But on your car if one light goes out you can still see the road. Why abuse things unnecessarily. The biggest issue with HID on a 2nd gen is that as the battery starts to age, the voltage while cranking can cause the HID to go into "low voltage protection" mode. This meas it will turn off to protect its self. The only was to reset it is then to turn off the engine and restart and hope that this time the voltage does not drop as much. This puts a lot of extra wear on the starter, battery, solenoid, and all moving parts waiting for oil pressure to come up again. The switch is SOOoooo easy to add while installing.

Clutch takes about an hour the first time you do one. after that it takes about a half hour. Unless of course you have lots of help, then it might take hours......

I was once upon a time. I have since acquired one to play with. I wanted to reverse engineer it so that it would work correctly with LED turn signals and still retain the self cancelling. Yami made it very hard to disassemble. It is filled with a solid block of epoxy. But at least I have the connector So that if I do come up with something it will just plug right in.

In the event of the throttle getting stuck wide open it gives you a way to kill the engine without removing your hands from the handle bars or having to look away from the road to find the key while hanging on for dear life. Yes you could easily disable it. But what are you doing that you are hitting it while riding? In 30 years I have never hit it by accident while riding. I have hit it on purpose when a piece of road debris blocked the throttle open.

Welcome to the asylum. The Ventures not for city driving????? Now you tell me, and here I thought it was great in city traffic all these years. Sometimes you need the size to be better seen and the power and torque to escape the city cagers. My Venture handles the city better than my old KZ750, that is for sure, and on the open road there is no comparison.

No I don't know what the weight limits are, that is why I brought up the point. They also say to NOT make any tight turns because of the amount the bike will lean in the turn. This sounds to me like they know of some other issues and are putting out just enough to cover them if you have a problem. They do not say how tight is to tight or what will happen. I think it might be ok for a short rescue mission but I don't think I would want to go any significant distance with this setup. This is purely my gut feeling. From an engineering view just what I can see from the pics. The weight of the bike is cantilevered a LONG way out the back of the hitch, add in the forces generated if you hit a good bump, those gussets to the main support channel on the bottom sure look small to me. It might be fine, it just looks iffy for something with the weight of a Venture. 1st or 2nd gen. As that lever arm gets longer you are putting more stress on your hitch. A Class III 2" reciever is rated for 500lbs max tongue weight. that is assuming that the ball is within about a foot of the receiver. if you get out 2 feet then you can only have 250 lbs to get the same force. Our bikes front end plus this hitch is well over that number. I would ask a lot of questions and get the answers in writing. And still might not do it. There was someone a bunch of years ago with a similar system, but they said it was for 500cc or less bikes only. A full size bike was to much weight. They also are no longer around.

The one thing that they do not mention on their website is the max weight rating. This could be an important consideration with the weight of our bikes. They also suggest pulling the drive shaft.

I am due for a valve check. Once I finish getting my surface grinder into the basement valves are the next major project I have planned. Everyone keeps saying it ain't that bad but it still looks like a PITA to me.

spark plug socket?
Flyinfool replied to msshearin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WHAT?????? I have never broke a plug using just a deep well socket. I have broken plugs using a plug socket. The rubber insert is not to protect the plug, it is to hold the plug into the socket while you get it started in the hole. -

Flyinfool replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Also check for binding linkage. When I did Bills at your MD I had to turn the 1-2 screw at least 10 turns before anything moved on the carb tune. It was just that far out. Earl had the same issue with mine at Dons MD. -
Every report that I have ever read that did actual testing of deer whistles, that was not funded by a deer whistle manufacture, said that they do not work to deter deer from being in front of you on the road. Yes the deer do hear them, but it does not frighten them or cause them to move out of the way or stop them from getting in your way. So far the best deer "whistle" that I have found is my twin Bad Boys Horns. The deer just stand there looking at me till I hit the horns, at which point every deer I have seen has gone into full scramble for cover mode. There is no cover in the road so they have never YET gone there. I have watched a car stop for a deer in the road and laying on the wimpy beep beep horn and the deer just stood there in the middle of the road just a few feet away, looking at them. Probably laughing. From behind the car I hit the Bad Boys and that deer took off like rocket. Then I was laughing. I don't know if it is the pitch, or the volume of the sound that works, but it sure seems to work. If I see deer coming from the side I will hit the horns and they usually run for cover. If you were going to an electric sound, I would think that a wolf or coyote or other local deer predator sound would get them moving for the woods and thick cover.

It is called an ultralight. It is a whole class of small airplanes that must comply with Part 103 of the FAA rules. One of the rules is that it must weigh under 254 lbs, WITHOUT my lard butt in there. There are actually quite a few designs to choose from. Many companies make small aircraft and advertize them as ultralights but they are not legal as ultralights. There are also legal ramifications of landing and taking off from a highway.

1st Gen Venture with EFi?
Flyinfool replied to twigg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Would that even fit on a 1st gen??:mo money: -
Sorry to hear that, not a good way to start the day. As far as towing, unless the flat bed has special equipment for bikes, I have seen them just hook the front wheel and drag it up onto the trailer while laying on its side. A friend of mine works for a towing service. they have one special truck for picking up bikes, and only one of their flatbeds has a bike dolly. If you don't get one of those 2 trucks your bike rides on its side. If it is being recovered from a crash, they don't worry about additional damage.
-
And it still don't help if you are stuck in traffic. Yes you do need a special license for that if it weighs more than 254 lbs. You would need a pilots license. But I just happen to have a pilots license already.............Hmmmmmmm...........

disconect 85 and 86 wires from the relay. Does horn still honk when you turn the key on? If yes, then your problem has nothing to do with the new horn. It is something else on the bike. If no, the connect one of the wires back to the relay. Test for honk on power up. Let us know and well go from there.

do you maybe have a cali bike and that is one of the hoses for the evap system? maybe partly removed by PO?

1st Gen Venture with EFi?
Flyinfool replied to twigg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Fuel injection by its self will not make more horse power. The FI just keeps the mixture correct at all times, this may give a SLIGHT increase in power at CERTAIN speeds where the carb was way off. Getting more power would require getting more air through the engine by bigger intake, and/or better exhaust, and/or bigger valves/cam. I would love to mess with it if I had the money to waste. -
My local locksmith had the blanks in stock. It was around $7 total to have 3 keys made. Now if you are saying that you have no ignition key at all, then your only bet might be to take the ignition switch to a locksmith to have him make one, and get some spares right away. I keep a spare key hidden on the bike so that I can still get home if I should loose my keys while out of town.
