Sorry but my DGAS is broken. Can't worry too much about the Hollywood types.

If you've never been to this museum it's quite a place. It's in Northern VA and is in my area. Some low life must be looking to get their ass kicked for doing this. http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2010/oct/18/bullets-shatter-glass-marine-corps-museum-ar-570891/ By Julia LeDoux Published: October 18, 2010 TRIANGLE, Va. -- Vandals fired shots at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle early Sunday morning, causing approximately $20,000 worth of damage to the building’s glass roof and a steel wall at the base of the structure. Museum spokeswoman Gwenn Adams said the building was unoccupied at the time. The museum remains open to the public during the ongoing police investigation. “No artifacts were damaged,” she said. Approximately five holes could be seen in the glass roof, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok. Police did not know Monday what type of gun was used or where the bullets were fired from. The side of the building damaged faces Interstate 95. “The important thing for us is our visitors will not be impacted,” Adams said. “It does not take away from the overall experience of the museum.“ Marine Corps Base Quantico military police, Criminal Investigative Division, is assisting in the investigation. “The authorities are handling the investigation and we have full confidence that they will find the responsible party or parties,” said Adams. Adams noted that the museum has on-site security staff and is also equipped with security cameras that cover the interior and exterior of the property. Anyone with information relating to this case is asked to call Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS. You don’t have to give your name, just the information and you could earn up to a $1,000 cash reward. Military editor Julia LeDoux can be reached at 703-369-5718.

Don't Try this Kiddies. Not nice Border Guards.

Probably good advice regardless of what the patches say. If the officer is not a rider he/she may have no understanding of patches and riding groups. The biker gangs such as The Pagans and others have it to where even innocent groups can be scrutinized only because the officers can't be expected to know all the groups and their intent. I was at Hooters (for the food) the other day and there was a group of riders there wearing leather galore, bandanas and all the typical gear that some believe means hard core. On the back of all their jackets was a patch "Leathernecks" I believe. It was obvious to me these were all Marines or maybe former Marines but to the untrained eye they likely saw trouble when they saw them. -

I have to chuckle at the posts where if you are a LEO you get free passes all the time. Is it helpful at times? Sure it is. But not always. I taught a K9 seminar in Hamilton Ontario two years ago and five of us went there in two cars. Going into Canada wasn't too bad and they knew we were cops. How did they know? They asked why we coming into Canada so obviously our jobs came out. They didn't just wave us in but did ask several questions and looked at ALL of our passports. Coming back into the US was a little harder. Customs officer asked a lot of questions and it took a little but eventually we were back home. We answered the questions without cutting them off. We didn't act like we were better then them. -

Do you have any idea what's happened? -
Having never sat on a Wing I can't imagine what it's like but I hear if you're tall you won't be comfortable. True? I'm 6'5.

I left last week for a 2 week ride but had to cut it short due to an injury. I left Tenn today and drove 8 hours all the way on interstate. I made the turn off the interstate to the road that was four miles away to my home. I went to downshift to slow down at the ramp and couldn't find the shift lever. I looked over the side and it was hanging over on its side. I pulled over and sure enough the bolt had come out and was gone. I was only a few miles from a Yamaha dealership so I was able to hold it on with my boot and shift as needed to this shop where it was easily fixed. Moral of the story. Check this bolt. Something I've never bothered to look at.

Guys, I won't be in until late on Saturday now. I hope to be in the hotel by 4 at the latest. Sorry about that. I'm still waiting to hear what I have to be at the meeting on Sunday so I may be able to ride during the day if it's late enough. I'm having too much fun in WV. If you've never done RT 50 in WV I strongly suggest it at some time in your life. This road is so much fun that at times I was glad to see a straightaway just so I could relax.

More info in subject line welcoming new members
Bigfoot replied to Bigfoot's topic in Requests for Features
Thanks Don. When I go to check out the members profile I often don't see a name for the area they live in. Not sure why they would join then not put that basic info in. -
Thanks guys. Still not sure when I'll get in there. If I don't get in untl late on Saturday then I won't have but part of Sunday free. I might try and make it in there today though depending on how the ride is going.

I'll be coming into Kingsport on the bike either on Friday afternoon or Saturday afternoon. Starting on Sunday evening I'll be there to work a few days. Just wondering if anyone lives close and wants to try a dinner get together. I'll be staying at the Jameson inn. Also, any suggestions on roads to ride in the area would be appreciated.

Don, Just wondering if it would be possible to put just a tad bit more info in a welcome post for new members? When I see someone from VA being welcomed I try and find where they are from. Maybe adding their home town, if you have it, would be nice. Instead of "Welcome Joe from Va" it would be "Welcome Joe from Manassas, Va". If I see that someone is clear across the state then I'm less likely to bother them to see where they are. Just a thought.

That is pretty cool but pricey. Imagine that thing inflating while doing 70 down an interstate. Ykes.

If everyone here took the time to learn how many police officers you have working the street at any one time you might be shocked. Take that number and devide it into the number citizens in the city, town or county. You'll understand why the police can't be everywhere. Hell, I'm retired and I still carry when I leave the house. I live in a very safe neighborhood and I still lock the doors every time we go out. Everyone should be taking responsibility to protect your own. Although the police would like to protect everyone and arrest every bad guy but we all know this will never happen. Heck, even courts have ruled in lawsuits that the police are under no obligation to protect us. Every law abiding citizen should be allowed to carry but I believe it should be concealed. I do not like the open carry bit unless you're an on duty LEO but that's just my belief.

Seems I'm a little late but thought I'd throw my 02. in. I seriously doubt you'll find a police department to hold your firearm but you never know. I know there is no way mine would. The safe in the car idea is a good one if it is secured to something in the car. Otherwise what will just get carried away. I'd call the police department that covers this area and ask for stats for car break ins for this lot. This kind of stuff is public info. It might be on line as well. I have to laugh, in good fun, at the poster in Canada about never locking your doors. I went to Hamilton (Ontario I believe) last year to teach at a LE seminar. I was there for almost a week and learned a lot about Canada. At least this part of Canada. I know burglaries are a pretty big business for these officers and their 4 legged partners. So are other petty crimes. I know firearms are not the issue we have but there is still plenty of crime. That said. I have family in Minnesota that still never lock their doors and have never had a problem. Of course they live out in the middle of nowhere.

I've always had good luck with www.motorcyclesuperstore.com. Also good prices and they normally ship the day you order. -
I have an IPOD with a number of songs on it and the wife has the Shuffle with fewer songs on this. She would like to get a few songs off my IPOD to her Shuffle but I'm not sure if or how this can be done. Can I open my i tunes and unclick all of the songs then let her choose the ones she wants then hook hers to sync?

I have a Metzler coming in now to replace the rear Dunlop which had 4000 miles on it. Never again.

I hate admitting to this but I need to get it fixed so here goes. Back this early summer I finally got a chance to get out and ride for three days. Weather forecast was good and I was pumped. I had been working so many hours and neglecting the bike that NOTHING was going to stand in my way of this ride. Well, I pulled the bike out the day before to wash it and get it packed. Turns out the battery was dead and it appeared it may be a battery tender issue. I jumped it and drove it for 30 minutes and it seemed to be fine. Got up the next morning and had to jump it and it started right up. Every time I tried to put it in gear it would die on me. After jumping it 3 times and it dying all 3 times I'm afraid to say I punched the gas tank. Just below the gas cap. Well my big mitts put a good dent in the tank and I can see some slight cracks in the paint. Needless to say I was ready to punch myself after this. I guess what I'm looking for can this dent be pulled out without going to a professional using a dent puller or am I pretty much screwed needing a professional? And yes, I did learn a lesson. Punch the wife next time instead. J/K.

I have the Lenovo 17 inch laptop with the big battery. It will fit in the Venture trunk w/o the case. Way too big for trips so I went with the netbook.

Anyone here using a netbook and have an opinion on them? I'd like to get one for trips on my MC. I'm taking a 2 week trip in Oct and I'd rather not lug around my 17 inch laptop. I won't need a writing program or anything special. Just the ability to surf the net.
