And are you still breathing after posting your wife's weight on the internet????? Yup Earl will be getting a call from me soon for the springs, and HD RR/stator, and maybe the anti-dive block-off plates. The couple of dollars difference is well worth it.

Pretty much all of the twin rotor helies are for indoor or possibly outdoor if there is near zero wind. The controls are set up differently than on a "real" rc heli so you will be learning bad habits that will have to be broken down the road when you move up. If you were to move up to a single rotor like the Blade MSR then it can handle at lest a light breeze of 5mph for a beginner or up to 10mph once you get some experience. The other advantage of something with a single rotor is that you will be learning the same type of control inputs the you will be using on a more advanced heli. Or go with the Blade mCPX and you will be flying a fully capable heli that also bounces very well, and can be flown indoors or outdoors up to 20mph wind. Of course each time you move up to better it will cost more. My personal recommendations on the best heli to start with is either the Trex 600N or the Raptor 50, These are both very common so you can get help learning to set it up correctly, learn to fly, easy to repair, repair parts are available everywhere and repair parts are not real expensive. This size of heli (in my opinion) is the best compromise between being big enough to see and fight off wind gusts and cost of ownership and performance. Either of these can be set up as mild for the beginner learning to fly to all out 3D smack-down to fly like in the videos. HA! Now you gots a lot more to think about.

Is there a safe way to get through Chicago on a bike?

If the battery is low, when you hit the starter the voltage may be dropping low enough that the clock thinks the battery was removed. My truck does that whenever the battery terminals need cleaning. The clock will reset while starting. -

The only guess I can come up with is.......... Since It is only the hours that are messing up it may be that while the switch button is moving properly, maybe the contacts are sticking or dirty with something conductive. -
Oh drat........ That weren't in the budget yet...... So much for the budget.......

Here in WI you can only hunt with a crossbow if you are disabled in a way that prevents you from pulling a bow. Our most recent big hunting regs accomplishment was allowing scopes with magnification on muzzle loaders during the muzzle loader deer season. (now I have to go out and buy another scope) I think cross bows are still a long way off here. I have not even heard of any rumblings in that direction. If cross bows are legalized here or if they create a cross bow season, then I will have to run out and buy one and learn to use it. I can't have any kind of a deer hunting season happen without me. Good luck in your quest.

You are forgetting about my marshmallow butt and I have no idea what to expect for gas mileage pulling a fully loaded trailer at freeway speeds so I have planned for 100-130 mile legs to stop for gas. Taking #355 will add about 35 miles and a half hour to the trip, but that does look interesting as a route with less traffic. 6.5 hours for 420 miles would require an average speed of 64MPH. I will need at least 4 gas / butt stops, and a breakfast stop and a meet up with others stop, and maybe even a lunch stop. Hey I did not get this wonderful physique by missing ANY meals. It is still early for planning, I will have to see where the road destruction projects will be along the route and who all I will be meeting up with along the way. -

That would make it more than one day each way. I don't get that many vacation days. -

I would very much like to be traveling with others. There is safety in numbers. Yes we will talk when it gets closer. I sure hope I can go this year. There was always some family medical issue that stopped me every year so far. -
The way my instructor explained it is that the wing low crosswind landing technique is the prefered method, BUT you do feel a side force that makes many passengers feel uneasy and that is why the airlines use the crab right to the ground technique. Mainly because it is easier on the passengers. Also some airplanes with low wings do not have room for the extreme bank angle during landing. My instructor made me learn both tecniques and even to use combinations of both tecniques so that I would be prepared for anything.

I do have an iPass and I have registered all of my vehicles including the bike and its trailer to it. I was planning to stick the Ipass to the inside of the trunk lid. It should work thru plastic. It is looking more like my target departure time will have to be Friday around 4 AM. I guess I will need to add more additional lighting to the bike and trailer. Or would I be better off leaving Milwaukee at 6-7pm Thursday night. That will put me in Chicago around 8-9pm, and at Dons at around 3-4am. But then I am trying to pick a campsite and set up camp in the dark while a couple of people might be trying to sleep. -
Save your settings when messing with your battery.

It also assumes that while you have the battery out and are working on things that you do not ground the positive battery cable. I have used my potable jump start battery to do the same thing. I have a cord with a lighter plug on both ends so that I can easily connect it to the lighter socket. I use the same cord for charging the the portable battery while driving. The other thing to be mindful of is that if you are disconnecting the battery to remove power from the system to do electrical work, this is powering the system back up and you no longer have a dead system. -

I'm not sure what your expectations are. In your handle bar post it was answered 34 minutes after it was posted. Your lift question was answered in 2 hours. I think that is doing pretty good for a response time to a question that was asked while some of us are still at work. This site is all volunteer, there is no pro being paid to monitor the site and answer questions. You will always get a lot of views that do not answer. I read most posts even if they do not apply to me, If the question is about something that I have no knowledge, I will not post, but I will still read it just so I might actually learn something. There is just so much still for me to learn. If you own any version of a Venture, this site is the best $12 you will spend on it. I have yet to see a question asked that could not be answered by someone.

Is there a safe way to get through Chicago on a bike?

Just starting to do some of the early preplanning to head out to Dons MD. I just hope that there are no crisis again this year that make me stay home again. The plan was to start out very early on Friday morning and be coming back thru late Sunday night. My original plan was to leave home around 6am but after reading some of these posts I may consider bumping that up to 3 or 4am to clear Chicago/Gary by 6:30 According to my mapping software it is about 8.5 hours ride if I stick to the interstates. If I detour to avoid dieing in Chicago/Gary traffic then it will push out to 9+ hours. If the weather is HOT then I will need more stops to keep my marshmallow butt from melting. I want to make it to Dons early enough on Friday to rest up for the ride out to dinner. It would also be nice to be able to set the tent up before it gets to dark. I still have so much to do and so little time left to get it done in........ The more I work on stuff the more I find that should be done..... June is coming fast. -
Just like the title says IS there a "safe" way to drive a bike through Chicago? I did read this thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50392 I have driven through Chicago in my truck many times, My truck is a full size, extended cab, 8' box with over sized cap, 4x4 Pickup painted bright red. On almost every trip through there, I nearly get hit at least one time by someone that either does not see me or just doesn't care. Now my bike with trailer is a whole lot smaller and a whole lot less intimidating. Heck even a Smart Car will win in an altercation with a bike. While I don't think there is a good time of day to go through Chicago, is there a less bad time? But seeing as I live near Milwaukee Wisconsin, anything that is south or east of me requires either a very long detour around Chicago, or taking the ferry (IF it is running and not broke down) for big . $294 round trip for me, the bike, and the trailer.

All of the different brands have their own language to speak between the transmitter and receiver. now some of the older transmitters like the FM Futaba use a RF module, by switching modules you can have Futaba FM, Futaba 2.4, or JR/Spectrum 2.4. I know it is confusing. In this hobby like everything else, there are pros and cons to everything. My recommendation still stands to get at least 7 channels. If you get a 6 channel you will not have the option of going with a fueled helicopter. Feel free to ask here before you buy to see if what you are looking at is worth the expense.

The big difference is that MX and rice rockets are not trying to stop 1500 lbs. My Venture fully loaded, with my fat but on it, pulling my trailer will easily hit 1500+ lbs. I want all of the stopping power I can get. All of the slots and waves are reducing the effective area of the brake pads.

Steep? You have not priced OEM rotors yet. around $300 EA. I am thinking of getting a set just to put on the shelf for someday when I need them. I just wish they had a rear disc also.
