  1. Do not waste your time or money buying a used stator. Stators do wear out and there is no way to tell how much life is left in them. Just one of the things that you are best off getting a new or rebuilt one.
  2. You MKI owners can correct me but if I remember, there was a mod to add a cooler for the stator on the early bikes. While you have the cover off you will want to check to be sure you have that mod installed. Those that have that year can be more specific as to what to look for. What all readings did you get to determine that the stator was bad? Here is the full test for the charging system. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81297 I think you missed the point on the trans swap. Even though your parts bike has a good 2nd gear. It will still fail even after you go through all the work to swap it it out. I realize that it is good now, but it will fail and you will be doing the trans swap all over again along with all of the time and expense of another gasket set. If you are going to do a trans swap you would be best off getting a trans from an 86 or newer to swap in there. The weak part was fixed in all of the 86 and newer. You can get a trans from all the way up to a 2013 and it will drop in.
  3. So Puc, Where are the pics of the bears?????:confused24:

  5. I have thought about it. But I only got so far as to print out the forms.
  6. Thats why you are ranked so low, stop crashing all of your bikes...... My guess was Wisconsin since it is home of HD and those noise makers seem to be everywhere. At least WI was #4, so I was not to far off.
  7. Hey Puc, this morning at 7:02am I got a sticker just like yours.......
  8. Sooooo........ Head on down to the local sporting goos store and get her a sling shot. Just make sure you are wearing steel underwear.......
  9. Syncing the carbs is very easy, and I'll bet there is someone from this site in your area with the tools. Good excuse for a ride and to meet another rider. Might cost you an ice cream Sunday.
  10. I have found that a heavy dose of Seafoam will reduce gas m,ilage while it is in there. Once you go back to a normal dose the mileage should come back to normal. Hold off on checking the plugs till you have run that heavy dose of Seafoam out. Heavy Seafoam can foul the plugs. Spark plugs are cheap enough that if I am going to go thru the trouble of pulling them to check, I just put in new ones. When was the last time you had the carbs synced?
  11. Happy Birthday Bob from Erika and I
  12. I missed the Sweden part. I have no clue what a good price would be in Sweden.
  13. I don't have enough vacation time. Its 2 days travel each way.
  14. UMMmmmmmm...... It may be very dangerous for a young and impressionable mind like yours to ever come visit me.........
  15. That sounds a little high to me. 6 years ago I bought my 88 with 25K miles for 3500. Kelly Blue book lists an 84 Venture Royal in excellent condition at $1935 suggested retail. It would be closer to a good deal if the 2nd gear issue was repaired. That is a very expensive fix if done by a dealer. That 84 may also have a lot of extras on it to make it worth a little more.
  16. Congrats! My 24 hour record still stands at 470 miles. I am a member of the MBA. (Marshmallow Butt Association.)
  17. I love reading ride reports while they are happening. Keep it up Gramps......
  18. Until you get more familiar with spinning wrenches I would recommend a torque wrench for about everything. As you become more familiar you will get to know the feel of the proper amount to pull on the wrench and need the torque wrench less often. There are a lot of steel bolts into aluminum castings. You would not want to over torque and strip the threads or snap a bolt, or be too loose and have leaks or something important fall apart. Having the torque wrench will come in handy because even seasoned mechanics will still use the torque wrench for critical parts.
  19. AWESOME GIRL!!!! That is a heck of a job you've done. 2 Girls with a combined age of 119! You got your grandma to help??? Now you can teach some of the other old guys on this site that have been afraid to dive in, how its done.
  20. About 3.6 miles YES About 4.3 miles, also under 45MPH. It is 8 miles from my house to Hardly Museum. Can be kept under 45 if we take the scenic route. I know these are a long way for you for a single days ride ........
  21. Now there is a thought........
  22. It would not be the first Yamaha Module that suffered from bad soldering.
  23. Are you still planning to bring Olivia to the M&E at the Hardly Museum? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=87928
