Most you can check yourself. Tires - While the tread may still be good, how old are they. They are at least 7 years old maybe more, if original. There should be a date code stamped into the side of each tire. Carb sync - It is easy to hook up with a member here to get that done for just the cost of a beverage or some ice cream. Stearing head bearings - sometimes they just need tightening. Look close at all rubber parts and seals, the bike spent most of its life just sitting. Sitting is harder on some parts than riding. Grease splines and pins in rear - they are notorious for not being greased properly from the factory. Not much else that I can think of, but then I don't ride a 2nd gen either. I'm sure others will chime in.

When you take it apart just measure all of the friction discs. A new disc is 3.00mm (.1181 inch) thick. The wear limit for a completely worn out disc is 2.80mm (.1102 inch) thick. not much of a difference there. When I did mine at 45K miles, all of the discs measured 2.95mm (.1165 inch) thick so I put them all back in. I fixed mine after the very first slip, if you are slipping for a while it is possible to have completely worn out the clutch. If the discs are good then the steel plates should also be good. If the discs are worn then you need to also check the steels for wear.

Weird Verizon Wireless bills.... scammy smelling?
Flyinfool replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
It could be good for a laugh, but if you do, be sure to kill all of the links first so that she does not accidentally try to pay it or give her info to the scammers. The aftermath of that would not be fun. -
Out of gas?
Flyinfool replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Since the pick up is at the bottom of the tank anyhow, if it was plugged, adding more gas would not make a difference. Have you ever changed your fuel filter? If it was junk in the gas there should be evidence of it in the filter. It could be the pump going. Maybe after cooling down some it came back to life? While you were coasting in gear when it first lost power, did you notice if the tach was registering the rpm. The tach is driven from the #2 cylinders ignition. If the tach went to zero as soon as you lost power that could indicate an ignition issue. Again the cool down could have revived it. Just a couple of thoughts.- 6 replies

A lot depends on exactly what plastic it is made from. Many (not all) car toppers are made from polyethylene. There is nothing that will stick well to polyethylene. The process that I have found that works best is; 1. Wash with dawn dish soap and water. 2. Wash with alcohol and put on gloves. now that it is clean you do not want to make any fingerprints by touching the plastic with skin. 3 .Sand thoroughly with 220 grit. yes it will be fuzzy. 4. Knock the fuzz off with 400 grit, just enough to knock off some of the fuzz, you want to leave the scratches from the first sanding. All of those scratches is what the paint will be trying to hang on to. 5. Wash with alcohol again. 6. Apply a coat of plastic bumper primer per instruction on the can. 7. Apply a light but complete coat of sandable primer in a color that contrasts with the color of primer that you want under the paint. 8. Apply a medium coat of sandable primer in your choice of color. 9. Wet sand with 400 wet/dry, do NOT sand thru the first coat of primer, that is why you want a contrasting color so that you know when you are getting close. watch your edges. 10. From this point you have a good base to continue with your favorite prime and paint process. A bleach bottle is the same material and good to practice the process on.

That is why I like gravel. A golf ball will still dent a hood or take out a radiator, and it will be the only one around. There is gravel everywhere, really hard to even find the right stone, and then who is to say it did or did not come off a tire.

How old is the fluid? Have you ever done a clutch and brake fluid change? That is a cheap and easy place to start.

If you get the 5050 led strips to mount inside of the tail light, You can choose the contrast that you want by your choice of resistor. I did a write up somewhere on how to make any LED dual intensity. I'll see if I can find it. edit; Ok I found it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67531 -

With my systems everyone around me becomes one fart smeller after a while. You just cant help it. Hmmmmmmmm........ I never thought of doing these in the tail light. I was looking for plug in bulbs. If you go to the post that I did, (link above) it has instructions on how to do it with dual intensity and brake lights and turn signals. Your choice. Almost any light is simple to make dual intensity. -
Good now we can talk about Big Tom.

Back when I did mine the 5050 LEDs were not invented yet. So I had to use the 3528 as that is all that was available. If I were doing this over, I would use the 5050. There are 2 different trunk setups out there. One is the stock reflector, this is what I have, it is just a reflector with no lights in it at all, It is the one that is glued together with a solvent based glue and heat will not help to get it apart. The other on is an aftermarket one with four 194 bulbs in it, I have not played with one but it is my understanding that this one is held together with hot melt glue. Squid You always want to use a LED that matches the color of the lens. If you use a white LED, It is using energy to generate all of the colors of the spectrum, The lens then filters out all but the red, Since a red LED used all of its energy to make red, it ends up being brighter once it gets thru the red lens. -

How much vacuum for cruise pump?

Now I wonder just how much of this applies to a 1st gen also. -
You must have more civil drivers than we do. Around here, if you hold solid to the left track they will ASSUME you are going to stay there and take the shoulder and the right track to pass. I paid my road taxes, I own a full lane and I use every bit of it. There is no correct track to be in for all circumstances. I am from the weaver mentality. I am constantly back and forth between tracks depending on the circumstance of the moment. If some one is to close, I first flash the break light a few times, If they don't get the hint, I just go slower and slower, as soon as there is a safe place for them to pass, I slow way down so that they will pass. There are some that just have such a severe case of cranial rectal inversion that there is nothing you can do except get off the road. On a 3 lane interstate with no traffic I had a jerk that was traveling at least 15mph faster than me, in the right lane and just glue to my bumper. Speed limit was 65, I changed lanes, he followed, I slowed all the way to 40 and he still stayed right on my bumper till I pulled to the shoulder. and he finally realized that there were2 empty lanes he could pass in. I have thought about carrying some pea gravel in my shirt pocket to flick up over my shoulder. I almost always make left turns from the right track and right turns from the left track or I WILL have some cage sharing MY lane.
