LED Flasher Part Number/source
Flyinfool replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The easiest way to accomplish your task is to add a 3.3 ohm, 50W resistor to the left and right flasher circuit. then no mods to the flasher / canceler / starter relay. The load resistors that you buy for this purpose are 6 ohm and you need 4 of them, the 3.3 ohm you only need one for each side. You can install them thru the front turn signal openings so there is minimal disassembly required. That is what I did in this thread; http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?77042-MORE-lights -
LED Flasher Part Number/source
Flyinfool replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Couple of things. (the 83 might be different) 1. If you put in an after market flasher you will lose the self canceling feature of the turn signals since that is part of the stock flasher. 2. The starter relay is built into the stock flasher unit. You will have to cut the wires that are not part of the starter circuit and wire them to your new flasher. There is no significant power savings with running LED turn signals since they are actually on very little time. It is much easier to run the load resistor for the turn signals only and keep the rest of the bike stock. I do not know which LED flasher would work best with a 1st gen. It is on my to do list to someday figure out a way to have an LED flasher and still keep the self canceling feature and the starter relay. -
96 RSA tranny

If the cup failed it is likely due to a pitted bore. If the bore is pitted enough to be leaking you will most likely be looking for a new master. I do not see how the clutch issue could cause it to jump out of 1st gear. If anything, clutch issues make it hard to get out of first and into neutral. -

NUMBER 1 If fluid is running out of the master, that is brake fluid. It will destroy all paint and plastic that it touches. Is the master over filled and over flowing, can you see the level in the sight glass? Can he tell where it is coming out of the master? Loose hose connection? Out the top? out by the handle end? -
Batteries need to be snowed on once in a while to work properly. Yup the Carma train is coming to get you.......... I am still on my first AGM battery, it is only 2 years old. My Yuasa lasted 6 years, and I do not put on a charger or maintainer or even take it out of the bike for the winter. It will see temps lower than -20F during the winter. It has always started in the spring.

If you gave it a spritz of starting fluid and got nothing. then it is not a fuel issue either. it should have at least sputtered on the stating fluid. Get those plugs out and have a look, they may just be that bad, these bikes are very sensitive to having good plugs. Often even plugs that still look good and look clean will not run well.

OK the doc has finally cleared me to get back to doing fun stuff. I hope you all enjoyed the reprieve while I was away. I am now designing a new machine, bigger, better, faster, and stronger than the old one. There is smoke coming off of the mouse on my CAD machine. Chips are already flying on the milling machine and the lathe. Parts are coming together nicely. Lots of cutting and welding yet to do. Then comes the test and calibration......... :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: :snow2: OH you can Thank ol Puc. He gave me a lot of the new ideas that I am incorporating............

Time for an update. Went to see the cardiologist again today. The meds seem to be working and the lazy half of my heart has restarted. There is still a bit of a miss in there but for the most part it is now back to running on all four cylinders. The doc adjusted the meds just like a fine tuner would tweak the carbs to get an engine running nice and smooth. The doc and I are both very optimistic that this last tweak will do the trick. It just means that I will be having one meal a day The doc also wrote me a prescription for an ECG machine to keep handy so I can monitor my condition. AND this is the third Doc in a row that has said I have the heart and metabolism of an elite athlete. I wish to thank all of you that have kept me in your thoughts and prayers. Now that we have this pretty much under control I can get back to doing things that are more fun.

I got an email that you are causing trouble again. The email said that you have nominated me for an award just for putting up with all of the trouble that you cause. I'll have you know that MY middle name is Trouble. AND I don't always share well........well some things anyhow....... First you accuse me of being responsible for all of the wonderful winter weather and lovely snowfalls suitable for a Christmas card that anyone in North America gets , Then you try to steal my name. Now I have to find more, and more creative ways to cause Trouble just to be able to keep my name for myself. If you came into chat more often you would see that even the chat system often recognizes me as the one and only Trouble. Maybe I'll see if I kin make FOG. Ya that'll work for starters.......... I just have to let some of the fog that normally resides between my ears escape out into the world........

When I look at my own page or the Venture page I do not see myself listed as a member and I can not get into the page to look at anything. OR I am just all messed up and doing something wrong and not understanding FB.

By the time you get done destroying things to find your balls of steel in the perfect size, you could just order the right size from McMaster and be done with it and save both time and money. AND still have balls of steel for another day. I have many bags of stuff hanging around the shop from buying 100 of something and need 1 or 2.

How do you jack up your Gen 1s?
Flyinfool replied to BlueSky's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Your garage is carpeted? That looks like better carpet than I have in my living room. -
Yup Bob needs more coffee........ It depends. If you converted to LED headlight, some (not all) of the LED headlights draw as much or more power than the stock headlight, so no jumpering or other changes need to be made, IF you are installing one of the high power LEDs in the headlight. IF you are installing a lower power LED in the headlight, then you will need to jumper the CMU and remove the RLU to get proper operation. If you convert the running and/or brake lights to LED, the running and brake light sensors will need to be jumped in the CMU if you do not want it to be continuously telling you that you have a bulb out. The whole load resistor thing is to get the turn signals to flash at the correct speed when the turn signals are upgraded to LED.

You can get your steel balls here. McMaster-Carr They are 9/64 Dia or .1406 Dia. Yes you will get a bag of 100, but it is only $3.75. AND you will be able to say forevermore that you to have balls of steel in your bag.

Charging system not working
Flyinfool replied to rougeray's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The only way to test the battery is a load test. Almost all auto parts stores will test it for free. When you did the voltage test of the stator, did you do the test while it was plugged into the RR or with the stator unplugged? The stator voltage test need to be done while unplugged from the stator. the only thing connected to the stator for the test should be the voltmeter. -
I have balls of steel but they are a lot bigger than what you need. I have a whole bag at .750 dia.
