  1. How destroyed is your old one? F4 Custom was looking for a 1st gen donor shield to get dimensions to manufacture a new shield for the first gens. I would love to have an F4 on my 1st gen.
  2. It is somewhat obvious, I love things that fly. I started flying model airplanes when I was 8 years old. I started out with the original sleek streak balsa model with the rubber band that you wind up. Then for Christmas one year my god father gave me a little nitro powered car with an .049 engine in it. It was one that you held on to a string and it went round and round in a circle till it ran out of gas. It did not take real long for that to loose its excitement. A couple of years later, I was at the local hobby shop with the car to inquire about what would be involved with converting that car engine into an airplane engine. While I was there talking to them about it, a nice "old" (to a 10 years old anyone that drives is old) man was listening in and offered to help me out. Ahhhhh it was a different time back then. I had no issue jumping in the car with a total stranger and going to his house who knows where. He converted that engine from a car engine to an airplane engine and then took me back to the hobby shop, where he showed me an appropriate airplane to start out with and gave me directions to the place where he and others were flying these airplanes. I built that airplane, and loaded everything up on my bike and peddled the 10 miles to where they were flying. That was all it took, the hook was set and 50 years later I still have not even loosed that hook a little. About 8 years ago my darned kids, for a birthday, bought me an introductory flight in a real airplane. Dang kids, a few thousand dollars later I had my private pilots license to be able to fly the real thing. Did I ever mention that I like things that fly..........I have been told many times that I have spent foolish amounts of money over the years on toy airplanes, but I did and do have a lot of fun with them. My flying style does seem a little reckless to some, but then some of my airplanes are very old. Hence the fool half of the name.
  3. The lock symbol just means that they are locked to new postings. You can still read them, you just can not post to them.
  4. Since it is not in your "immediate" future, Does that mean that Eileen has to wait until Christmas for hers?
  5. Our custom is to get the whole family together. The food is whatever the host decides to make. The host also tells the rest of us what to bring to share to lighten the workload on the host. I am usually ordered to bring rum balls....... There are 5 kids in the family. We take turns hosting the various holidays. You never know what we will have, Spaghetti and meatballs, ham and spuds, turkey, steak, could be anything, the important part of the day is family being together together, not the meal or even the presents.
  6. WOW, Dredged up an 7+ year old political post......... And the worst thing is, it is still relevant today......... We must have learned nothing in the last 7 years.......
  7. I don't think that helps with an 84 on up. it is only for the 83. I think that the 41R relay will need a different solution.
  8. Well I started cutting and welding, But some dummy welded one of the brackets on upside down. Now for some MORE cutting and welding........... Must be the drugs............
  9. The easiest way to accomplish your task is to add a 3.3 ohm, 50W resistor to the left and right flasher circuit. then no mods to the flasher / canceler / starter relay. The load resistors that you buy for this purpose are 6 ohm and you need 4 of them, the 3.3 ohm you only need one for each side. You can install them thru the front turn signal openings so there is minimal disassembly required. That is what I did in this thread; http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?77042-MORE-lights
  10. Couple of things. (the 83 might be different) 1. If you put in an after market flasher you will lose the self canceling feature of the turn signals since that is part of the stock flasher. 2. The starter relay is built into the stock flasher unit. You will have to cut the wires that are not part of the starter circuit and wire them to your new flasher. There is no significant power savings with running LED turn signals since they are actually on very little time. It is much easier to run the load resistor for the turn signals only and keep the rest of the bike stock. I do not know which LED flasher would work best with a 1st gen. It is on my to do list to someday figure out a way to have an LED flasher and still keep the self canceling feature and the starter relay.
  11. If the cup failed it is likely due to a pitted bore. If the bore is pitted enough to be leaking you will most likely be looking for a new master. I do not see how the clutch issue could cause it to jump out of 1st gear. If anything, clutch issues make it hard to get out of first and into neutral.
  12. NUMBER 1 If fluid is running out of the master, that is brake fluid. It will destroy all paint and plastic that it touches. Is the master over filled and over flowing, can you see the level in the sight glass? Can he tell where it is coming out of the master? Loose hose connection? Out the top? out by the handle end?

    Battery

Batteries need to be snowed on once in a while to work properly. Yup the Carma train is coming to get you.......... I am still on my first AGM battery, it is only 2 years old. My Yuasa lasted 6 years, and I do not put on a charger or maintainer or even take it out of the bike for the winter. It will see temps lower than -20F during the winter. It has always started in the spring.
  14. If you gave it a spritz of starting fluid and got nothing. then it is not a fuel issue either. it should have at least sputtered on the stating fluid. Get those plugs out and have a look, they may just be that bad, these bikes are very sensitive to having good plugs. Often even plugs that still look good and look clean will not run well.
  15. Yes my Tree is decorated, with lots of fresh metal chips, I'll try to take pics tonight.
  16. Not that just sounds like a challenge............ You know how I love a challenge............ Green is a nasty color, Broccli is green, mold is green, a bad cold is green............. White is the color of purity......... Christmas should have pure thoughts........... Ya Puc, you just keep .......... I'm is workin on a special treat just for you........ Back to my cuttin and weldin.
  17. I may aim for the Baja Peninsula........ and there is always fall out along the entire trajectory......... Snow on a cactus is so pretty..........
  18. My favorite ice cream is butter pecan..........
  19. Get ready, Doc said I'M BAAAACK........
  20. OK the doc has finally cleared me to get back to doing fun stuff. I hope you all enjoyed the reprieve while I was away. I am now designing a new machine, bigger, better, faster, and stronger than the old one. There is smoke coming off of the mouse on my CAD machine. Chips are already flying on the milling machine and the lathe. Parts are coming together nicely. Lots of cutting and welding yet to do. Then comes the test and calibration......... :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: OH you can Thank ol Puc. He gave me a lot of the new ideas that I am incorporating............
  21. Time for an update. Went to see the cardiologist again today. The meds seem to be working and the lazy half of my heart has restarted. There is still a bit of a miss in there but for the most part it is now back to running on all four cylinders. The doc adjusted the meds just like a fine tuner would tweak the carbs to get an engine running nice and smooth. The doc and I are both very optimistic that this last tweak will do the trick. It just means that I will be having one meal a day The doc also wrote me a prescription for an ECG machine to keep handy so I can monitor my condition. AND this is the third Doc in a row that has said I have the heart and metabolism of an elite athlete. I wish to thank all of you that have kept me in your thoughts and prayers. Now that we have this pretty much under control I can get back to doing things that are more fun.
  22. I got an email that you are causing trouble again. The email said that you have nominated me for an award just for putting up with all of the trouble that you cause. I'll have you know that MY middle name is Trouble. AND I don't always share well........well some things anyhow....... First you accuse me of being responsible for all of the wonderful winter weather and lovely snowfalls suitable for a Christmas card that anyone in North America gets , Then you try to steal my name. Now I have to find more, and more creative ways to cause Trouble just to be able to keep my name for myself. If you came into chat more often you would see that even the chat system often recognizes me as the one and only Trouble. Maybe I'll see if I kin make FOG. Ya that'll work for starters.......... I just have to let some of the fog that normally resides between my ears escape out into the world........
  23. When I look at my own page or the Venture page I do not see myself listed as a member and I can not get into the page to look at anything. OR I am just all messed up and doing something wrong and not understanding FB.
  24. By the time you get done destroying things to find your balls of steel in the perfect size, you could just order the right size from McMaster and be done with it and save both time and money. AND still have balls of steel for another day. I have many bags of stuff hanging around the shop from buying 100 of something and need 1 or 2.
  25. I tried to join but was refused.......
