OK, math time. Our engines are 1300 cc, that is 79 cubic inches. I'll call it 80 just to make the math easier to follow. since we have a 4 stroke engine that means that it can only pull in 40 ci per revolution. If red line is set at 8000 rpm that means that the air intake will be 320,000 cubic inches per minute. Since auto carbs are rated in cfm (cubic feet per minute) you have to divide by 1728 to make the conversion. so 320,000 / 1728 = 185 cfm Now all of that math is ASSUMING 100% volumetric efficiency which you will never see on a normally aspirated engine. With the small diameters and sharp bends in that manifold 75% volumetric efficiency would be a good guess. so 75% of 185 is 138 cfm. A 138 cfm carb is what you would want on top of there. Going to big on the carb will really kill the bottom end and adds nothing to the top end. Now on the other hand, If you add a turbo or super charger, then you can get up over 100% volumetric efficiency and be able to make proper use of a much bigger carb. Even that VW carb might be to big for our little motors. There will be a test later.........

You can never have to many lights. I like those heel rests. Who makes those? I have my pegs adjusted so that I can rest my heel on them.

Trouble, nuttin but trouble. Ya, thats what you are, trouble. Ya just had to bring up water heaters. So I go down into the basement to work in my shop, and there is a small damp spot on the floor. I could not tell where it came from. just a damp spot in the middle of the floor. That was just the very beginning. So I started working on stuff. Had to go up stairs to get something and got side tracked by lunch. When I went back in the basement, the whole floor was wet and water was spraying out the bottom of the water heater. The good thing is that I just happened to be there close to when it blew. My basement does NOT have a floor drain. Water would not drain out till it overflows the sanitary tub. At least when I installed the last heater back in 1983 I put shutoff valves on both the hot and cold lines. I do need to make a run to he hardware store tomorrow morning to get the last part I need to finish the hookup.

Unless you add a blower I don't think you could get enough air thru a 650 to make it work. but then maybe a 390 double pumper.......... and a blower........ sounds like trouble to me. OR if you are going to do all of that work. use a throttle body fuel injection.

At least you are moving north.....

Were you running it at idle, in gear, on the stand? My 1st gen clunks like crazy when run in gear on the center stand at idle. The clunking is the individual power pulses from each time a cylinder fires, and it is racking the backlash in the drive train back and forth. Try either taking it for a ride or using the rear brake to put some load on the drive line so that the gears don't rattle. Don't get carried away and burn up the rear brakes. Even just running the engine at a higher speed to get away from the resonant frequency of the drive line might help.

Well at least they blurred out your face........ -
Wuss WHY do you have to wait for it to heat up?

Things will not warm up until we can get Canada to close that drafty door that they left open all winter....... Weatherman said that if Canada does not close the door soon we may see our first summer snowfall. So far June, July and August are the only months that we have not had snow. I for one would like to keep it that way.

If the IT dept is going to keep an unencrypted list of passwords, then what is the point of having a password if others know your password. I worked at a place where IT kept the password list printed out, and hanging on a bulletin board. I finally got them to see the light and eliminate the passwords altogether.

Father in law is in a bad way.
Flyinfool replied to Flyinfool's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
I am sorry to say that Pa passed this morning. There were more complications and he did not have enough strength to pull thru them all. All of his family was with him when he passed. -
My thread?????

My Sisters Father in law went into the hospital for heart surgery 2 weeks ago. The good news is that his heart is doing really well. But during the surgery his blood pressure dropped really low and caused his Liver, kidneys, and lungs to shut down. They had to put in a breathing tube and hook him to a machine to breath and full time dialysis. 2 days ago they thought he was doing better and pulled out the breathing tube. His throat was so swollen that it was restricting his breathing, so they had to do a tracheotomy till the swelling went down. The numbers on his liver and kidneys are also improving. While they were doing the MRIs and CAT scans to check out his liver and kidneys they found a thin spot on his colon. They said it will have to be repaired but he is way too weak for surgery right now. Today that his colon burst so they had to do emergency surgery to remove about half of his colon. He made it thru the surgery but they already said he will be in the hospital for a very long time. He needs all of the prayers and well wishes he can get right now. Thank you for helping.

Cool, now you have to get some LEDs inside of the engine.

http://siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=1794 The diaphragms from JBM and Sirius both do seem to work just fine. The JBM do require permanent alteration of the slider. While this not be an issue now, IF JBM ever goes out of business or stops making these diaphragms, you will be buying new slides to be able to go back to an OEM type setup. The Diaphragms from Sirius are direct OEM replacement with no alterations. IF Sirius ever goes out of business or stops making these diaphragms, it would still be a simple conversion to the JBM diaphragms in the future. On an old bike I do not like to limit my options for future repair parts. Of course this is only my own personal uneducated opinion.

With the sub zeros for the next few days I am starting to worry about the water and sewer lines to my house. they are around 6 feet deep. Many parts of the city have issued running faucet orders. You are required to leave a faucet running with a pencil size stream 24/7 till further notice, to keep the pipes from freezing.

I don't mind winter. I even like SNOW. It does not even bother me that there has only been one weekend this winter that did not have a measurable snowfall. Our longest stretch of days with no snowfall is at 3. But this sub zero cold is getting real old now. We are about to break the record for most sub zero days in a single winter. We have not had a single whole day that the temp did not drop below freezing. We have only had 4 days where the high temp cracked freezing. We are on pace for the 10th coldest winter on record. Records go back to mid 1800s. My heating bills are down rite scarey. But the gas company sure seems to like it. The long range horrorcast is for a lot more cold to come. I sure wish you guys up in Canada would shut your back door so this cold stops flowing on down here. Yes I'm whining. Deal with it......

I would think that Seafoam in the gas would smoke equally out of all pipes also.
