  1. At idle it is normal to have a low output. You need to check the battery voltage with the engine at around 3,000 RPM.
  2. When the E85 fuel came out what was left in the hose was a big issue. That is why E85 must be in a pump with a dedicated hose. At the time they sere saying that between the switching valve, the pump, the meter the filters and the hoses to connect it all up was almost 3 gallons. So if you went in with a gas can for your mowers, snow blowers or what ever you could get all E85 and destroy your engine that was not designed for it. Same for some of the real small econobox cars with 8-10 gallon tanks, you could end up with a half tank of E85 and destroy the engine. When I get my premium ethanol free gas I only buy from pumps that have a dedicated hose, otherwise you are just buying some of the good stuff for the next guy in line and you are getting whatever the last guy got.
  3. I found this that may help a bit. http://www.justanswer.com/small-engine/3q7n9-bought-pro-user-g2300-generator-engine-works.html I could not find a schematic or parts diagram online to see what its internal circuits are. If the capacitor looks like it may be damaged, it is easy to replace and not very expensive. There are other things that can cause the cap to fail. If you replace the cap, what is important is the 19uF and the 450V AC. The voltage can be higher but never lower. Most of those type capacitors are round metal cans, it may be tricky mounting it.
  4. She won't be slow if you keep getting on the 2nd gen and leaving her a garage full of 1st gens.
  5. I guess I do not know how it is possible for the switch between Hi and Lo to be slower than the halogen. Since the bulb never turns off there is zero start time for HID. Halogen takes a fraction of a second for the other element to heat up to a temperature that produces light. The physics says that the stock halogen must be slower to switch. Flicking between Hi and Lo with a Bi-xenon HID does NOT cause any extra wear on the ballast. The Hi and Lo both use the same bulb so it never turns off and reignites. Hi/Lo is achieved by having a solenoid that physically moves the bulb to the proper positions for the Hi or Lo filament.
  6. We also had a great time. Our most hearty thanks to Don and Eileen for their hospitality. There are still some folks that I did not get a chance to meet. Guess we will have to come back again...........
  7. I once ran a test in my big red truck. I kept a gas log where I recorded the date, odometer, gallons, obtain, brand and cost of every fill up. I did all fillups with premium, mostly with ethanol, for a full year. I then compared this log to a log of a full year with regular gas. My conclusions were that with the premium gas I did see an improvement in gas mileage, BUT the dollars per mile went down. I also did see a measurable difference in my 0-60 time with premium showing a measurable increase in acceleration capability. Due to the truck having a max speed limiter built into the computer I could not test for a difference in top speed. The biggest difference was when pulling the 6,000 lb RV. I got much better gas mileage and acceleration with the premium, enough that the dollars per mile actually favored the premium. so for towing the heavy load I will still run the premium. Through all of this I never noticed any difference in normal daily driving, only difference was the performance extremes. So I am another that will run regular unless I have a really heavy load. As for my bike, it only gets premium if there is an option of ethanol free. The lack of ethanol makes a lot more of a difference that the octane. For the last tank of the year I always bring a couple of fuel jugs deer hunting to get some ethanol free gas (happens to be premium) to store all of my summer engines. There is no ethanol free gas available in SE Wisconsin. the nearest station is 100 miles away and there is only premium available in ethanol free. Up here wee have enough boats, snowmobiles, and other 2 stroke engines around that there are a few gas stations that even have a gas pump of 2 cycle premix.
  8. Only gave da Ferd a 3 hour and 250 mile head start, to make it close.
  9. That ain't the same bike you pulled in on is it????
  10. AS always It was a wonderful time by you wonderful hosts. Just made it in at 8:30 your time.
  11. Thats OK Dan, I'll even let you park your little Ford next to my big ol Chevy................. Looking forward to seeing you there.
  12. I guess I need to stock up on red and green duck tape first.
  13. DOH!!!
  14. In this case rock salt may be the appropriate tool to start the seasoning process.
  15. So did you ask? Was it the fuel solenoid?
  16. Ummmmm I used the spacer AND the #29 aluminum thing. As for 250lbs.......................Ummmmmmm ya.............
  17. IIRC, and I am pretty fuzzy on this one, If one were to put a MKI (or MKII for that matter) 1st gen rear end in there it would require some machining to make a place for the speed sensor to be installed. It can be done but is a lot more work than just a simple swap.
  18. Sounds good to me. Have you sat down and had a talk with your weatherman yet to be sure that we have and not ?
  19. She knows nothing of those things............ But you have to behave at least a little bit, I might want her to do this again sometime. I have thought of picking up Puc and Tippy on the way. I'll have to give ol Puc a shout. HEY, @cowpuc!!!!! Not a chance of turning it around in the shed with any sort of contraption.
  20. Well it was close, I will not be riding to MD this year. I will be in the big red truck again. While the foot is good enough for local riding I do not trust it yet for a long distance ride with all of the extra weight piled on. Just the 45 minute ride to work everyday is fairly painful by the end, I just do not think I would enjoy a 10 hour ride. BUT on the other side of the coin, I will have my sweety with me this year. She does not do bikes. She will be staying with me at the pond monster inn and has never in her life slept in a tent before.
  21. The How to writeup is getting closer. The written part is nearly finished.
  22. Got it all back together and out riding. I think the steering was hosed from the day I bought the bike and I just did not know any better having never ridden any other bike this size for comparison. What a difference good bearings and fresh grease make. I an sure that the new springs and fork oil are helping some too. I have most of the text written up for the how to on the steering bearings.
  23. So I guess there is no one from north and west of Lake Michigan that will be heading thru Wisconsin ................. I will be in the Truck again this year so I can clear a hole thru Chicago. I got tonnage over most of them.
  24. BUT There really needs to be a pic with all the lights on to prove that they are real. Just have to shoot the pic thru the lens of a welding helmet........
  25. If you don't have it fixed before MD I am sure we can get it done there. I will bring a bunch of electrical stuff.
