Clutch master Sight glass repair.
Flyinfool replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Looks good Let us know in a few days how it works. -
I was in my back yard trying to launch a kite. I threw the kite up in the air, the wind would catch it for a few seconds, then it would come crashing back down to earth. I tried this a few more times with no success. All the while, my wife is watching from the kitchen window, muttering to herself how men need to be told how to do everything. She opens the window and yelled to me, 'You need a piece of tail.' I turned with a confused look on my face and said, 'Make up your mind. Last night, you told me to go fly a kite.

This one big http://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools/impact-wrenches/3-4-quarter-inch-heavy-duty-impact-wrench-66984.html

I didn't have the patients for penetrating oil to do its thing. The mill was even faster and less work than the hot wrench would have been. I had no intention of reusing that ball anyhow. The nut on mine laughed at my 3/4 drive impact wrench.

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT VIDEO....... I guess I just have better technology available. I took mine in the basement and put it on the milling machine. 30 seconds later that 1" carbide cutter had turned it into a pile of chips.

Diaphragm Install Info
Flyinfool replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You should have come to MD, we were playing musical diaphragms. DO NOT use any tools on the diaphragms unless you want to buy another set. Skydoc showed us how to do it right. No lube needed DO NOT separate the washers that make up the groove. First pull the diaphragm up till the bead is resting on the groove all of the way around. Then using your thumb nail (or a soft blunt object, screw drivers have sharp corners) you press the rubber bead into the groove till it bottoms out, go around twice to be sure it is seated all the way around. You can tell by looking at it when you are there. You could ride up to the WI MD at the end of this month. -
Rear wheel removal Mk1
Flyinfool replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just did my tires last week It took less than 1 hour to get both the front and rear tiers off the bike and even less to get them back on. I do not have a lift. The one time I had the rear tire off while using a lift, it took a lot longer and was actually harder to do. My stealer only wanted $250 to take the wheels of the bike and put them back on. -

This is what brake fluid can do to your plastic.
Flyinfool replied to raybear71's topic in Watering Hole
OUCH!! Rough way to learn that lesson. Most of us already know that lesson. I hope your pain helps someone else avoid the same issue. Loctite is almost as bad for plastic too. -

Is it the V45 or the V65 magna. I would not get anyone a V65 for a first bike, especially a teen that is still immortal.

The thread is M20 x 1.5mm. A standard nut from McMaster is 16mm thick, the "thin" nut is 10mm thick, the one in the pic looks to be about 4mm thick.

That car was either a full size pickup or suv. It looked to me as if it came down the ramp and tried to make a u-turn to the right direction but swung wide enough to get clocked by the truck and then the car with the vid got caught in the mess. That is one of the reasons I try to stay away from things I can not see over, thru, or around.

Rebuilding and Modding my 83
Flyinfool replied to icebrrg3rd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There are a lot of things that can do that to you. The kill switch, the side stand switch, the side stand relay, tip over sensor, a bad fuse or fuse holder, any of the wires connecting any of these parts together. Which wires are you wiggling to get it to run again? More gymnastics with the volt meter are in order. -
I talked to someone while at MD that has cracks in their Markland hitch platform. I do have just a chrome platform left over sitting in my basement. We did not exchange info at the time.

I am on a bunch of lists where I have dibs with the wives to by various hobbies stuff for what the guys have told their wives they paid for it..... another one to add to my list. To bad the warden was not at MD, I could have made the purchase offer at that time. You do have more ladder work to do on that garage roof, right?

Are you sure that it was a Harley, and not a 2nd gen, that shrinking dot in the mirror can look pretty much the same....... Just think how much Angle will smile when he gets new Diaphragms in there. Now that I do not have that 400 lb anchor on the back of my bike I cant believe how much better it runs with no holes in the the diaphragms.
