  1. I would start by looking for a dirty connection between the R/R and the battery and between the stator and R/R
  2. You are probably lucky that it was a "company" car. Had they just taken off and later got caught it would likely cost them their jobs and pensions in addition to the legal issues of hit and run. I had a similar case where some backed out of a drive and hit a vehicle in my back yard then left, parked in front of my house and went into the bar. Police had no problem issuing tickets and making arrests for hit and run, OWI, Suspended drivers license due to OWIS, and outstanding warrants. Fortunately he had insurance and they paid for every bit of damage and a loner car without any fighting.
  3. Glad your front regained traction.... I am even paranoid of painted lines when it is dry out. Leave it to Illinois to find even more ways to take ya out........
  4. When you do store it, make sure you use Stabil and Seafoam in the gas and that the tank is full right to the very top. You also want to run it long enough to be sure that the treated gas is in the carbs. You want as little air in the tank as possible. If you have jets that are completely blocked, there is no gas additive that will help. Seafoam can only dissolve gunk it can reach. But try the heavy Seafoam treatment to see if it will clear things up.
  5. My Original HID bulb is now 2 years old and works as good as the day it was new. I have now installed 9 HID bulbs between my bike and other vehicles and not a single issue so far. On my truck I went with the "new" 50 watt HIDs and they are noticeably brighter than the 35 watt. The bulb is the same between the 35 and 50 watt, it is the ballast that is different. I am thinking of upgrading the headlight on the bike to 50W HID.
  6. Had my 88 fall in the back yard on wet grass. Wife came in housee and asked why the bike was laying on its side. The side stand had driven a 4" dia pad down into the ground far enough to tip over. Since the side stand did not fold when it fell that meant that I had to lift the bike over the extended side stand, with my feet on wet grass. Yup, butt to seat and walked it right up. Pretended like I layed it down on purpose.......

    help?

Welcome aboard. I just drove thru there on my way home from the weekend. I am about 125 miles from you and I even have a Carbtune. Although I have not done a 2nd gen yet, it is pretty close to the same as a 1st gen.
  8. Woo Hoo, new toys......... Oh drat, another job to do.........
  9. Not some of the gals I know........
  10. Well I thought I would toss in another update. This has been a good week. Sunday My dad went to church for the first time since his fall last December. Because both of my parents were VERY involved with the church almost everyone knew then and of the problems. The priest even came down to welcome dad in the middle of the mass. My mother said it took an hour and a half to get out of the church with all of the well wishers that stopped to talk. She cried a lot over the out pouring of support. But at least these were were not sad tears. Then yesterday my dads golf buddies came to pick him up for the "weekly" golf outing, Dad can not swing a club so they let him think he hit a drive and then dropped a ball near the green to let him chip and putt. Dad had a blast. And it gave my mother a couple of hours rest from taking care of him. His brain will never heal back to where it was before the accident but at least he is starting to get to do some of the things he always loved to do. He won't remember tomorrow that he did it, but at least he had fun doing it.
  11. That is good, per the manual a new friction disc is 3mm (.1181 inch) thick. The wear limit is 2.8mm (.1102 thick) When I checked mine at 40K miles they were .117 thick. If the clutch upgrade (replace half disc with full and heavier spring) was done then it is perfectly normal to have the clutch engage in the very last little bit of travel. The fluid being old can make the clutch do weird things, flush fill and bleed the system.
  12. I also have the Slipstream on my 88 for about 2 years now. It is working fine, I had no issues with anything lining up. The hard coat on the OEM is much more scratch resistant than the Slipstream. I checked every shop I could find on the internet and was not able to locate a new OEM shield. The hard coat on the OEM lasted 24 years so I figured that another will outlive me. I think I paid $90 for my Slipstream including taxes and shipping.
  13. Because your race engine and race carb was designed to run on ethanol. Besides if you manage to get a whole season out of a race engine before it needs a rebuild, you will be happy. I certainly hope to get a lot more than a year out of my daily drivers between major overhauls. I also ran straight ethanol in my stock car. Ya it made good power, but it also destroyed the aluminum parts of the engine including the carb. We had to shut off the fuel pump and feed race gas into the carb to flush out all of the ethanol, at the end of each nights racing just to get some life out of the heads, intakes and carbs.
  14. I always find it scary to go to a dinner with an empty parking lot.....
  15. I still find your endurance capabilities amazing. It don't matter what kind of seat is under me, there is no way my delicate tush can sit on anything that long. I still concider 400 miles in 24 hours an endurance run. Have fun and be safe.
  16. Don't just get a converter, the isolator is not much more and it is far better. The Isolator has only one more wire to hook up than a converter, a fused power lead to the battery. Make sure that whichever one you get is compatible with both incandescent and LED trailer lights. There are some that can only do one or the other.
  17. Can you still put the bike in gear with the engine running? If it was a bad switch the engine would kill as soon as you put it in gear. So if you can still ride with the icon lit, I would think it is something other than the side stand switch.
  18. I also keep a separate account for PP. I can make the transfers online as needed to cover purchases. My bank requires me to keep at least one dollar in the account or they consider it closed. I sure hope I never get to the point that I can not afford to keep a dollar tied up. I get free checking anyhow just cuz I is old.
  19. Sounds like it would have been easier to get a new truck...... ......but not as much fun.
  20. Well I got this email from the seller today. Just hours after eBay contacted him. We shall see.
  21. I didn't think I misread it. The seller does have 99.3% positive feedback with over 16,000 ratings. My guess is that it is someone that is not in the habit of screwing people and values his rating and will end up doing whats right. If he really only has one, I will be happy with a 50% refund, I like this for a center brake light on my trailer. I was gonna put the other one on the bike.
  22. My experience with a train horn is that they figure it out real quick. I don't think that they identify it as a train horn just something is very loud that is really POed at them and they need to correct whatever it is real fast. Because it is so loud they assume it is real close. With one good blast of the train horn everyone has always made the correct instant decision of either stopping or getting out of the way quick. And then they go clean their shorts........ Unless you install a BIG tank AND compressor, all you get is one or maybe 2 short blasts. A train horn uses ~20 CFM of air, that you are feeding from a 1.5 gallon tank. 1.5 gallons is 0.2 cubic feet. Those horns on ebay are pretty loud and of similar tone to a train but are still no comparison to a real train horn. Real train horns start at $750 for a used horn with no air system and go up from there. The spec for a train horn is that it must be a MINIMUM of 120dba at 100 yards. most of these horns we can get are rated at 4 inches. Sound pressure level is cut in half when you double the distance. A Db reading without a distance is a meaningless number.
  23. I sure hope that the eBay buyer protection plan works. I bought these [ame=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221078918507]2 pcs high mount 2 wire RED LED strip 3rd brake light with 28 leds inside each | eBay[/ame] Got it in the mail and thee is only one in the package, Seller claims the auction is for 1 bar but he has 2 available. I read it as the auction is for 2 bars and that is all he has. The seller is also trying to hang his hat on it being advertised "as is no returns". Please take a look at the ad, am I reading it wrong or the seller? I did pay with a CC thru PP and it has eBay buyer protection so I should be covered from something. I do not think the seller really wants a bad feedback over such a small amount.
  24. One other option is to get the hip fixed. I am already a candidate for a new hip, but I haven't finished wearing the OEM hip out yet. I only ride solo so I have less weight to control.
  25. 18psi is pretty high for the front shocks.
