selling my venture stuff
cruiserlover replied to cruiserlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
most definitely I am on the xj forum.A vendor there makes it possible to restore, maintain, fix anything a xj owner could ever need.I have found many other bikes I liked but had no support.Ventures and goldwings, the honda 4s have a huge fan base.I never even heard of a maxim till a couple months ago. They got lost in the ujm shuffle. They are great bikes. -
selling my venture stuff

this guy,his name is mike, he has never owned or worked on a venture.I hope he asks me a lot of questions. And i will direct him here too.I will show pictures of the mess I started with on this xj. -
Next tuesday a guy about my age is coming to get all 3 of my ventures.I dont plan on any more big bikes.I have my xj650 running, just need to do a couple things.I seldom ride over 50 miles anymore.Just true pleasure rides. I have always thought the venture is the best touring bike. Not many other people do compared to wingers and harley fans.I know different.I really did not like my 99 and 01 bikes. The seats are very uncomfortable and they just seemed too topheavy.I suppose the 18 model is different.I have the xj650,one rider and 1 for parts.Great fun and fast little bikes.I may own another royal star tour deluxe, about a 2005 model, but no more ventures. Steven tyler was lucky he got some cheap parts from me before they were all gone.

where are the parts I sold you? -
Neither of my 83s is worth messing with.one turns over good and I have a title. But so much is off of it its not worth my time.My 86 I had running not long ago but now the starter is out.Plus I have only a bill of sale,no title and much of the front fairing sidepieces are broken.I have plastic to replace the broken parts but will have to paint them black and gold.I would love to sell all 3 of them in a package deal. Which leads to the question. There are 2 great looking bikes on cl for 1500.One is a black and gold 86 with 100,000 miles. The other is the burgundy color 83 with a broken speedometer showing 18,000 miles and it needs a front tire. But it looks great otherwise.based on this information which would you buy? I text both sellers, neither answered.kbb shows tradein on the 86 to be about 1300 and avg retail is 2300.the 83 is about 1100 and 1800. For sure I have parts for either of them.

For about 2 years on this forum we posted what the new venture should be.unanimously the second gen with a vmax motor.and no cassette player.yamahawent lightyears in the opposite direction.i hope the new versions sell.they have plenty of bells and whistles. To me the venture is a mix of roadstar mixed with goldwing and victory crosscountry. -

I told packand mail i might have business cards made and start doing custom packing.if they needed me to help with their work they could use my service.the little girl smiled and said We might call you sometime. Im thinking she wasnt sincere. -
I like the idea of members items having priority.ebay and cl are always there and this forum isnt needed to check there.

I may have talked to don once before.I am not sure.I could not get my signon and password to work and a guy called me and fixed it.He also said he was the one that started venturers.org.That is a good site, but i like this one a lot better. For one, if I asked a question there if they thought i already ought to know the answer they never responded. On another some guys would have you dismantling many things on your motorcycle to fix what they diagnosed.most of the time on these and nearly any other bike a lot of fixes are simple. As it has been said here by a few members, dont throw money at it till you to get the right thing bought .installed.Anyhow, if that was don, it was nice to talk to him.I have the 86 I need to put a starter on even though several times I have been told that might not be the problem.I know it is now since flyin fool gave me a whole bunch of things to check first. i can do anything to a car. Bikes are similar but very different at the same time. I dont want anybody to get mad or make anyone mad. If i did I apologize. Gotta go now. Thanks guys for everything. I spent 5 hours on my xj650 and now have it running like a top.Thank god for parts bikes.I installed new disc pads today. But I had to transplant the mastercylinder, the caliper, the seat, handlebars, sidecover, headlight bucket and a new headlight.Still have to transplant the signals. Has anyone under the age of 60 ever heard of jis screwdrivers. The kid had put flat dragbars on.Which made the mastercylinder sit at about a 45 degree angle. Then he rounded out the slots in the screws, which led to a destroyed cover and need for replacement which fortunately I had. Then I will install the front fender. He had taken the stock seat, whittled it down to nearly nothing. He was going to CAFE it he said.I saved it. My black 86 I manged to destroy the left side of the fairing, but i have a maroon one.I bought black paint and had an autopaint store mix the gold to put on the accents later. It should be nice when it is running.A weird problem is it sits too straight up.A little too much turn of the handlebars either direction and it falls over. One guy said it was because the front springs were worn out.It needs to lean a little bit, then it wouldnt stand up so straight.Getting on the centerstand is not possible.I have never been able to do it. see yall later.

I have one 83 in my garage.the motor turns over good. The former guy had removed all the plastic.I have that.He thought it needed a tci.He bought a used one, put it on, said the bike started and ran then quit and never started again. It was the gold and white one.I took nearly all the allen bolts out of the left sidecover because i thought that was how to get to the starter bolts.I have those laying somewhere. The other 83 in the back yard has been in the weather at least a year.the tci and starter, carbs, are all missing. All the rest is there plus the plastics, in burgundy.I sold the right fairing half and saving the left for my 86 because that side is busted on my bike.My 86 looked good till i dropped it getting it off the trailer. It has not title, just a bill of sale I would write. It would be $300 if someone wanted the whole bike.parts off of it would sell for several times more.I had it running pretty well but now it seems the starter is out.Just a click.New battery, good connections. That is why I was taking the one off the 83 to see if i could get the 86 running again. Its black and gold.Anyone interested email me ronbayless57@gmail.com

you said you got the parts.are they ok? need anything else? -
I did put my ad every way I knew how in the classifieds section here.members have asked where? I don't see it, etc. I am not trying to violate rules.First of all I didnt know there was a rule. Then freebird said i couldnt do that i saw another member had parts listed in this forum so i thought it was because my parts were mentioned in a random thread and not just for sale that i could do it that way.Forums have to have rules.I abide them when I fully understand them.I am also a member of venturers.org. Very inferior to this forum, but thats my opinion, not necessarily the same as others. Guys like flyin fool and cowpuc are huge help to me.I appreciate that.I have had ventures x 7. But because the nature of the bike doesnt need repair much I am not familiar with all its problems and how to fix them. So to anyone and everyone here, I am sorry for violating the rules. And if someone can tell me why my ad is not findable by others that would be helpful.parts for old ventures are plentiful if one knows where to look.As in a venture forum. Thanks ya'll. (contraction for you all).

I have 2 complete 83s.well, one is outside,no carbs.but the other is complete.would probably start if I wanted to buy another tci.It turns over great like it wants to.I have all the plastics, guardrails, seats, all that stuff.Like I said one is complete, the other is minus the starter and tci, really a true parts bike. The plastics are removed from both bikes. Most of the plastic is useable, some has a chipped out piece here and there.the saddlebags, trunks, false tank covers are in good shape.one is gold and white, the partsier outside one is burgundy. removing weight
cruiserlover replied to cruiserlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This is my opinion, and probably not just my opinion. but the vmax is the coolest muscle bike ever made. A stripped down first gen is a close second to performance. The vmax has different intake cams and higher compression heads. The exhaust cams are the same. They both have that smallblock roar when the throttle is opened up.It would be smarter and cheaper to buy a used vmax.Only the problem is the vmax is good only in a straight line. The venture is made for comfort touring and handling. It has roughly 98 hp to 145 for the vmax. I wish I had some sort of scale to weigh all this stuff on.I bet 100 pounds removal would easily be achieved. I sure do have lots of 83 parts nobody seems to be interested in. -
removing weight
cruiserlover replied to cruiserlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I got the title in my name on one of them yesterday.I would trade it, the parts bike, and all the ugly plastics for another project bike,250 cc or bigger.I got my xj650 going yesterday. What a fantastic bike.Lighter is better,no doubt, for me. Yes, those mufflers are giant cannons. -
I dont know if i will ever take my 2 83s and combine them for one stripped bike or not.I was wondering if anyone knows-if the rear subframe, all the handles and plastics, huge old radio etc are removed how much weight is that? I know some have made a cruiser version out of theirs,I was wondering the stock weight is about 850 with oil and gas, the stripped version I am thinking might be 100 pounds less.

rodded or custom first gens
cruiserlover replied to cruiserlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
that is an odd place for the gas cap.You must be using the stock tank and the tank in the picture is a cover? Have you ridden both the fulldress venture.I was wondering how much lighter and easier to ride it is the way yours is done. -
