find help to get you started. Good help will save you a lot of repair bills. Good luck, helies are as addictive and more fun than crack.
  10. I hate to tell, you but almost all cars have had a "black box" for more than 10 years already. If you are ever in a serious accident where you kill someone you can bet that the contents of your computer will be used in court. A friend of mine was denied warranty work on his trans. The day after he dropped it off they called and told him that his truck was not designed to be running 85 mph. How do you think they knew that? And that was on a '94.
  11. The furnace is an older high efficiency. Wel it is a 93% efficient which was really high back 25 years ago and had a 10 year warranty. I do realize that the whole thing is old and not long for this world, but a new furnace is not in the budget for this year. I did find a local store that has the draft blower for $225 and in stock. I will be leaving work at noon to go pick it up and get it installed, so that the place is still open just in case I need something else in the process. This has been to easy so far, I'm still scared about that.
  12. Arrrrgggggg........ So last night I get home from work and hear the furnace start up. Well I really could not help but to hear it since it sounded just like a jet engine at takeoff power. So I jumps up off the couch and run for the basement expecting the worst. Open up the covers on the furnace to see what is going on and the draft blower is jumping all over the place. All 3 mounting legs have broken off the housing and it is shaking violently. So I hit the power switch on the side of the furnace and low and behold it quieted right down. Who da thunk it? I thought well I can live with this noise level but all of the girls in the house might not like the cold. So I grab some tools and dive in. It was really easy to get the blower out, just 2 hose clamps and 7 wires that even had quick connects on them. Easy always scares me. All wires nicely color coded to know where they go back on. Now with the blower out of the way it was really easy to get to the mounting feet to remove them from the furnace. Off to the work bench. well first I have to push stuff around to clear a spot to make a new mess in. First thing was to power up the motor to see if it sounds ok. To steal a quote from the amateur plumbers, "HELL NO". It is vibrating so bad that I can not hold on to it. Well that explains why the mounting feet are broken off and the sheet metal was amplifying the vibrations to make all of the racket. So time to disassemble. There are 6 spring clips holding the blower assy together. They came off rather easily, another warning sign. nothing can ever be easy. Once I get the thing open the problem is obvious, the plastic blower wheel is missing a couple of vanes on one side and has snapped off the center part that attaches it to the motor shaft and the back side is all melted from rubbing on the housing. There is even a part number on the blower wheel, so I head for the puter to find that part, it is just a piece of plastic, how much can that be? HA!!! You can not buy that piece of plastic anywhere. You have to get the whole blower assy, every place that lists the blower assy has a note under it that says "NO BLOWER PARTS ARE AVAILABLE" So they must know that this cheap piece of plastic fails but know that they can hit you up for a whole blower. So I do a bunch of searching on line for the best price and cool, the best price is even here in town, so I go to the check out page and then POW, right in the kisser, Even though the place is only 5 miles from my house, they still want me to order it and have it shipped. But they do have a retail outlet. Get ready. Are you sitting? Here it comes........... There is a $150 counter fee:scared: Well since we are supposed to drop to sub zero tonight I had to do something so I glued the mounting feet back onto the housing and glued all of the pieces of the blower wheel back together as best I can. I even tried to balance the darn thing to get it into the ballpark. put the blower back together on the bench and fire it up. well there is still some vibration but not to bad, so I reinstall it into the furnace. It made it thru the night but I do not expect it to last very long. So I am sitting at my desk stewing about that $150 counter fee and waiting for all of the parts houses in town to open up to see if I can find the part local at a place that actually wants me to come and pick it up. I even thought I found one on Craigslist for $50, new prices are from $300-$700, in New London. New London is only 150 miles away. and my brother lives about 15 miles from there. COOL. NOT, wrong New London, it is in New London Minnesota not New London Wisconsin. That is to far to drive for the part, it would not save any time or money. OK Rant / whine over. Stores are opening up now.:mo money: Dang, did I type all of that????
  13. I have to agree Eat and tv. Not only is it cold out but you will be laying on the cold ground and getting wet with cold antifreeze.
  14. I told you I was sending some your way.......
  15. I suppose that means that you will really be getting the cold shoulder when she gets home....
  16. As mentioned, LEDs draw very little power. You could even save power by converting all of the incandescents to all LEDs. LEDs are very easy to hook up, there are just 2 wires, a positive and a ground. If you hook them up backwards, nothing bad happens, they just don't light up. Reverse the wires and you are good to go. You can never have to many lights. I have already added 170 LEDs and still have another 600 LEDs to find places for.
  17. No, we are having the mildest winter that I can remember. We have had a total of 7.5 inches of snow from the last 10 "storms" combined, and 6 inches of that was all from one day. By this time of year we should be sneaking up on 2 feet of snow for the season. We just missed setting the record for the latest 1 inch snow fall. We are also averaging more than 10°F above normal for the winter. I like winter except for when we get real cold. Tonight we are supposed to get down to 3°F. In my book that is COLD and I do not like it that cold. I'll keep the snow but I am gonna send you the cold part.......
  18. The banks do make mistakes and deposit money sometimes, but when that happens most people keep quiet and say nothing, so you never hear about it.
  19. Leo I'll be sure and send some weather your way.......... I don't mind SNOW, I actually like driving in SNOW. It is the single digit and minus temps that I really have no use for. My poor truck needs new shoes and a new battery. I was trying to squeeze out one more winter. If I can squeeze thru winter then summer is a breeze.
  20. Is that part of that whole Carma thing....... I learned a long time ago, NEVER PO a nurse or Dr. they have ways........
  21. LEDs, lots of LEDs. Everywhere.
  22. I sometimes wonder if people fixate on the single point of light that is a MC headlight and then go where they look. All of my life I have worked on not going where I look in anything that I drive. I have practiced looking at the source of danger while driving away from it. While taking flying lessons my instructor commented that I was the first student that he ever had that could look at something over my left shoulder and continue to fly in a straight line. Most people will look left and turn or at least drift left.
  23. I thinks you have that bass ackwards. But either way the 1st gen will still be faster........ If it don't go chrome it...
  24. Yup, sounds like a good excuse to get out and ride for some visits. I didn't know you could use share and ice cream in the same sentence. I'm sure there is a grammatical rule against it. Or is that just my rule.
  25. Keep the RPMs up around 2K and let them run till at least the cooling fan comes on. Short starts in the winter are bad for the transmission, the short run will cause condensation of water inside of the engine and it is not getting hot enough to boil it off. Short runs are like adding water to your oil. Just sitting there idling does not circulate the oil in the trans good. If you are going to run it in the winter it is best to actually take it out for a good ride to heat everything up good.
