13.5V @ 4K is a little low. Check and clean both ends of all of the wires to the battery and the main fuse and the connectors in and out of the regulator.

Not running well
Flyinfool replied to Tkosanic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have seen liquid electrical tape used successfully as a a temporary repair for a diaphragm if the holes weren't to big. Seafoam and carb clean will not help a small passage that is totally blocked. Only removal and a rebuild will help that. Seafoam is not the same thing as carb clean. Seafoam contains a cleaner, a lubricant, and a gas drier. Start at the beginning. Are you getting gas into the carbs? Open the drain screw to see if there is anything in the float bowl. With the drain open turn on the key, the fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds and gas should come out of the drains. The fuel pump makes a clicking noise when it runs. Mine is pretty quiet so you have to listen for it. -
Curious? What load are you putting on the battery for your load test and still getting 13+ volts under load?

Seafoam is your friend. Add a full can of Seafoam to about a quarter tank of gas. and get it running for 10-15 minutes, shut it off for 24 hours to soak and start it up the next day and once a day till it is drivable take it for a good hard ride till it needs gas. This is the cheap and easy attempt at a fix. If the carbs are really plugged up you will have to pull them and rebuild. Check the diaphragms for pin holes, in the process of checking the diaphragms you can also verify that the sliders are not stuck. If this really sat for 23 years with out being ridden, it will take a lot of TLC to get everything good. You may really want new tires before trying a ride. -
NOOOOooooooo......... The last 3 times I went to EAA show I had my checkbook out of my pocket and in my hand and an airplane ALMOST came home with me. I can not afford to attend that show anymore..... It is about 180 miles from Galena to EAA. There is nothing for hotel or camping space available within 50 miles of EAA. EAA attendees stay as far as 100 miles away.

Here in Wisconsin trailers under 3,000 lbs GVW do not need to get tags. You can get them if you want to, IIRC its $12 / year. I have heard of people with no trailer tags getting hassled in states that do require tags. Not common but if the LEO is having a bad day...... My trailer is not plated and I have pulled it thru states requiring tags with no issues. I would think the first thing to do is to find out if you really want to ship it home.

Caution Caution Caution - Locktite is DANGEROUS around Plastic!!!
Flyinfool replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
As with any chemical, it depends on the plastic. Nail polish is solvent based, different brands have different solvents, ABS is easily melted with many solvents. Test on an inconspicuous spot and dont get carried away with the application. -
Not like I have to tell ya, but don't forget ALL of the ice cream stops....:essen_018: :essen_018:

Caution Caution Caution - Locktite is DANGEROUS around Plastic!!!
Flyinfool replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
The plastic safe Loctite is NOT basically superglue. Superglue will attack most plastics also. When referring to Loctite products you should always refer to the part number. There are dozens of different Loctite thread lockers and only 6 colors. What I normally use is; Red = 263 blue = 243 Green = 290 Most of us use; Red = 262 Blue = 242 Green = ? Many people use one of the 7 different green bearing retainers as a thread locker. The green Loctite 290 is designed to be applied AFTER the parts are assembled. The plastic safe Loctite is # 425 and it is a blue color. I am not sure if it is ABS safe. the Loctite data sheets part of their site is down rite now. I just do not use any thread locker anywhere near ABS. -

Or into left faring. And while you have it out to dry it out, good time to open it up to replace the diodes. -
If it is late July like it was this year that would give you plenty of time to mosey on over.

I guess a big question is about how many people should one have to plan for for the international? That will determine what kind of facility is needed. There were 23 RSVPs, about how many actually showed up this year?

I like that idea. It would end up within riding range of my marshmallow butt...... I do not have the time, knowledge, or expertise to spearhead it but I would certainly be willing to help out whomever did take it on.

I guess I consider taking on a hands free phone the same as talking to a passenger. first it is rare for me to even answer a phone while driving. If I do it is just 1 button push to answer and have it on speaker phone. I then drop the phone in my shirt pocket and can talk hands free as if the person were next to me in the vehicle. I do know some people that can not talk to a passenger and pay attention to the road at the same time. I have different ring tone for those that I might actually want to talk to verses all others, If it ain't the right ring, I don't even look to see who it is. If it is important they will leave a message. If some one died, they will still be dead when I next stop. If they are critically sick, don't call me call 911. I have seen people texting while driving a bike. When on the bike I do not even turn the phone on.

Starter Clutch Mod
Flyinfool replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It is the big gear that is the kicker. If Yami discontinues it, then the starter clutch going will soon become terminal. Dano Maybe while you still have a new one on hand, draw it up with all of the critical dimensions so that some day down the road someone can look into making some up. If you want I can help.
