Thanks for all the input.I appreciate it.I still have my xj 650 81 model I am working on and it will be my intown and highway short trip bike.This is my 8th venture.I am very used to and have some knowledge of them.I love them.But my age and willingness to countersteer is just making it not the right bike for me.I too find the madura just a little too rare of a bike.It cant even be found on cycletrader.I told the guy it is a no go.Tomorrow is my birthday.It has been 105 degrees here.So tomorrow early morning I am taking the old girl out for at least a 100 miles. There are precious few bikes with a stock seat that is comfortable including the second gens.The firs gen seat is perfect.makes all day sitting easy.But the weight is making it hard.

My beautiful 87 venture i have decided to trade or sell and get a lighter bike.A guy wants to trade an 86 1200 madura.I read up.Great bikes it seems, but are very rare.Probably finding replacement parts difficult.And on 35 year old bikes that becomes important.His is 200 pounds lighter.They have selfadjusting valves.117 hp.I know everyone says they would never get rid of their venture.But i have just gotten tired of the weight. I dont want to strip it down.Plus some guys have thinking they would take lots of weight off when in fact much plastic removed only drops the weight about 50 pounds.Please give me your input.

Somewhere there is a thread on this subject.I bought a set of used ones from a member here.I intend using them on my 81 xj650. However i want to use the same technique to make some for my 87 venture. I got the controls today in the mail.I will post pictures.They are heavy duty on the control side, but flimsy on the linkage side.The member here said he didnt know how i was going to get one broken bolt out.a nub was sticking out.vice,pb blasterm vice grips.came right out.lots of white oxidation on the threads.To describ-there is a heavy,probably 5/16inch thick mounting bracket,goes up by down tubes.probably engine through bolt goes through 1 hole.it has a hollow tube, about 3/4 inch diameter.That tube is welded onto the wing of the mounting plate.a long bolt goes through the middle of it,about 4 inches.its threaded on the end.the peg and brake assembly is one piece.but the brake peg is moveable, it can rotate around.as it should so the brake can ba applied.That long bolt threads into the peg assembly, the threads run bout an inch deep.The pegassembly also has a mounting type wing, with a hole drilled through the bottom.Through that hole a bolt slips through it, secured with a nut.chrome acorn would look good.That bolt is made onto a tube at 90 degree angle.That tube reaches back to the rear brake attachment. it also has a 90 degree attachment,bolt through a hole,nut on the bolt.The rear brake pedal assembly appears to be homemade.a stock one that has the pedal cut off and a hole in the bottom where this rod goes through.dime city has a better piece that would look and function better. that completes the brake side.The shifter side.mounting bracket,hollow tube,long bolt screws inside peg assembly.linkage through to either end,nut on the small bolts.the shifter peg assembly that is pinch bolted on the motor has the peg cut off.its turned perpendicular,90 degrees instead of parallel to the ground.hole in the bottom of it.bolt through that,bolt made onto linkage.simple but functional. The pegs are very heavy duty knurled look like maybe galvanized steel or very heavy aluminum or stainless.

I am so happy.Its real manual,not a haynes or clymer.Its as big as a phonebook.Pictures I can actually see the details, probably 350 pages.They cost near a 100 bucks if one can be found at all.I got this one off ebay for $28

I just saw this.I am getting a used and abused set in the mail soon that were on an xj750.When I get the fabricating going i can share the pics with you if you want.I have done this before,not on a big bike.I know some basic things to do first if you are interested.

too good to be true.there is a scam here going on.They post a sensational deal with only 1 picture.You respond.They say give me your email address I can show you a lot more pictures.You do.Then they have a portal to your stuff.I fell for it ona bike.Its been for sale now for 2 months.So I know its a scam.There was an immaculate sportster for 800, an immaculate voyager for 1200, a shadow tour for 1000, an 08 vulcan 900 for 1,000. I even responded to one of them.I said clever scam.He never made another attempt to get anything from me.

ok. this bike is near perfect.The battery is staying up. I didnt do anything one way or the other except inadvertently disconnect that resistor. Its been 107 degrees.My next day off at about 4 am I am going to pull into the garage and check this out.friday 6/8.thanks a bunch for the help.

so, the answer is? Can that loose wire drain the battery? I rode today and no problem, but maybe thats because a slow drain is going on?

if the pegs and the bearings that rotate around the post coming from a point mounted on the fork tubes is intact i think I can fabricate the linkage.I will have to buy something to connect the back brake.If you find them i would like to see what you have

mY BEAITIFUL 87 i JUST GOT 2 DAYS AGO.i WENT OUT TO START IT.BATTERY ALMOST COMPLETELY DEAD.lIGHTS CAM ON, BUT starter would barely crank.I took the battery to autozone.Only had 2% charge.Guy said something is draining my battery.After 1 hour charge it fired right up no problem.When riding the voltmeter shows about 14, hard to tell the exact number.This wire is sticking out, a silver wire that the end was bent hooklike it was used to be under a screw somewhere, maybe the pos battery post,what is it and could it have caused the battery to run down.My battery is a 2016 according to them so I know it could be about worn out.

I know rick.ive been to his house twice.he did my 99 and 01 seat.i haven't owned a first gen since 2003 except for the 3 parts bikes and they werent rideable.im glad the CLASS works on this one.the back was pressured to 44.i decreased to 29.front is 11.amazind difference.im very surprised.i cant flatfoot it but im not doing ballet style now either.im not sure how low i can go and still have suspension.

This is my 6th first gen,8th venture overall.The second gen seat was lower, just didnt like the bike.This is of course not the first time i have had this problem.My legs are just too short.On my others i tried to wear boots with taller heels but most of the time i am just wearing sneakers.I lean on the left leg at lights, can never flatfoot the bike.The first gen seats are so comfortable, i hate to try and modify one.By removing some foam i might lower the bike by an inch.Then it needs reupholstering.Mine does anyway. But i dont want to have a wonderful seat become an uncomfortable one. I saw that barons made lowering kits for the second gen bikes.Rider reviews were not all that great.Lower is not the only goal.Apparently the kit made handling more of a chore at certain speeds.First I have to rig up some forward controls.I have a plan for that. But in the driveway, turning the bike aroud, or sitting at a redlight, the bike is just too dang tall.I hate to think about changing the front springs, that would take a jillion things to be removed.And the back a caliper relocation, removing the saddlebags and axle, all part of the chore. Always before i just grinned and bore it.These bikes are not really made for intown riding. I got the bike yesterday and the seller rode it from his driveway to the trailer since he had a gravel driveway.But he was 6ft 5 and 300 pounds.It fit him good.All suggestions appreciated.

I did not tell the story about this bike.It is not just my 8th venture.It is , but it is special.I rented a truck and trailer, went to weatherford texas,75 miles to get it. the guy Mike that took the money gave me the title told the story.it belonged to a lifelong friend.he and a few others had ridden all over the usa on their bikes.This friend had gotten leukemia, was very ill, and died in february this year.He told mike before he died if he got out of the hospital he sure would like to go on another trip.But his bike needed things done first.Mike and another friend took the bike, had new tires,new closed cell battery, complete carb clean and service, new k and n airfilter all done.It only had 76 miles on it since the work was done. They showed pictures of the roadready bike to their friend before he died. That man was so appreciative. So the bike is great, but the story is much better.

I dont have any money right now but I know what I am going to do.I already have pclamps and kury pegs,but that doesnt work because the stock crashbars shape.I cant reach way up front like 1 picture here.dime city universal controls for $149 plus the rear brake kit for $59 and it will work great.Shipping and all the price will be about 250,260ish.I still dont have tags so I just rode around the neighborhood.It kills my right leg being flexed like that.The left leg of course is fine.

I have believed for a long time the fairings are too heavy and play heck with the fork seals.I have taken the radio and amp out a few times.But the bike I got yesterday is almst perfect so I am leaving all the stuff there.I think the springs and oil weight should have fixed your problem.I own one too, I would like to know the answer to this.

I have a bunch of stuff I have accumulated.Some like yall show here.I cant get adjusted to the midmount position.Because in 2001 a guy rearended me while i was sitting at a redlight.My honda at the time only had 432 miles on it.I went flying and rolling.My right knee cant stay flexed in a normal position ever since then.It has to be extended. I have the pieces,just dont have the time yet.I am off today, but the heat index is expected to be 107.

I sold all my venture stuff yesterday.the guy rolled out with the last of it except for one pure parts bike still in the back yard at about 630 pm..As of 846 pm today I now have a gorgeous black and silver 87 in my driveway.26 hours without a venture.I bet none of ya'll have gone that long. the tires battery oil change and k and n filter have 76 miles on them.I can hardly wait to go riding, but first insurance tags and registration.I also will need to quickly put some sort of highway pegs because i cant drive with midmounts.Thats the only thing i liked about my second gen bikes.I have lots of brackets,p clamps, stuff to maybe get some made somehow.The former owner has some mounted on the stock crashbars.But they are so high in the air.Its like to ride with those you would be almost recumbent.I will try moving those around but most likely it wont work.The radio,all the bells and whistles all work.

this is my starting point.the silver one runs and rides but no brakes.I am getting tired of the whole thing, I might just sell all of it.The venture stuff is gone.And guess what, now there are 4 more like the 86 I just sold and for a price cheaper than i could have ever got mine done for.I may have another venture by tomorrow.geez.I need help.getting it home,nothing else. the donor bike has given me the master cylinder,front fender,soon the signal lights,headlight,one sidecover,soon the footpegs,seat,gastank,soon to be the luggage rack, and brake caliper.I am so struggling with not buying an 86 and 87 first gen on CL I saw yesterday.I need to delete the photo of the parts bike first gen but cant figure out how to.

I figure he created and owns the forum.He knows more about the xj than anybody else.
