  1. Thats what I'm talking about. The internet is also a great source for info but that info is no better than the author, I have seen some (not many) with bad info. But the factory manual is the bible and covers everything. And for $15 you can't go wrong, that is even cheaper than a Haynes.
  2. Speedo and ODO are both driven from the same cable. If either is working then your cable is good and you have other issues in the head.
  3. perfect The class is only supposed to work in ACC The E4 code is a common issue for a bad solder joint on the PC board. Very easy to fix.
  4. The last Haynes manual that I bought for my 91 Firebird was not a lot of help, most of the stuff I looked up said to "take it to a qualified mechanic" Yet it had details to rebuild the engine and trans. All I was looking for was instructions to change a power window motor and then the fuel pump. They felt that that can only be done by a qualified mechanic. Me personally, I will never get another Haynes. I do not know if the Chilton's are any better or not. Now I buy the factory manuals, they have everything.

  7. The price bottomed out here about 2 months ago at around $1.39. With Easter coming it is expected to jump the price to catch the travelers. They are raising the price cuz they can, that's all the reason they need. They let it dip down for a while so everyone would go out and trade in there econobox cars for big honking SUVs that drink gas, then pop the price back up and roll in the cash..............
  8. BUT, BUt, But, but........... I never claimed to have ever been anything even close to resembling NORMA in any manor shape or form...........
  9. The front springs do not die from mileage they die of old age. Your 92 is old and I would bet they are weak at best. Those springs are holding up the weight of the bike whether it is sitting in the garage or flying down the road, either way they are still working.
  10. Puc? Back to NORMAL?........ Don't you need to have been NORMAL at some time, in order to get back to NORMAL?????????????
  11. Sure looks to healing good. Please try to keep following the docs intentions.............
  12. It is obvious that even the squirrel thought the Oldgoat was nutz.
  13. The difference is the boiling of point Dot 4 may be higher. Dot 4 is not necessarily better than Dot 3. Here is some good reading written in English. http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/brake-fluid
  14. Unless the bearing is bad don't mess with it. You would need a bearing puller which will damage the bearing getting it off. I would start with just looking at the brushes, if the brushes and commutator look good then I doubt the bearings are worn at all. Think about how much time the starter is actually spinning, it runs 1 or 2 seconds for each normal start. At 2 seconds per start, you get 30 starts to a minute of run time, or 1800 starts to get an hour of run time on the starter motor. That is a lot of starts to get one hour of wear, The bearings should be good for many hundreds of hours. The only thing that might take them out would be water in the motor. by changing out good bearings you have a better chance of damaging the armature than you do of adding life to the motor.
  15. Oh sure, now I have to go and find the whole bag full of tools that my basement ate.......
  16. A very good reason to skip 2nd gear is if you don't have a second gear, in which case the hills really don't matter.
  17. If you buy the gaskets from Skydoc_17 he has a shim kit that he loans out that includes a tool. If you wish to buy a tool, I have some left in stock ready to ship, PM me.
  18. Try lubing the clutch lever pivot and cleaning the contacts in the clutch switch. This has been an issue for 1st gens and the 2nds are getting up there in years now.
  19. @cowpuc has about 200K miles of hard riding with no 2nd. The problem with 2nd gear will not take out the rest of the tranny.
  20. I am sure that if you were to come up here we can do better than just lunch, I know some awesome places for ice cream. After all this is Wisconsin and we know our dairy products. Even though the turnout was a bit low everyone still had a great time. I still have not figured this all out. Today was great riding weather, a couple of bikes did show up. Even though this was the best weather we ever had it was the lowest turn out. The time is was very cold and snowing is the time we had the biggest turnout with attendees from 3 states. :confused24:
  21. "Its only a dumb question if you already know the answer." One of my dads favorites.
  22. Wen to the doc today for the final sign off on my foot. She said that she has never had a patient heal as fast as I did. She said everything looks good. It will still take some time to get everything stretched out and back up to speed. I am still scheduled for more PT till April 6. I am hoping that by then It will be strong enough to move the bike around and get it up on the center stand. If I can get on the center stand and get the bike out of the shed then I am strong enough to ride it to.
  23. Just one more day, Tomorrow (Saturday)is the day. The weather is even going to be decent for a ride. Mid 50s, partly sunny, and it rained during the week to wash most of the salt off the roads.
  24. Well ole @cowpuc, since you are out riding around the shores of the big pond between us, just keep following that shoreline until you end up in my back yard. You can then join us for a my mid winter M&E at 1:00 Saturday afternoon to see if you can wrap yourself around a burger known as the 747 and justly named. So far I am the ONLY person that I have seen that could handle a burger of this magnitude, with all of that good Wisconsin cheese, 1 full pound of BURGER, and a pile of BACON and other fixins..........You keep saying you are always up for a great burger.
