I love airplanes, but that lil puppy is from before my time. -
I just know that Yama Mama is hoping that the upgrade will bring her whips back to chat. I will deal with whatever changes there are, I may whine for a while, but I'll get used to it. But black and orange????????

Removing TCI....HELP
Flyinfool replied to Patmac6075's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My screws were already stripped out by PO. I used a hack saw blade and cut off the mounting ears. I was able to get the blade in there from the top. The mounting ears are only in the way for the relocation anyhow. -
Well at least Ice cream is not off the menu. After meeting with the last Dr., the top half of my heart is not doing its thing. It is not dead like it would be in a heart attack, it just aint doing nuttin, just sittin there on top and going along for the ride. Well it is the top half that tells the bottom half when to beat. so now the bottom half is not sure just when it is supposed to beat so it kind of just does a random thing. Docs are hoping that the right drug will encourage the top half to start doing its thing again. Problem is there is a lot of drugs that might work, so it will be trial and error to find the right one and the right dosage. So for a while now the plan is to try something and every couple days back to the cardiologist to see if it helped. Hopefully they find the right one before one of the really BAD scenarios plays out. I am still in some disbelief because I never had any hint of chest pain or other heart related symptoms, in other words I feel fine, and I am still trying to wrap my head around this and some of the realistic scenarios. Before I was scared, now I am terrified......... Even I am having a hard time coming up with smart ass comments about this.......

Hang in there. My father went thru this a few years ago. They were ready to pull the plug. He did not recognize any family members. he is now able to drive and living a fairly normal life. There is just a 2 year span that he has no recollection of.

Well I got a big chunk of steel now sitting in the basement........ Now for some cutting and welding........ .......If I can ever get back down there.......
-
Does that mean that your MD is officially back for 2015?

I recommend dynamite. The proper application of an adequate amount of high explosives can make any problem go away.

Well just got back from the cardiologist. They are still looking for a heart....... But I do glow in the dark now. More fun. I get to see another doc in the morning after the cardiologist is done reviewing my tests. The only good thing they said was that I have no sign of blockages of any kind. They must have found out I have insurance......

Nice find. And a mini vacation to boot. -
According to a local news story; That is one of the most often stolen vehicles. Simply because it is easy to do. It is usually recovered shortly after it runs out of gas and is abandoned by the teens that took it for a joy ride. Then they go steal another one till it runs out of gas. If the police spot them and give chase, they will run till they wreck. I hope it comes back in one piece in a couple of days. You may want to think of some extra security for the other one.......

Well this just gets to be more and more fun. Yesterday I went in for the pre op testing. I guess I shoulda studied better for those tests. It seems that they had a hard time finding a heart in this heartless old fart. So for now the Friday surgery to put Humpty back together is canceled and tomorrow I get to go and visit with a cardiologist to see if he can find any sign of a heart in me........ Yes it is getting scary now......

Not on the bike, just me. Again. Friday is a trip to the OR to have DRs and nurses try to put me back together again. Now I will be home for a few weeks so I can be on here and in chat causing trouble while in a well medicated state.......

2nd gen clutch vs. 1st gen interchange ???
Flyinfool replied to Peder_y2k's topic in General Tech Talk
But with all of the talk of the famous 2nd gen whine that seems to come from the clutch basket, are you sure you want to even try it?? -
I had the exact same symptoms on my 1st gen. After a lot of searching I found 3 things that could have been the culprit. One was a bad kill switch. one was a corroded ground connection. and the other was a bad factor crimp of a wire, I found that one during a wiggle test when the power wire to the ignition came out of the contact in the connector shell. Since I fixed all of them at the same time I do not know which one was guilty. It can be a lot of things that can cause your symptoms. If it was fuel related it would not be a hard shut off and back on. Fuel problems would act like it was running out of gas, not a hard shut off. So I believe you have the dreaded intermittent electrical problem. If you can not find an issue by inspecting things then you might need to hook up some cheater LEDs to help you identify the part of the circuit that is causing your problem.

Don, my first thought was to say guzuntight. It seems that you have sneezed and splashed php and sql all over the place...... I know you did a poll a while back and the vast majority of us liked the site the way it is, myself included. But some change is inevitable. Just do what you have to do and we will all learn to deal with it. Besides we are like a plague, you can't get rid of us that easy..... We really do all appreciate what you sacrifice for us.

NOPE!!!! In this case you are exactly correct. But I would still make the new cord a 10 gauge. A 12 ga 100 foot cord at 14 amps will cause a 5.5 volt drop. a 10 ga 100 foot cord at 14 amps will cause a 3.5 volt drop. It is recommended to never lose more than 3% of your voltage due to wire length. You are well past that. As mentioned, keep a close eye on motor temp, and keep the chain sharp, and go easy.

Close. PMS = Parked Motorcycle Syndrome. It can happen at any time, not just in the off season.

:sign yeah that: Please do thank your son in law for his service. If you can find it, store it with a full tank of ethanol free gas. The ethanol stores much better. Around here you can find some stations that sell ethanol free but only in premium. You can use either Stabil or Seafoam to treat the gas for storage, they both work well. when the bike is on the center stand there is so little weight on the front tire that it will not matter if it is on the ground. almost all of the bikes weight is on the stand. Hook up a battery tender or battery maintainer, not the same thing as a trickle charger. A trickle charger will destroy the battery over that time. Put rags or steel wool into the exhaust to keep mice and other critters out. Don't forget to remove it before starting. I do not know if it would help to toss a couple of moth balls into the fairing to keep mice from eating the insulation off the wires. I do NOT know if there are any interaction issues between moth balls and the ABS of the faring. Someone else might chime in here. Do an oil change so that there are no corrosive combustion byproducts sitting in the engine. It may help to cover the bike with a blanket or something that can breath. Check the anti freeze, air up the tires, wipe the tear from your cheek and walk away:crying:. 9-12 months is not much longer than a normal winter up north.......

When I am riding all of the little voices in my head that seem to always be screaming for my attention seem to relax, sit back and enjoy the ride along with me. I am so much calmer and relaxed right after getting off of the bike. Even just the 21 mile commute to and from work. My girl has noticed it my boss and coworkers have noticed it, and others that know me well have noticed it. They all say that we are coming into the scary season, and that is not Halloween. Its the PMS season that will be setting in soon.

Starter quit
Flyinfool replied to mralex714's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes it is. But that connection can get corrosion in it and be making a poor connection. -
The only thing that might be an issue is title and registration. Some states require it some don't. If Ohio requires it make sure it has a title or know what you need to do to get one.

The thing with starting a stored engine. I you are going to start it you need to get it out and drive it to get everything fully warmed up. If you don't, you are doing the engine and trans more harm than good. The harm comes from not fully warming everything up. When not fully warmed up you will get condensation of water inside of the engine as it cools down. This condensation will cause rust damage to gears and bearings. Just letting it idle for a half hour will warm up the engine, but still does not heat up the oil and parts in the transmission.

Go for it. Stretching the tongue if necessary is easy enough. He might even take less if you are standing in front of him with cash in hand.

There are 2 ways to get the cover off. 1. Desolder all of the connector pins. This runs a high risk of damaging the runs on the old fragile board. 2. Use a thin saw to cut thru the cover just behind the connectors. Be careful to not cut into any components. This is the method that I used. when putting it back together seal up the saw cut with RTV. Yes, but if is the TCI causing the problem it is not repairable. Sorry, I am no help here. Odds are it is a dirty hi / lo switch. It is easy to disassemble to clean the contacts. I have to do this every other year.
