  1. The tamper resistant torx bit is available at Harbor Freight. When You put it back together do not reinstall the tamper resistant screw, You can get a new set of screws at most any hardware store and not have to deal with tamper resistant again. If the slides move easily but do not move with engine running, then the first place to look is at the diaphragms. Hopefully they just were not on all the way and slipped out of the groove. The slides should not move slowly in and out with the throttle, they should be dancing in there. I would pull and check all 4 diaphragms. I never tried, but is it possible to have the diaphragms installed inside out?
  2. Ain't much of nuttin but fish and wet twixt Puc and I. Your actually west of me. So you only have to worry if Puc comes and messes with the aiming controls again while trying to sabotage things when I aint lookin, then you might get what was intended for that old snow fearin Puc.
  3. It is all steel, My guess is it bent right at the weld, that would be the weak spot and location of the stress riser. The tubing is .090 inch wall, that tab is .250 inch thick plate. If it is bent in the weld, welds crack easy from bending. But we can guess all we want, once we see the bend It will be easier to determine if it is safe to attempt repair.
  4. That was before I knew better. AND that is why I said it had BIG issues towing........Once in a while I did manage to stay in my lane for a few yards........
  5. The 2 sides are mirror image, Yes they should be symmetrical. I do not think you would even want to try to straighten it out. Watch ebay, there are some smart asses that try to sell hitches piecemeal. Great for you bad for them. Had one got really POed at me cuz I just bought the one piece I needed and left him with an incomplete hitch he could not sell. He listed all the parts separate so that he would get more money with his expensive shipping.
  6. What they said, pretty normal for a big drop at idle. As mentioned check the stator wires, that connector has been know to get hot enough to melt. if it did just eliminate it and solder the connections together. Also check the battery connections, and ground connections, clean them even if they look clean already. Using a digital voltmeter check the voltage across the battery. should be 12.6 volts with the bike turned off, and 14 volts over 2000 rpm. The voltage will be less idling with everything turned on, the alternator just is not spinning fast enough to meet the demand at idle.
  7. that mounting tab on the hitch sure looks bent in that first pic, and the direction it looks bent in would make the front hole not line up with the muffler mounting bolt. Can you take some pics with the hitch off the bike?
  8. You heard it hear first, Puc wants MORE snow balls. Its that time of year to start planning for the upcoming seasons.
  9. Was that a 2nd gen that was allowed to pull away from Tweeks like that. What a disgrace to the breed........
  10. Interesting stuff on sway control. After looking at the links, the only WD hitch I have ever used is an Equalizer. Only because it came with the new to me camper. If it weren't for the reduced rear visibility I could forget that there was a 6000 lb trailer back there. But then I also never had WD or sway control on a "real" trailer and never had any issue towing that either. The only trailer I did have issues with was a homemade trailer that had some serious geometry issues. a 4000 lb trailer with about 20 lbs tongue weight, and a very short tongue at that. I could lift it on and off the ball with one hand no problem. Yes it had BIG issues towing.
  11. Nice pics Thanks
  12. You mean this one?
  13. Or hide it behind your receiver hitch.......
  14. I feel like it is early April again........ But I like it.
  15. First off, welcome to the funny farm. There is a battery sensor that monitors acid level in the battery, Many newer batteries do not have a port to put this sensor in. Your choices are to live with the warning, or install a resistor in the sensor wire to turn off the warning. The temp gauge normally rests just on the edge of the red. It is not overheating until it gets well into the red. The 83 does not have the louvers in the side panels, just a hole where you can see the engine. If you cover that hole with some thing it will do a lot to keep the heat off of you. Some people have made clear acrylic panels others use polished stainless steel. For testing you could even tape some paperboard over the hole.
  16. Interesting, I have yet to see in person a toy hauler bumper tow with a front garage. I would think that parking an 800+lb toy up front would mess with the tongue weight just as much. The only configuration where an 800+lb toy would not mess with the tongue weight is to have the garage over the axle.
  17. I have a small toy hauler on my wish list. Something under 20 feet in a bumper pull. I guess weight distribution of the trailer is something that I had not thought of in a toy hauler until just now. If you have the correct tongue weight with a 800+lb toy in the back how high does the tongue weight go if the toy is not back there. Is there a way to shift significant weight to get the balance back in the correct place? Same would hold true in a front garage.
  18. You need to be more patient. It will be a while yet before the tickets are going to drawn at the 2915 rally.
  19. AND anything you may have moved to a saved folder also counts against that 200.
  20. Was your bike bad? Making it stand there with its nose in a corner....... Keep the pics coming. I'm so screwed up i did not even notice they were twisted.
  21. Yup, change them out to Hex socket head Stainless screws. Future life will be better. Most hardware stores will have them.
  22. Running more like a Roldex watch......
  23. Just for giggles I called them up today to see if there was any way to talk them into doing another production run. They said the they have disposed of the molds to make these back in 2007. The lenses that they have in stock are just leftovers from 2007. When they are gone there will never be more.
  24. There is the @Condor brace or Super Brace to stabilize the front end. But it has nothing to do with the spring change.
