  1. And I do have one of those special nipples if you are ever wandering down this way. It was made by a member here.
  2. That red one sure is purdy............................
  3. Good luck on your ablation. I had one done last summer using some new methods and so far it is working. My doc said I was the 4th person ever to have this new procedure. Of course he pointed that part out AFTER the procedure. I spent a total of 30 hours in the hospital and only missed 3 days of work.
  4. A very long time ago a friend of mine had a similar happening. once it was all over his lawyer told him to charge 4 months security deposit that will be put into an interest earning account with the tenant getting the interest. The thought being that anyone that has that kind of cash is not likely a lowlife and they will be real nice to the property to be sure they get it back. It has worked like a charm for him for the last 30 years. At least your legal system works fast. Here you can not even start the eviction proceedings for 6 months. When I was a renter there was a family that moved in upstairs that would pay the security deposit to get in and then not pay another penny and would be moved out the day before the sherif came to toss them out. They did over $20K in damage to the building, and this was in the late 70s. We ended up getting tossed out to because the building was so bad the city was going to condemn it. Even though the landlord said we were the best tenants he ever met.
  5. I guess I must have the cleanest possible garage. I do not have a garage at all. Therefor it is not possible for it to be a mess. BUT ALL of the stuff that one would normally have in the garage is all kept in my basement. along with all of the stuff that one would normally find in a basement, and my poor little basement is only 600 ft². I also have a 3400 lb pile of cast iron called a milling machine, a 1200 lb lathe and a 1800 lb surface grinder and a few other assorted large tools stuffed in there. And do not forget about my private air force that also hides in the nooks and crannies of that deep dark hole. Add to all of that the fact that I am also a pack rat and you can only imagine what it looks like.
  6. Actually if you look at what the peoples of the various nations are called, the nations that have a bunch of words making up their name are called by the most prominent or distinctive part of the name. Hence we are called Americans, people from the United Arab Emirates are called Emirates and the list goes on. There is only one country on the planet that has the word America in its name, (that I know of) so there is really no ambiguity as to who is being referred to by the term American. The United States of America is also the oldest country of the American continent. The whole thing was called America before it was carved up into all of the different countries that now make up the Americas. So it is appropriate and makes sense that the name stuck, we had it first. OK I'll go put my soapbox back in the corner now................
  7. With @cowpuc new found manual dexterity did ya put a better lock on dat der cage o his? He is a sly ol varmint, ya gots to watch him REAL close. Maybe you lop eared varmints over in MI that seem to have lost him, again, need some tracking SNOW to help find him.
  8. It may not make any sense, but there is only one.
  9. Still not to bad. The only plastic I had to pull to do neck bearings was the same as for springs plus the front fender. I do not have the lower fairings on the bike or you might have to pull those to.
  10. The venture is easy to do springs, It literally took longer to get all of the tools jacks and stuff out and put away than it did to do the job. Changing the springs is an easy half hour job if you take your time and down a few wet ones while working on it. Once the bike is jacked up off the ground. Let all the air out of the front suspension. Pull the drain plugs on each fork. 2 screws to remove the plastic ignition switch cover and one connector for the cruise control lights. 2 big nuts to get off the plate that the Ignition cover was attached to. 1 screw each to remove the fill pieces from the fairing. 1 clamp bolt on each handlebar. Pull off the rubber cap on the top of each fork. 17mm hex driver to remove the fork cap. Pull out old spring and spacers. Put drain plugs back in. Fill with oil to proper level. Drop in new spring and spacers. Reassemble in reverse order of how it came apart. Go for ride. Literally the longest part of the job is waiting for the old oil to drain out. But you can be working on a cold one during that time.
  11. Based on that video the venture forks are a lot different than the V-Max forks.
  12. I think I would have pulled out my phone and took his pic and a pic of his license plate and turned it into the police. It might make more of an impression while he goes thru the process of going thu the system before he gets his wrist slapped and gets released. I must admit that I would likely have lost it when he said he was taking it because his son wanted it.
  13. I don't know it it would work to try to measure the factory preload. The factory springs are a bout 6 inches shorter than the progressives and wound from much thinner wire.
  14. It could also be as simple as a dirty connection to the battery.
  15. :sign yeah that: Many "modern" chargers will not even try to charge a dead battery. You need to keep that good old cheap stupid charger around for the days when you drain a battery all the way down. OR You can connect jumpers from the dead battery to a good battery and then put the new charger on both batteries till the dead one is brought up enough for the smart charger to recognize it. This will fool most of the smart chargers.
  16. They NEVER specify which September.
  17. I reduced the preload on the front springs today. It made the bike handle a lot better but I think there is still more to be had by further reduction in the preload.
  18. Well better late than never. Today I finally got around to adjusting the preload. I measured the spacers as is at 1.094 long. So I cut one in half with an 093 cutter I ended up wit new spacers at exactly .500 long. I put these in and went for a ride. The first thing I noticed was that the windshield now clears the door of the shed by about a quarter inch. It was rubbing before. The slow speed handling is much improved, but not quite what I am after. I did not get a chance to hit any curves at more than 30 MPH so I will have to wait till tomorrows trip into work to try out handling at higher speeds. I will likely leave it like this for a month just to get used to it and see if I want to take the spacers out all together. I really never thought that a half inch would make this much of a difference in handling.
  19. It is a common issue with the 2nd gens to get a plugged vent line causing fuel starvation. The woosh when you opened the cap is the big giveaway. It is known for various insects to crawl up in the vent hose and plug it up. If you do not clear the vent hose it WILL happen again, and again......................
  20. That aint as silly as it sounds. I put a big powerful magnet on the bottom of my bike to trip a traffic signal that I go thru often. I have found many nails and screws and other steel junk stuck to that magnet over the years. I figure everyone of them was headed for the rear wheel. My theory as to why the rear is that one that seems to collect the nails and not the front is; The nail is laying on its side on the road, it is not pointed in a direction to puncture anything. the front tire rolls over it and causes it to start bouncing down the road and the rear gets there just as the nail is point up and POOF. My magnet will not pick a nail off the ground, but it will snag one that is about 2 inches off the ground. Maybe I need a bigger magnet...................
  21. Another angle to look at. Check your bikes voltage across the battery with everything turned on that is normally turned on for a ride to be sure that the bike charging system is up to snuff. It could be possible to loose one diode in the rectifier and that could cause the excess AC ripple on the line. This could manifest as a slightly low charging voltage under load. Another trick is to set your meter for AC volts and check across the battery with the bike turned off The meter should say zero. If the meter reads zero then you can do the next test. Some meters will read the voltage wether it is AC or DC, some wont. Now start the bike If there is AC coming thru the meter will see it.
  22. You da man.............
  23. Part of what you want is for the cables to be welding cable. Welding cable is made up to be much more flexible and is much easier to snake thru the bike. A welding supply shop may be able to make them up for you also. A local marine supply store also makes up cables.
  24. I guess it ain't all that hard to do that one extra click. I am sure that even us old farts can muddle our way thru this one. Thanks Don for all that you do to keep all of us ungrateful pot stirrers and even some pot lickers happy. I know it is a thankless job.
  25. Do you also need to be a supporting member to receive a PM with a pic?
