  1. First off welcome to this site. If you get the bike the $12 membership here is the best money you will spend on this bike. It sounds like you might just be in my backyard. I am close enough to be able to check tire pressures on the jets as they are coming in to land at MKE. The manuals are available in PDF on this site. This site is different than most. While we do have a lot of wise guys and hot air, (that is a big part of the fun here) when it comes to getting your question answered there is rarely bad info given by anyone one here. Different folks are better at different aspects of these bikes and will help where they can. the others that have no clue on an issue generally will say nothing. There are a lot of people with a lot of knowledge here. It is impossible to make a list.
  2. Having never heard of the spoons game before, I had to look it up. I can see where furniture could get busted up and paramedics should be standing by. It may even require ATGATT, or at least a helmet.
  3. Well there kind of is a rev limiter, but it is more aptly called valve float......... I usually cruse at right around 4,000 rpm, even if it means running a lower gear. At 75mph there is no problem with dropping to 3rd if you need or want to move out quickly.
  4. Cool While I also love messin with designing electronics, I am no where near your level. But I still love it when a plan comes together.......
  5. How to impress new biker neighbors? When the new neighbor shows up with a brand spanking new Hayabusa. You go for a ride with him and he finds that all of his modern HP will not keep up with a 27 year old bike that weighs twice as much. and then come to find that he thinks a 20 mile ride is a long one. and I thought I had a marshmallow butt........ But in all fairness, it was his first ever bike.......
  6. What do biker geezers do to survive falls.........????? ?????? ??????? Some go out in the shed and tinker with old machinery, make sure the refrigeration system is working up to spec. Loading a fresh batch of white stuff......... and just getting ready.......all falls will end........ Unless of course the old geezers are kept so busy in chat that the old geezer has no time for machinery.....
  7. If what Mike says is good, then this is an upgrade opportunity to a Wolo Bad Boy horn.
  8. Hope your hand heals quickly. With just 12K on the bike the head bearings likely are not bad, but it is very possible that they are out of adjustment.
  9. Today's English lesson Subject: UP........ I'm sure you will enjoy this. A reminder that this one word in the English language that can be a noun, verb, adjective, adverb and preposition. UP Read until the end ..... you'll laugh. This two-letter word in English has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is 'UP.' It is listed in the dictionary as an [adv], [prep], [adj], [n] or [v]. It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election, and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warmUP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and fix UP the old car. At other times, this little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning, but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out, we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, the earth soaks it UP. When it does not rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now . . . my time is UP! Oh . . . one more thing: What is the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night? U P! Did that one crack you UP? Now I'll shut UP!
  10. It really is butt ugly........
  11. I gave ya 49 minutes, how much chance ya want........:rasberry:
  12. There are a few reasons to use an isolator. 1. All of the power that goes to the trailer will not have to come thru the ignition switch. These bikes are known to have a weak ignition switch. It also saves wear and tear on the flasher and brake light switches. 2. If there should be an issue with the trailer wiring it can not cause the bikes lighting to also fail. This is more of an issue with boat trailers, especially ones that go into salt water. 3. You can run as many lights of any type on the trailer as you wish, without having any adverse effect on the bike, such as fast or slow blinking of turn signals, or overloading lighting circuits and blowing a fuse. Is an isolator absolutely necessary? No. Many people run without one successfully. But it is recomended.
  13. My chainsaw had no OEM fuel filter. I ended up cleaning a bunch of crud out of the carb. There is a fuel pump built into the carb, it is a diaphragm and two small flapper valves. This is not the same thing as the pump bulb for priming the carb. Any crud in either of the flapper valves will prevent it from pumping fuel. If the pump is not pumping then it will just burn off the prime from the bulb pump. In a chainsaw there is a lot of sawdust around that can get in there. Mine now has a fuel filter. I have also seen the gas line get hard with age. If this happens then the pickup will not be free to flop around and follow the gas as you move the saw into various positions.
  14. I have a Monster Springer Spaniel and a 150 gallon aquarium. Molly the dog is 80 lbs and 24 inches at the shoulder, this is absolutely HUGE for a Springer. Breed standard is 45 lbs and 16 inches at the shoulder. Molly finds my buddies macaw just fascinating, she will stare at that bird in its cage for hours........ The aquarium is 72 long x 30 high x 18 wide.
  15. Well tonight is a Packer game so while I may be in chat, I may also be slightly preoccupied. Unless it is a blowout good or bad. It is just hard to predict which Packer team is going to show up.........
  16. At least they have had some time to straighten things out in Chicago after the fire. Enjoy your trip, I'm looking forward to the reports of your exploits.
  17. FWIW Sylvania just lost a class action for false claims on the Silverstar and Silverstar Ultra bulbs. I am waiting for my check in the mail....... http://www.bigclassaction.com/settlement/30m-preliminary-settlement-approved-in-sylvania.php
  18. First off there are no fiberglass panels on a first gen, they are all ABS plastic. This is actually a good thing, ABS is easier to repair than fiberglass. I have had great results using some ABS sheet from the hobby shop and scraps from where I work, to replace missing parts and putting it all together with pipe cement from the hardware store. If an area cracked once I put a piece of fiberglass cloth over the crack on the back side to reinforce the area. The cloth is applied using the same pipe cement. I have never had a repair fail.
  19. As Yammer suggested, clean the bulb before installing. Just because you did not touch the bulb does not mean that a person packaging it at the factory did not get a finger on it. Even if all you have is a clean dry cloth to wipe it with it is still better than nothing. Ideal is some alcohol, even rubbing alcohol would help and it is cheap. You can go to the pharmacy section and get alcohol moistened wipes (these are a good thing to have in your first aid kit anyhow). The only thing that could cause a power surge is a RR that is getting ready to fail. Odds are that if was the RR letting a high voltage spike through you would also have other bulbs and/or fuses blown. Turning on a switch or a bad connection will not cause an increase in volts to blow a bulb. And as mentioned it is entirely possible that you got a brand new bad bulb. I have had 2 new bad halogen bulbs in my lifetime.
  20. According to the ad, there are ten 7 watt LEDs per bulb. That means that each Bulb will pull 70 Watts! That is a LOT more than the halogens that are in there now. Most likely the halogens are either 35 or 50 watt each. Between the high power draw and the likely beam focus issues, I would find something else.
  21. No basement runs tonight. But then no me either. IF I get on tonight it will not be till nearly 10pm when I get home.
  22. I'm not sure, but this thing might even almost keep up with a 1st gen.....
  23. WOW You almost paid for a new engine with all of the parts you tried.
