side kick stand

I guess now we need to find out which way it is tipping. Leaning to far and standing to tall are completely different issues. -
Valve removal

I never went as deep as you are headed, I will take a look at my spare heads over the weekend to see if I can figure it out for you. Unless of course someone jumps in here first. -
Well if you do find any spare marbles, I have been told that I have lost more than just a few of mine.

What air pressures are you running in the front and rear shocks. If the shocks are to low on pressure the bike will be very straight up when on the side stand. Also check you tire pressure to be sure it is up to where it is supposed to be. -

I love flywheel pulling stories, There are a few. I had my own. I think you missed a designed in feature on the flywheel. There is a hex boss that is there to put a big wrench on to hold the flywheel still while you tighten or loosen the center bolt and even while cranking on the puller for removal. You just put on the wrench and rotate the flywheel around till the wrench hits the foot rest, now everything is solid while you work on tightening and loosening things that want to turn. This takes it back to an easy one man job. That is also the hex that I used for turning over the engine when I did my Valve lash adjustments. An electric impact does not stand a chance, even my professional grad air impact did not stand a chance even when I cranked the air up to 150psi, I used the 24" breaker bar with another 2 foot piece of pipe on it to get enough force on the puller to POP the flywheel loose. The good news is that once you get it off the first time, it will never be as hard to get off again. The factory must torque that thing down to about a million LB/FT of torque. Someone also told me that the factory puts bearing retainer on the taper, but I saw no sign of that when I took mine apart. Your getting closer to ride time. -
I have not noticed this one, but then I have pretty good spam filters set up. I get about 70-80 spams a day that I never have to see, they go right in the trash automatically.

Starter just quit

We can start at the solenoid since you are already there. For clarity, the start relay is a separate component from the start solenoid. The solenoid is the one with the big wires direct from the battery. Just so we are all using the same nomenclature for clarity. If you connect +12V to the Red/White pin and ground to the Blue pin of the solenoid, it will crank if the solenoid is good. On the wire harness side, if you connect your volt meter from the red white wire to ground you should see 12V anytime the key is on. If you set the meter to Ohms and connect from the blue wire to ground, it should read no continuity, when you push the start button it should read very low resistance. These tests can also be done with a test light. -
You do know that being bikeless is no reason to leave. But Welcome back. Now we need the rules refresher course about pictures............................

I am still trying to figure out where the tank of gas went prior to putting the front end back on the bike. That one still has me baffled.

Plunger case and anti dive uit
Flyinfool replied to kapebretoner's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First off I hope you are not hurt, the rest is easy. Many people have replaced the stock springs with new progressive springs and eliminated the Anti Dive system altogether. Skydoc_17 sells the block off plates to do this. I guess I am not sure what part you are calling the "plunger case". If you mean the lower fork tube, Ebay will be your friend, it is also possible that a member here has one on a parts bike. Pics of the damage may help us out. -

A reverse gear would sure be handy.

Another milestone hit. Trouble is a comin now. Got the needed work done on the bike and burned off a full tank of gas today. Foot was a bit sore but not bad and felt fine again after a couple of hours rest. The hard part is pushing the bike backwards about 20 feet uphill and over a threshold to get it out of the shed that it lives in. That is a lot of stress on the foot.

I tried everything in my power..............

Now I done it, I even got the bike fixed up and running, If that don't bring some SNOW I don't know what will. -
Starter just quit
Flyinfool replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That does tell you that the starter and battery are good and you problem lies elsewhere on the bike somewhere between the battery and the starter. -
Well to answer a few questions. No I never did the carb rebuild from last time. I did do @skydoc_17s cleaning on the bike method and the problem went away until this last month. Technically the term WIFE was used as a figure of speech, I still don't technically have one of those. Aliens is a possibility, I do have a few friends from my home planet of Zore that do come to visit me occasionally and they do like to play pranks. They like our gas since their spaceship gets around 4 light years to the gallon. I did go out and do some more checking and investigating today. I finished changing my front wheel bearings and while putting it all back together the front wheel slipped out of my hands and went rolling away. It took me 2.5 hours to catch up with that fools tire, and by the time I did, I noticed that the tank seemed to be empty again.................AND when I got home, I got the, "WHAT? 2.5 hours to go get gas from 2 blocks away?":duck:I had to explain that not all gas stations have motorcycle gas in stock yet, the nearest gas station that had motorcycle gas in stock was 3 counties away.................. But I think this may be a new issue, and now my face hurts cuz I can't get the to go away and my leg hurts cuz I am a :dancefool:...........

Starter just quit
Flyinfool replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A hot battery usually means it has been putting out a lot of amps. An easy test to rule out everything else on the bike is to connect jumper cables from your car battery directly to the starter (Car not running). Make doubly, triple sure that the bike is not in gear, because you are bypassing every single safety circuit on the bike. If it cranks then the starter is good and you have an issue in some other circuit on the bike, if it don't then the starter is bad and most likely the rest of the bike is fine. Since all of the lights and radio dim AND the battery is getting hot, that means you are drawing a lot of power. It could be possible the the starter cable has rubbed thru somewhere and is shorting to ground. -
@cowpuc does claim to be able to get into my shed to be able to mess with certain machinery................. I'll have to send him the bill for 5 gallons of gas, maybe wrap the bill in a big SNOW ball...................

This happened once about 5 or 6 years ago and it just happened again. A full tank of gas has dissapeared out of my bike. Last month when I went out to look longingly at the bike while the ground was still covered in snow it had a full tank of gas. I started it up and let it run at a high idle for about 45 minutes. This brought it down to 5 of 6 bars on the gas gauge. Yesterday I had to put in a new battery, turned on the key, and it was showing zero bars on the gas gauge. I looked in the tank and it was bone dry. Empty, nada, nutin there. First thought was to check the oil. nope, the oil level is exactly midway up the sight glass, so I pulled all 4 plugs just in case there was a cylinder full and spun it over, Nope none there either. Looking at the ground for signs of gas dripping, not a mark on the ground. The gas cap was still locked, the bike was in a locked steel shed, and the jug of gas on the floor next to the bike was still full, so I doubt that it was theft. No kids in the house anymore, wife would not know how to get gas out of a tank. Like I said about 1 month ago it showed up as 5 out of 6 bars on the gas gauge which would be about right. The tank took the full contents of my 5 gallon gas jug to fill it, and there was still room for more. Today there is no sign of dripping or leaking. If it was a stuck float and gas was siphoning out of the tank, where did it go. If it was siphoning it should not go below about a half tank cuz gas don't flow uphill and the bottom of the tank is well below the carbs. SOOOOOOO Where did the gas go??? We never did figure this one out back the last time it happened either. Here is the thread from last time. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?67529-OK-Where-do-you-think-the-gas-went

I do not know for sure on the alignment, I never messed with a setup like that. I agree that caster does not apply. Camber I would think should be either 0 or with the tops of the tires tilted slightly to the center, Tops tilted out would be bad. You can measure with a level. As for Toe, I would think it should be like a trailer axle. Either 0 or slightly toed in, toed out would give handling issues. To measure toe use 2 straight 2x4s clamped to the tires and measure the distance across the front and the back of the 2x4s to see which way the tires are pointed. Also lay out the center of the bike and measure out to each 2x4 to be sure that both tires are pointed straight ahead. As I said there are just my best guess for a good starting point.

LED headlight replacement
Flyinfool replied to bostonlawman2003's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check that your headlight aim is correct, many people mistake bright and a poorly aimed light that will blind oncoming drivers. You do not want to cover up the cooling fan and/or heat sink with anything or you will burn up your new bulb. You also want to make sure that the hot air has a way out of the headlight housing and cool fresh air has a way in. BUT you do not want water to get in there either.
