Valve clearance is kind of like Russian roulette with the engine. Many need no adjustment at the first check, but there are some that do need an adjustment. Do you feel lucky? Even if you open it up and all is good you at least have the peace of mind to know it is good for the next 27K miles. The valve clearance gets tighter with wear, once it gets to zero the valve does not close and burns up. As for the odd 26,700 that is the conversion from 43,000 KM.

WOW You got more color down there than I do up here. But for my trip this weekend it should be peak colors most of the trip.

Sounds like fun. Are the colors getting near peak that far south? We are no where near peak hear in SE Wisconsin. I am heading north to upper Michigan to see some color this weekend.

I got lucky in that mine finally let go after a lot of wiggling. Make lubing those locking tabs part of your annual maintenance.

Or you could install one of the ignition bypass kits to take the load off of the ignition switch contacts and put it on a relay that can better handle the power draw.

Did you try adjusting the aim of your headlight? I have never replaced a headlight bulb in any car truck or bike that was still aimed perfect after the replacement some are close, probably close enough for most people. Even when changing to the exact same stock bulb. All bulbs have manufacturing tolerances that will have an effect on the beam, that is why the headlights are made to be adjustable. If the HI beam was up in the treetops, it sounds like you need to mess this the aim a bit. I know I have sure been happy with the light output of my HID, And my HID draws less power than some LED headlights. In fairness I must admit that I have yet to see an LED replacement headlight in person. I have also never heard anyone ever say that they thought an LED was brighter than an HID. I really like my HID so I will not be experimenting with LED headlights. I may try a set of LED H3 bulbs in my driving lights. If I don't try HID in them first.

NOOOooooo Don't want Texas. Here in Wisconsin it is getting up into the 70s today the fall colors are near peak, should be peak for the weekend with 70s and sunny weather. AND Wisconsin don't hit a million degrees in the summer or a half a million degrees in the winter. Do want new tires, new seat, and a day off though.

Woo Hoo After all of the heart crap that I went thru. I have finally got the bike out of hibernation. Just this week I used up the last of the gas that was put in the poor bike in October of LAST year. She now has a tank of fresh gas and is running much better. With the sudden onset of all my health issues I never had the opportunity to store the bike properly. It was stored with a full tank of crap gas and I simply dumped in a half can of Seafoam and some Stabil. but I could not take it out for mixing or even really lift the bike off the side stand so the gas had to mix itself. I did start it up and let it run some of the treated gas up into the carbs. But that was all I could handle as far as winter prep. First ride this year it was running pretty rough, but it seemed to get better with more miles. Once I got the fresh new gas in there with another half can of Seafoam I could feel it getting better by the mile. It is now with just a half tank of the fresh gas thru it back to its old happy self. :bikersmilie: :bikersmilie: :bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie: Oh yea as for me. Now that the docs have started to ween me off of the heart meds, I do not get the dizzy spells that were keeping me off the bike, My last dizzy spell was back in July. So I think that I am starting to get better also October 26 is the 1 year anniversary of when my medical ordeal started. It is not yet done by a long shot, but it is headed in the right direction. With all of the heart stuff my pilots license is pretty much toast, possibly permanently (they have some silly rules). So it looks like I will get in a short riding season yet this year, just in time for the fall colors and then all to soon after that, looking to get that great big lop eared varmint from across the pond @cowpuc back in shape with his first

Good news and bad news, Batteries are hazardous waste, landfills can not take them. There are a lot of places that will buy your old battery. Yes they will give you money Autotzone, Advance Auto, If you have a battery manufacturer or rebuilder in the area they pay the best price for old batteries. Even metal recyclers will buy them. If you sell it to a place you will at least know that it is getting recycled and not just turning into pollution AND you end up with $5 in your pocket. WIN WIN.

The resistor value is not at all critical. I would start by using the resistor that is already there, connect the sensor end of the resistor to a switched 12v source, and if the warning light goes out, your good. If the resistor value is to high the worst that will happen is the warning light stays on, if the resistor value is to low, you fry the computer. Check the liquid in the battery box to see if it is acid or water. If acid you have a leak, if water stop washing the bike so much. That is a 6.9K ohm resistor. IIRC it was around a 2K ohm for the mod to turn off the warning light and the resistor would be connected from the sensor lead to +12v not in series with the sensor like this one is. The factory sensor wire was white with a red stripe. You may need to do some more sleuthing to figure out what you have there. But I doubt if this is related to the water issue

I think we answered his question, I sure hope that he is not ashamed of not knowing that the bars are adjustable on a 1st gen. Most people do not know that. There are lot lot of things on these bike that most people do not know about. That is why we are here to help. It is usually (not always ) after the question was answered or problem solved (I hope), that we end up getting side tracked and/or end up in a full blown thread hijack. I sure hope the original poster come back to let us know if his problem is solved or if we need to come up with more ideas.

Back around 1980 I got my winning letter from the court system. At that time the process was to go down to the court house every day and sit in a big room with about 300 other people and listen for your name to be called. Once they got to a point where they knew they would not need to fill any more juries for the day everyone got sent home. They always tried to do the send home before noon, usually by just minutes. But you still had to report in the next day. The noon let out was a big deal to them. They paid jurrors by the half day, $5 per half day. During my 2 weeks of duty I was called for 5 cases. the first 3 were drunk driving cases. There were some interesting excuses. even though none of them worked. The 4th was an armed robbery case, he was guilty to. The 5th I was called for jury selection on the last day of my 2 week stint, along with everyone still left in the big room. The judge said up front that the trial would last at least 3 months. It was something about a building renovation gone wrong where the building owner was suing the builder and the builder was suing the architecture firm that designed it, all rolled up into one big mess, with millions of $$$$ involved. I was able to escape that one because they did not want any engineers in the jury. I did learn the tricks of the trade though. IF the jury deliberated through lunch time the court is required to feed you because you must remain sequestered once deliberation starts. If lunch break happens during the trial you are on your own for lunch. There were a couple of cases where the trial and deliberation was all done just before lunch, I was all to happy to explain that if we delay just a bit longer that we will get free lunch. And they did serve very good meals, They want happy jurors. I never won again since then. My boss on the other hand is a winner every other year.

Pretty common. When you put the drive shaft back in you missed the front spline. If you lift the bike, put it in gear and if you can turn the rear wheel, that confirms it.

How about I just bury y'all in snow to slow down the response time on the clicker finger........ Or at least keep you trapped outside shoveling........
