That high voltage on the battery has me cornfused.... I would still get the battery load tested before replacing anything. The high charging voltage may have damaged it and a bad battery can make the RR look bad. I would still go through all of the steps in the charging system test in order to rule out as many issues as possible befe spending money. I have never been one to just throw money at a problem till it goes away. But I have never seen a battery with a failure mode of high voltage.:think:

If the voltage running at 3K rpm is not 14.0 +/-0.5 volts then if it is high, the RR is bad, if its low, then it could be the RR or stator or a bad connection somewhere. There is a thread on how to test the whole charging system and identify the issue. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81297 If the voltage is at 14 V then charge the battery and take it in somewhere to get load tested.

Try another approach. A weak charging system or a bad battery can cause all Kinds of weird things to happen. Put the battery on a charger and fully charge it. Put a good volt meter across the battery. It should read around 12.6 volts. Start the bike, run at ~3,000 rpm. It should be about 14V with the voltmeter across the battery.

How to get loose pieces out of a gas tank

Then you go back to post #5. -
Ouch!

HA! Let me get one built first. I still need to buy the horn and then acquire a new TIG welder to build the aluminum box. I could weld it using my MIG welder (I do already have all of the stuff for welding aluminum) but the welds are not very pretty compared to what can be done with a TIG welder. My first one will most likely be MIG welded, or maybe even bolted and/or riveted.

I'm working on it. http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=shocker-228vx-train-horn-kit There is smoke coming from my poor little cad system and my poor little brain. I have several items up on ebay right now to generate the funds for this project. As long as it is powered thru a relay direct from the battery the power draw is not an issue. Its not like the compressor is always running, it is very intermittent at most. It will plug into my receiver and then also double as a rack to load a small cooler on top of. I also have a receiver mounted to the trailer so I can still have it while towing. It also has an air hose for inflating tires.

The easiest fix is to just get the stronger spring from SkyDoc_17 and a new gasket. You don't even have to drain the oil. The oil will stay in as long as the bike is on the side stand. Many people also change out the half plate to a full plate at the same time. You will have to inspect your plates and steels to see if they need replacing or not.

How to get loose pieces out of a gas tank
Flyinfool replied to stickhandle2's topic in General Tech Talk
What kind of pieces are they, hardware, stones, rust,,,,,,,,? You could try one of those little grabbers used for getting screws out of tight places. http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-2-in-1-pickup-tool-94162.html OR The proper application of high explosives can make any problem go away. -
Even with a new battery these turn over slow when warm. The new battery will help some, only IF it really needs a new battery. Take the battery in to have it load tested. Replacing the factory wires to the starter with 4 AWG welding wire will help some. Doing the ground mod to the starter will help some. Replacing the starter with a newer 4 brush starter will help a lot.

Another Whine
Flyinfool replied to georgew48's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Just out of curiosity. Since so many engine parts are interchangeable between a 1st and 2nd gen motor. Has anyone tried to retrofit a 1st gen basket into a 2nd gen? Or is it that 1st gens are so fast that the whine never catches up to be heard? -
But I love watching them walk straight into a signpost. Next one will be all signposts will need to be padded so no one gets hurt walking into them.

That would work for me. They even have guided tours into the archives and back rooms to see stuff that is not displayed for the public. All it takes is a little more:mo money: So people, pleas start posting up ideas for a date, lets see if we can find a date to accommodate the maximum number of us. September or even early October are still good riding weather. Early October you will get to look at fall colors while getting here and home. Unless of course you are taking the ferry over the lake.......

If you are going to keep this winter thread around during riding season, may you get the snow to justify it.........

I use heat and compressed air to force dry it so that I can get the first coat of primer on as quickly as possible. There are some primers that don't mind a slight surface rust, and some that work even better with a light surface rust. Moisture left behind will still start new rust under the new paint and cause the paint to NOT adhere in the moist areas, and get real ugly real quick.

Flasher Cancelling Unit
Flyinfool replied to CHIHUAHUA's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The stock canceler works on a combination of time and distance. To the flasher will cancel after the signal is on for at least 15 seconds AND the bike must travel 400 feet. Once both of these conditions are met the signal will cancel. To cancel manually, just press straight in on the signal switch on the left handlebar. The switch is spring loaded to the center position so if you try to move it back you will end up signaling the other way. -
A NASCAR driver with that problem may NEED a new pit crew. Toot sweet......
