  1. Checking the charging system is not difficult, even for the electrically challenged. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?81297-Testing-for-a-Battery-not-Charging
  2. Yes it is heavy It also has a high center of gravity, It will take a bit of practice to learn how to handle this. There is a known hard starting issue when the engine is hot. There are 3 possible fixes, many do all 3, 1. new battery, you already did that. 2. new starter wires, upgrade to #4AWG welding wire. 3. replace starter with newer 4 brush starter. To test the charging system http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?81297-Testing-for-a-Battery-not-Charging
  3. Its easy, while typing the add you just press the M - I - N and T buttons on your keyboard. Maybe she was referring to the Julep she was drinking? Don't all mint condition vehicles need paint and engine work?
  4. That is the way it is supposed to work, the water improves the electrical contact where the wires are joined...... But on a more serious side, pure clean water is nearly an insulator, on the brighter side it probably means that she has a pretty clean water source. In that pic it looks like there is a lot of rust in the water which would make it a pretty good conductor, I would think it should have popped the breaker, I wonder if the breaker is good? It is certainly not a GFI type breaker.
  5. Dan you know the Warden still has that frying pan and will have whats left of your scalp if you try to come home with ANOTHER 2 wheeled bike. But I have no such limitations...................
  6. Something else to check. You mentioned that you tried a valve tool that was welded. it is easy to get the weld thick enough so that it will hit the head as it comes around. If this happens it will dimple the soft aluminum of the head and push a burr into the bore for the bucket, that can interfere with valve movement. There was a thread a while back where someone damaged the head and it prevented the valves from closing all the way. It had how he fixed it. I am trying to find it. no luck so far.
  7. He said it was junk cuz he wants it. Sounds like a deal to me, $600 for a running low mileage bike. What are the minor issues? And of course we do have rules here.
  8. I am sorry to hear that you are on crutches, that would be the only way you cant catch a RSV..... If you were on your 1st gen, you really should plug in at least one of the 2 disconnected spark plug wires when you go for rides..........
  9. It is the bearings that squeal, the gears are making the crunching grinding noise. I still thought it was a good question................
  10. Did you do the upgrade to #4 AWG cables to the starter and ground? There are 3 cables that need to be upgraded. This will allow the power that the starter needs to actually get there.
  11. I DID IT!!!! I DID IT!!!! Today I went out to the shed and got the bike up on the center stand and onto the center stand dolly with no real difficulty. This has been my projected litmus test as to when I am ready to ride. My PT has agreed that if I can lift the beast onto the center stand that I am strong enough to ride it. I have my last PT visit on April 6 so I will see what she has to say. On her leg press machine I am able to lift 350 lbs (machine max) with either leg. Now I can start working on getting the bike ready to go........... LOOK OUT, Trouble is comin..................
  12. I would first try to turn the broken screw out with a pick or anything else you can get on it. Many people have been able to tease the broken bolt out of there. If that does not work, then since the cap you are showing is the outside cap, I would first rotate the engine so the cam lobes are pointed up. This way there is no valve spring pressure trying to bend the camshaft or mess with your torque settings. You should be able to get to those bolts with a torque wrench.
  13. There are 2 "E" strings on a guitar. You need the High E string, which is the smaller diameter of the 2.
  14. And you look so happy in that pic, I may have to send you some more joy..............
  15. I sure hope 50mm is a typo......... I do not think that is possible without breaking the camshaft. The valve clearance should get tighter with use, if it got bigger I would be worried about a damaged valve or crud holding the valve open. Can you do a compression check on those cylinders? I believe that I have shipped a few valve tools into your general area. I don't remember who all got them. But I do have a few left. Last one I sent north over the border took 10 days to get to SK.

  17. Not here it aint after midnight. You were to quick by 21 minutes................................. I guess you were unaware that a tracker so small could be cast into the steel of a blade, or inserted into the nice soft rubber of a belt. Hows yer weather lookin?
  18. So you are saying that I am "special"? Sooooooooooo Thennnnn.................. If I say I am sending you some snow tonight and for the weekend, then it must be true........................? OR is it just a fool?
  19. Today at work I got a call from my local Yamaha dealer. He now has the 2016 Venture in stock on on the showroom floor. It is a 1700cc v4, EFI, ABS shaft drive water cooled Tons of luggage space. frame mounted fairing He has both red and blue in stock now. $22,495 out the door.
  20. There was a Darwin award issued for a red neck that used a 22 long as a fuse in his pickup. It got hot enough to fire and got his femoral artery. Then he crashed the truck..................
  21. So make your own slow blow fuses. Just need some copper tubing cut to length. That is actually how the maint guy at work got the fuses o the CNC machines to stop blowing.
  22. It is ok to drive her there in your pick up truck as long as you stay in the truck to wait for her to come back out after the concert. OR Deposit your man card into the slot in the top of your paper shredder. This is not a discussion, just a statement.
  23. Just ordered mine with the front camera option, really do not want to have to keep moving my head for foolish things like to see where I'm going. This will certainly help on my marshmallow butt runs.
