Cruise slow to engage:
Flyinfool replied to Rob Swallows's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
As you probably figured out by now the delay is normal to this bike. After all it is 30 year old electronic technology. I just press set, then hold the throttle at a couple MPH slower than what I set it for and wait till I feel the cruise pick up the throttle you can feel the throttle move in your hand as the cruise catches up. If I just hit set and let go of the throttle it will sometimes drop low enough cause the cruise to kick back out before it gets engaged. Part of the reason for this is that the cruise is designed to move the throttle slowly so that there is not a sudden burst od acceleration that could catch you off guard and dump you of the back of the bike. Even when the cruise is adjusting for hills it moves very slow which will allow it to drop speed on the incline and then over speed over the top. That is just the way it is. The faster you are going the longer it takes for the cruise to catch up because it has to move farther, and it moves slow. Once you know that that is just how it is you can develop your own preference for dealing with it. -
There is also the possibility that the switch has dirty contacts, and is not turning the hardware on, therefor the OS can not see the hardware. I occasionally have to take my laptop apart to clean dirty switches. I bought this laptop back in 1999. I am cheap, I exhaust all of the free possibilities before I spend my money.

Its not really a pin, it is a squarish bump on the triple tree that goes into a squarish notch in the collar. (Or was it the other way around?) The only reason I can see for its existence is to align the two air hoses that connect to it. The collar on the left side only has one air hose and the length of that air hose pretty much determines where that collar must be. If the length of the air hose changes slightly (manufacturing tolerances,) that left collar will need to rotate slightly to accommodate the length difference. When you assembled yours not knowing that the bump and notch were there, you might have just got lucky and they landed in place. If the bump is not in the notch the fork tube will not go all the way into the triple tree, it will be sitting about 1/4 inch low. That was how I found out about the bump and notch. -
I had a hunch that a little tracking would help find him. I hope you are feeling better now.

If you are working with light then white a mix of all colors (or colours for those other few.....). When working with pigment, like a paint, then white is the absence of color so that the paint will reflect all of the colors and we will see white light which is all of the colors. If you want red paint then you add a pigment that will absorb all of the colors except for the red light so that we see the color red. Pigment does not actually have color since color is light and the paint does not emit light, it just reflects or absorbs what is there. That is why black things get so hot in the sun, black is the absence of color so that means that the black object is absorbing all of the light energy so it gets the hottest the fastest. White stays cooler because it is reflecting most of the light energy away. So how is this for being out of control?........................

Corroded terminals can do the same thing with the voltage. Check both ends of each battery cable.

That red one sure is purdy............................

Good luck on your ablation. I had one done last summer using some new methods and so far it is working. My doc said I was the 4th person ever to have this new procedure. Of course he pointed that part out AFTER the procedure. I spent a total of 30 hours in the hospital and only missed 3 days of work. -
A very long time ago a friend of mine had a similar happening. once it was all over his lawyer told him to charge 4 months security deposit that will be put into an interest earning account with the tenant getting the interest. The thought being that anyone that has that kind of cash is not likely a lowlife and they will be real nice to the property to be sure they get it back. It has worked like a charm for him for the last 30 years. At least your legal system works fast. Here you can not even start the eviction proceedings for 6 months. When I was a renter there was a family that moved in upstairs that would pay the security deposit to get in and then not pay another penny and would be moved out the day before the sherif came to toss them out. They did over $20K in damage to the building, and this was in the late 70s. We ended up getting tossed out to because the building was so bad the city was going to condemn it. Even though the landlord said we were the best tenants he ever met.

I guess I must have the cleanest possible garage. I do not have a garage at all. Therefor it is not possible for it to be a mess. BUT ALL of the stuff that one would normally have in the garage is all kept in my basement. along with all of the stuff that one would normally find in a basement, and my poor little basement is only 600 ft². I also have a 3400 lb pile of cast iron called a milling machine, a 1200 lb lathe and a 1800 lb surface grinder and a few other assorted large tools stuffed in there. And do not forget about my private air force that also hides in the nooks and crannies of that deep dark hole. Add to all of that the fact that I am also a pack rat and you can only imagine what it looks like.

Actually if you look at what the peoples of the various nations are called, the nations that have a bunch of words making up their name are called by the most prominent or distinctive part of the name. Hence we are called Americans, people from the United Arab Emirates are called Emirates and the list goes on. There is only one country on the planet that has the word America in its name, (that I know of) so there is really no ambiguity as to who is being referred to by the term American. The United States of America is also the oldest country of the American continent. The whole thing was called America before it was carved up into all of the different countries that now make up the Americas. So it is appropriate and makes sense that the name stuck, we had it first. OK I'll go put my soapbox back in the corner now................

Still not to bad. The only plastic I had to pull to do neck bearings was the same as for springs plus the front fender. I do not have the lower fairings on the bike or you might have to pull those to. -

The venture is easy to do springs, It literally took longer to get all of the tools jacks and stuff out and put away than it did to do the job. Changing the springs is an easy half hour job if you take your time and down a few wet ones while working on it. Once the bike is jacked up off the ground. Let all the air out of the front suspension. Pull the drain plugs on each fork. 2 screws to remove the plastic ignition switch cover and one connector for the cruise control lights. 2 big nuts to get off the plate that the Ignition cover was attached to. 1 screw each to remove the fill pieces from the fairing. 1 clamp bolt on each handlebar. Pull off the rubber cap on the top of each fork. 17mm hex driver to remove the fork cap. Pull out old spring and spacers. Put drain plugs back in. Fill with oil to proper level. Drop in new spring and spacers. Reassemble in reverse order of how it came apart. Go for ride. Literally the longest part of the job is waiting for the old oil to drain out. But you can be working on a cold one during that time. -

Based on that video the venture forks are a lot different than the V-Max forks. -
Someone tried to steal parts off my bike again.....$#%#??#

I think I would have pulled out my phone and took his pic and a pic of his license plate and turned it into the police. It might make more of an impression while he goes thru the process of going thu the system before he gets his wrist slapped and gets released. I must admit that I would likely have lost it when he said he was taking it because his son wanted it. -

I don't know it it would work to try to measure the factory preload. The factory springs are a bout 6 inches shorter than the progressives and wound from much thinner wire. -
It could also be as simple as a dirty connection to the battery.

:sign yeah that: Many "modern" chargers will not even try to charge a dead battery. You need to keep that good old cheap stupid charger around for the days when you drain a battery all the way down. OR You can connect jumpers from the dead battery to a good battery and then put the new charger on both batteries till the dead one is brought up enough for the smart charger to recognize it. This will fool most of the smart chargers. -
They NEVER specify which September.

I reduced the preload on the front springs today. It made the bike handle a lot better but I think there is still more to be had by further reduction in the preload.
