  1. She figured she had tonnage and was waiting for you to get out of her way. There are a lot of people that really believe tonnage has the right of way.
  2. I think I would do a compression check and pull a valve cover to have a look at the cams and IF both look good, replace the bad parts and run it.
  3. Good to hear that things are looking up. Not all CL jobs are crooks. the big warning signs are all new employes starting at the same time and or you being the only employe. I have found some good temp jobs to supplement my income from CL. just have to be careful.
  4. Shrinking it down and stuffing it all in a nice small box is the easy part, You already did the hard part. I wonder if you could count the vacuum pulses from one of the sensors to get a tach reading??? that way you do not have to tap into the bike electrics anywhere or need an additional input. Like if you are doing a 2nd gen where there ain't no tach. (hey they had to make a tough choice tach or cassette......) Nice job, it looks very interesting. And made for 2 cylinders.
  5. The stock headlight is 55/60 watts, my HID is 35 W for both hi and lo beam. When I have the two 55w driving lights on also the electrical system is just barely keeping up, if I had a stock headlight I don't think it would make it. I am planning to change the driving lights to two 35W HID and also have the upgrade stator and R/R to put in. I want to add a LOT more lights. You could save a lot of power by changing all of the Barons to LED bulbs.
  6. It was just another cruel hoax.....
  7. Around here the trees are not going through the color phase. With the drought we had this summer many trees are just turning brown and dumping the leaves. It will be a weird year for fall colors.
  8. I just had to give a copy of this to a coworker that is a scoutmaster and drives the kids in an old beatup passenger van......... He didn't care for the ending though.....
  9. When you say EACH shock has zero pressure?? Unless you have progressive springs in the front I thought you want some pressure in them.
  10. Your not alone, My in-laws moved to FL because that is what retired folk are supposed to do, it only took 2 years and they moved back to northern WI where the weather is better. They called for a very cold winter with a lot of snow last year and we had one of the the warmest driest winters on record........ Messed me all up, the bike never got put to bed for the winter so none of my planned winter projects ever happened, now I have even more projects for this winter......
  11. I would start by looking for a dirty connection between the R/R and the battery and between the stator and R/R
  12. You are probably lucky that it was a "company" car. Had they just taken off and later got caught it would likely cost them their jobs and pensions in addition to the legal issues of hit and run. I had a similar case where some backed out of a drive and hit a vehicle in my back yard then left, parked in front of my house and went into the bar. Police had no problem issuing tickets and making arrests for hit and run, OWI, Suspended drivers license due to OWIS, and outstanding warrants. Fortunately he had insurance and they paid for every bit of damage and a loner car without any fighting.
  13. Glad your front regained traction.... I am even paranoid of painted lines when it is dry out. Leave it to Illinois to find even more ways to take ya out........
  14. When you do store it, make sure you use Stabil and Seafoam in the gas and that the tank is full right to the very top. You also want to run it long enough to be sure that the treated gas is in the carbs. You want as little air in the tank as possible. If you have jets that are completely blocked, there is no gas additive that will help. Seafoam can only dissolve gunk it can reach. But try the heavy Seafoam treatment to see if it will clear things up.
  15. My Original HID bulb is now 2 years old and works as good as the day it was new. I have now installed 9 HID bulbs between my bike and other vehicles and not a single issue so far. On my truck I went with the "new" 50 watt HIDs and they are noticeably brighter than the 35 watt. The bulb is the same between the 35 and 50 watt, it is the ballast that is different. I am thinking of upgrading the headlight on the bike to 50W HID.
  16. Had my 88 fall in the back yard on wet grass. Wife came in housee and asked why the bike was laying on its side. The side stand had driven a 4" dia pad down into the ground far enough to tip over. Since the side stand did not fold when it fell that meant that I had to lift the bike over the extended side stand, with my feet on wet grass. Yup, butt to seat and walked it right up. Pretended like I layed it down on purpose.......

    help?

Welcome aboard. I just drove thru there on my way home from the weekend. I am about 125 miles from you and I even have a Carbtune. Although I have not done a 2nd gen yet, it is pretty close to the same as a 1st gen.
  18. Woo Hoo, new toys......... Oh drat, another job to do.........
  19. Not some of the gals I know........
  20. Well I thought I would toss in another update. This has been a good week. Sunday My dad went to church for the first time since his fall last December. Because both of my parents were VERY involved with the church almost everyone knew then and of the problems. The priest even came down to welcome dad in the middle of the mass. My mother said it took an hour and a half to get out of the church with all of the well wishers that stopped to talk. She cried a lot over the out pouring of support. But at least these were were not sad tears. Then yesterday my dads golf buddies came to pick him up for the "weekly" golf outing, Dad can not swing a club so they let him think he hit a drive and then dropped a ball near the green to let him chip and putt. Dad had a blast. And it gave my mother a couple of hours rest from taking care of him. His brain will never heal back to where it was before the accident but at least he is starting to get to do some of the things he always loved to do. He won't remember tomorrow that he did it, but at least he had fun doing it.
  21. That is good, per the manual a new friction disc is 3mm (.1181 inch) thick. The wear limit is 2.8mm (.1102 thick) When I checked mine at 40K miles they were .117 thick. If the clutch upgrade (replace half disc with full and heavier spring) was done then it is perfectly normal to have the clutch engage in the very last little bit of travel. The fluid being old can make the clutch do weird things, flush fill and bleed the system.
  22. I also have the Slipstream on my 88 for about 2 years now. It is working fine, I had no issues with anything lining up. The hard coat on the OEM is much more scratch resistant than the Slipstream. I checked every shop I could find on the internet and was not able to locate a new OEM shield. The hard coat on the OEM lasted 24 years so I figured that another will outlive me. I think I paid $90 for my Slipstream including taxes and shipping.
  23. Because your race engine and race carb was designed to run on ethanol. Besides if you manage to get a whole season out of a race engine before it needs a rebuild, you will be happy. I certainly hope to get a lot more than a year out of my daily drivers between major overhauls. I also ran straight ethanol in my stock car. Ya it made good power, but it also destroyed the aluminum parts of the engine including the carb. We had to shut off the fuel pump and feed race gas into the carb to flush out all of the ethanol, at the end of each nights racing just to get some life out of the heads, intakes and carbs.
  24. I always find it scary to go to a dinner with an empty parking lot.....
