  1. I started packing today. Since I am caging it I can bring a lot more stuff.
  2. If water intrusion is an issue, then use what is called "Double Wall" or "Adhesive Lined" (depending on whom you are talking to) shrink tubing. This is shrink tubing that has a coating of hot melt glue on the inside so that the glue melts as the tube is shrinking and completely seals the connection water and air tight. IF you ever need to take the joint apart you can still get it off and the hot melt glue will not contaminate future soldering of the joint. Noting like using the right stuff that is specifically made for the job at hand.
  3. Interesting, But they can keep the lumber, Wood outdoors does not age well, and I wold not want to have to refinish it every couple years. The exkaust on there does look very prototypeish. The welds even still have the heat bluing on them. It needs a trunk.
  4. I will gladly step outside with you, you first........You aint gettin between me and food, and surviving!!!!! A real old one.......
  5. Hole
  6. Looks like Greek to me......
  7. It would only bother me terribly if the holes or modifications were visible and unsightly. Or you could go into @cowpuc mode and just put a sticker over it.
  8. And then you to can drive off the end of a bridge in Milwaukee that is headed north and land in Chicago.
  9. IF you end up having to pull the valve covers back off. Examine the gasket grove very closely. I found a couple of imperfections cast into the groove of the valve covers that I was able to smooth out and hoping for a better seal. If that don't work I'll get some Harley badges to put on it......
  10. I think you both should come to Freebirds MD next weekend. It would be a nice ride, and you can see first hand many of the mods you have read about. And even better yet meet some of us other knuckleheads.
  11. Might be a little of both. Some of it is getting used to the geometry of the bike and it handling. Some might be the things mentioned above. A @Condor brace also helps a lot with the handling.
  12. Did he have camping gear? Did he know how to work a weed eater......? Curious minds need to know.......
  13. Puc just leave for MD now and take the long way there. Like via North Dakota? or Wyoming?
  14. Sometimes the year can sneak up on you. I have had many tell me that my 88 Standard does not exist, 87 was the last year of the Standard, I offer to let them look at the VIN plate. The manufacture date is early September, there may have been a few that did not make it out of the factory at the end of the 87 run so they just got an 88 VIN slapped on them and out they went. It might be possible that is the case with the 07 vs 08? OR he just has no clue what year his V-twin is....... Would it have been mean to offer to count spark plugs or exhaust pipes with him........
  15. I thought one of you more local to him might know him. At least Saturday will be nice day for a ride.
  16. I am 6' 0" but with a 30 inseam. I started out with a little Honda 200, then to a Yami XS650, then to a Kaw KZ750 with wind jammer and full luggage. Then I took 25 years off from riding a bike and jumped back in with the 88 Standard that I have now. Even after the 25 years off and never having this big of a bike. Picked it up at a dealer and within 2 miles was on the interstate to ride home. After a couple days in a parking lot near home to get used to how it felt, I was good to go. As long as you are sencible there should be no problem learning the heavier bike. THE big thing to remember is that if it starts to go down, do NOT stick your foot out like you did on a dirt bike, 900 lbs will break your leg, just let the crash bars do there job and try to pick it up quick before any one sees you.
  17. Just cuz...... When I try to help someone and they say I am wrong, I tend to just sit back and watch. I could be wrong, I was once, and I often learn something.
  18. Maybe someone should give @billmac a call TONIGHT???? Any of you Michigan boys still awake?
  19. If you had read the instructions for a woman you would not be married......... You would still be reading.........
  20. I just finished doing my valve shims over the weekend with 55K miles on the bike. Not a single valve was in spec. And there were a couple that were down to about 0.001. It did not have another season left in it. My valves are now all right on the high limit, I only had to make 3 custom thickness shims to get it all perfect. My vibration at 3,500 rpm is now gone.
  21. 7mm Rem Mag is my round of choice in trying to keep the roads free of deer. I could put that to very good use. I even have a can of powder and a box of 7mm 140g Ballistic Tip bullets just looking for a home.
  22. You have that all bassackwards. You put 2nd gen parts onto a 1st get to slow the first gens down so that we do not eat all of the ice cream before you can catch up.......
