  1. I know people warn about that, but on my car, the HID lights come on with the ignition switch and go off when starting and then back on. Been doing that for 6 years.
  2. Of course not, and change your oil and all filters every 1000 miles.
  3. I've always considered the weights on the rim to be there to balance the rim and consequently I have have never removed them. I have never balanced a motorcycle tire and have never felt the need. But then I only buy Metzeler's or Michelin's who know how to make a motorcycle tire.
  4. It's there so you can flip it off while talking to your buddy. Then laugh when they can't get their bike started. :rotf: Same way we used to reach down and flip the choke lever up on the sportster's while riding beside them. :rotf:
  5. Yeah, and a daddy to pay for it.
  6. Don't forget the Nebraska National Forest.
  7. I got a Liberty Motorcycle Radar Detector. Made around 1992. Been on the bike every since and apparently still works. The HP boys in Ohio and Illinois checked it out for me. The main unit is mounted the the right fairing and has a remote control head that I mounted in the right dash vent. It's wired into my helmet audio.
  8. It's a 30 amp system. 10 ga is rated for 30 amps. 12 ga is rated for 20 amps.
  9. I don't know when they changed, but my '89 does NOT have a wire in the bolt. And no I don't know what size the hole is. I really don't see how the hole could plug up if there's oil flowing thru it all the time. It seems counterproductive to make the hole bigger and than stick a wire in it. It also seems counterproductive to make a High Output stator when people are having problems with stators burning up. I think I would use a later model bolt if it was me.
  10. I looked at mine. I fiberglassed a .062 alum plate to the front side of the trunk and reinforced the inside with more fiberglass and maybe some metal, but I couldn't see it. I did this 15 or more years ago and it still holding.
  11. There's a drop off, but it's not straight down. I think you could ride down either side on a dirt bike. Since I haven't ran off the road in the last 100,000 miles, I wasn't worried about that 50 yards.
  12. We've did #1 and #11 when we had the bike in europe in 2000. #2 looks like it would get boring after a while.
  13. I did the same thing except on the hot side, I ran a 10 ga wire to the front and spliced it in at the main fuse. On the ground side, I ran a short 10 ga wire to the closest bolt on the frame.
  14. That's MTA http://www.mtariders.com/v3/
  15. It's got a lot of highway miles, so a lot of time. I'll check the hose out to see if it's getting soft.
  16. I'm not in a real big hurry, like I say, it works when it's hot. Went out and looked for mine. Had to cut a nylon tie to lower the main harness that goes across the top of the head light opening to see it. It's in the top of the fairing about a half inch to the left of center as you're looking at the bike. It in a rubber holder and will pull out.
  17. We just got back from a trip and the cruise control is getting a little lazy. Works, but not quite as responsive as it used to be. Has anybody tried replacing the vacuum pump or maybe reworking it? Since it's on all the time the bike's running, it got a lot of time on it.
  18. My turn signals have become cold blooded. They only work when it's above about 72* (not a problem right now) I'm assuming it's a sealed unit and no fixing possible. I believe the part no. is 41R-83350-71-00. Does anybody have a spare?
  19. Can't sense the pressure without letting a little out.
  20. My first bike was a '57 Harley. I've never worried about oil leaks since.
  21. My advice is to install a grease zerk in the steering head so you can grease the bearings from time to time and keep the water out. Riding in the rain is what washes the grease out and causes the bearings to go bad.
  22. I want to thank you for starting this thread. My right highway peg has been missing since sometime in Alaska and I've been putting off doing anything about it. I needed to do something and you provided the solution. Thanks,
  23. PM sent. All I need is the peg, but it's up to you if you want to take it apart. I had the drill the head off the bolts to remove the clamp last night. Those pegs have been on there for 20 years or so.
  24. Mine are just like those or was before the right one flew away. I'll take the bottom one. Let me know what shipping will cost and I'll paypal you or whatever.
