The issue with most of the surveillance systems is power. There is no power available. and the surveillance systems (recorder part) can not handle the temperature and humidity extremes of outdoor use. It gets real hot and real cold in the shed and everything gets wet from condensation. And from reading the specs, the surveillance cams have even less range than the trail cams unless you get into the expensive cams. The cam that I have picked has a range of 45 feet for the motion sensor and the IR flash, it also has a setting to just snap a pic anywhere from 1 second to 1 hour intervals. This is so that you can monitor a large area that is out of sensor range. This is probably the setting I'll use. One of the issues that is being remedied is that the lock on the gate has had the same combination for 33 years. There are a lot of past club members that have that combo. This is way out in the boonies, there are no houses within a mile and a 22 is not real loud either. I hope they will wait till I have the cam up before they come back.

So in other words since the speed is now correct (Lowered from 66 to 60) so that means that the miles on the odometer will be less? This will raise the resale value but cut down on the miles per tank of gas. Something to keep in mind when you also notice a sudden 10% drop in gas mileage.

A new Venture adventure!
Flyinfool replied to deanmay's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First off, welcome to the asylum...... That extra wire to the center of the battery is a fluid level monitor for the bikes computer. If the electrolyte drops to low You will see a battery icon in the display and get a flashing red light on the dash. If you need to replace the battery and the new battery does not have a hole for the battery probe, there is a simple fix to confuse the computer so it does not keep the warning light on. you simply add a resistor and connect to power. You MUST add the resistor or you will blow out the computer. As far as the rough running, start with a heavy dose of SeaFoam in the gas tank and run it hard. SeaFoam is like a miracle drug for these older bikes that were never intended to have alcohol in the gas tank. Clean the corrosion on the battery terminals and while you are at it check the other ends of the cables to. There was a post not to long ago with a great checklist for buying the 1st gen Ventures. I will go hunt for it unless someone beats me to it. -
Well I ended up ordering the Bushnell Trophy Cam Blackout. And to try to make sure it stays where I put it. I also ordered a Heavy Duty CamLockBox with Python cable lock. This Box is made from 10Ga steel (Thats .134 thick). My .22 bullet trap is made of 10Ga steel. So if someone does manage to spot it 15 feet up a tree the box will help to resist the cam being shot up. Not prevent it but it will make their target a lot smaller, and hopefully save the memory card with their pic on it. We were out at the field with the LEOs on Saturday and were able to find 2 bullets, one in pretty good shape. The LEOs are very interested in finding someone that would fire a gun withing city limits. The are running the bullets and shell caseings thru balistics to see if they match anything. There were a lot of things damaged in the sheds. There was one bullet that went thru the sheds wall thru the shed out the other side into the next shed thru that shed and out thru another steel wall and finally put a hole in the tank of the porta john. We did not go looking for that bullet... The two bullets that we found were inside of plastic jugs, one was the full jug of diesel fuel (they had to get the full one, missed the two empties) the other was inside of the weed sprayer tank that was full of weed killer. In looking at the hole patterns in the sheds, someone was out to inflict maximum damage, they knew right where things were stored. Every shot was either a hit on equipment or extremely close to high value equipment. Arrrrgggggg......... Why do people have to be such a-holes......... I really hope this camera catches someone. Charges will be pressed.

I cannot get it into neutral
Flyinfool replied to ChurchBuilder's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ok, someone has to ask the obvious. Is your shift linkage installed the right way. It can be installed backwards so that while you think you are looking for neutral between 1st and 2nd you are actually trying to find neutral between 4th and 5th. -
I sure wish they would have one around here. It always seems that they are a days ride away from me.

class air system need help
Flyinfool replied to cfrasure's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Even though you can not see the cracked solder joints they can still be there. As long as you have the board out and looking at it just go ahead and add a tiny amount of fresh solder (use non acid flux) to all of the joints. -
Dont talk about it, dont hint about it. The male brain is not designed to pick up on such things. Come right out and tell him to work on what needs work and then tell him to go for a ride.

Floor Boards - Where or How?
Flyinfool replied to thirdbike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There have been a lot of threads over the years of people that have tried boards and went back to pegs. If you do some looking and searching you may be able to find those threads and contact some of those people to see if they sold their boards yet. I seem to remember that for a while there was almost a community set of boards making the rounds. Someone may have finally decided they liked them and ended the travels of the boards. -
Why would you think that, my bed liner is always dirty....... But I do find this whole thing interesting, I hate chrome but have never found a good way to cover it. The only time I ever had any success with covering chrome was the chrome front fender on an old Yami 650 that I painted black to match the rest of the bike. I did that by starting with a power sander and 80 grit to "scuff" the surface.

I am even thinking that when I win this one that I will take the $18MIL per year for life (30 Years) just so I do not have to figure out where to store all of that money while I spend every last penny. It might be rough learning to live on a fixed income but I think I'll manage. Hmmmmmmmm.......... Some how I think there will be a lot of volunteers to help me "store" it.

I am looking at getting a trail camera used for deer hunting to use it as a security cam for a remote location with no power, internet or anything else. The hunting type trail cams is all I can think of. Small, Camo colored to hide in a tree, made to be outdoors, runs on batteries. motion activated, IR flash for night time. Does anyone have any experience with which ones actually work decent without costing a fortune. If they spot the cam I am sure it will either get shot or stolen or both. Twice in the last 2 weeks bullets have been put thru the shed, took out a front tire and a fuel jug, one just missed the engine. it is deliberate since shell casings have been found right next to the shed. About a dozen shots so far. Would love to be able to hand the police a pic of whom they need to pick up.

You are right, I forgot about these being Linear regulators where Amps in equals Amps out. But I was also under the impression that they had internal protection to to limit total power. It would be really nice if these new regulators were switching regulators so that power in equals power out. Switching regulators typically run very cool and very efficient, but can leave some ripple on the output. Dang electronics, you never get something for nothing, everything is a compromise. While you can partially check the diodes in the RR, by checking the 3 inputs with an ohm meter using both polarities. It is my understanding that you can identify if a diode has failed short but not one that has failed open. This is because the output side of the rectifier is internal to the RR so It can not be probed. My new style HO stator and RR should be here Thursday. I'll do some looking to check it out best I can. There is nothing wrong with the stator and RR that I am removing other than I need more available power to add more toys, gadgets, lights and doo-dads.

Length is not an issue for towing with a bike. To a point. Total width, weight and wind resistance are more of the factors. With what you are looking to do you will probably get pretty heavy for a bike to pull. It is not as much the ability to pull it as it is the ability to stop it. If you do this I would add a set of 7" electric brakes to the trailer. I am considering adding the electric brakes to my little tag a long. There will be those that say the stopping is no issue, just maintain a greater distance in front of you to allow for the increased stopping distance. This is true and should be followed. BUT this will not help you when someone pulls out in front of you or a kid comes flying out from behind a parked car, or something else unpredictable happens and you really do need to stop fast. It will also be necessary to make sure all equipment is well secured since a sudden weight **** of trailer cargo that would not bother a car or truck can upset a MC. I say go for it, CAREFULLY.
