Windshield Trouble on 07 venture
midnightventure replied to Tonto01's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My Venture was also missing those bolts. The front wheel was installed backwards too. -
New Enough Tourmaster Riding Gear - Armor Question

I have also bounced down the highway at high speed. All my broken ribs were in the area covered by the back pad. -
I currently have the smaller tire on. When it is wore out I will put the stock size back on. It does handle better at parking lot speeds but the wind blows me around a lot more now.

The pictures are all very good. I like the third one that Freebird posted also.

I rode to work here in Mo. Monday. Plan to go for a ride tomorrow. Just have to decide which bike.

I was in Estes Park Co a few years ago. In a very upscale shop I saw some nice looking shirts. I looked at the price tag and thought it was out of my range and walked away. Then I thought , well maybe they were American made and went back and looked. They were made in Pakistan.

Looks good. We'll know its you coming down the road because its one of a kind.

I have a TOMTOM 1. If there is a way to specify an exact route I haven't found it so we argue a lot before she finally agrees with me when I insist on taking the road less traveled. At the end of a 300 mile day on curvy roads and I missed the curve sign it is nice to be able to look at the screen and see how sharp a corner is coming up. I knocked it out of my trunk at a campground and it got rained on all night. It took a few days of drying and a recharge from the laptop but it came back and has been fine. I like what the Garmin owners are saying about being able to setup a route on the computer and downloading it.

Dual sports are a ton of fun.

I used to work with a guy that lead a survey crew in Alaska. He used to tell me that he always kept one fat guy on the crew. (Somebody he could out run). I think he was just kidding about that, but I think he was serious when he said that they hired natives to kill problem bears because they could do it legally.

leather & helmet saved my skin-Kevlar better?
midnightventure replied to dharnie's topic in Safety and Education
In the winter I wear a Aerostich Roadcrafter suit. Very good protection and also very expensive (American Made). In the summer I wear Joe rocket Mesh. I'm sure it isn't as good of protection but I can wear shorts under it and go to work. Aerostich has done testing and according to them leather grabs the pavement and causes more tumbling. With synthetic you will probably go farther but you will start sliding sooner. -
The fussing between the first and second generation owners does seem to be in fun and almost between family but the Harley stuff gets mean. They provide quite a few good paying American jobs. Just because the stock price is down right now doesn't mean the company is about to fold.

I remember the thread where somebody was bad mouthing unions. It seems like a lot of people look for oppurtunties to badmouth Harley. A lot of people who have never owned a Harley. I wish that everybody would just think before they post that with 6000 members that there is a good chance that they are going to offend somebody. There was a Harley guy that left a while back because he got tired of it. When I had a Harley and was on a Harley site it bothered me when somebody would say something about jap crap since I owned one of each. The only reason I got rid of mine was money. I could sell it for what I paid for it.

It doesn't sound like he did it on purpose. -
Carb Balancing
midnightventure replied to 1sttenor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the Carbtune II and could help you with it. I also have a set of Motion Pro mercury sticks that I would sell for $25.00. I have been afraid of trying to sell them on Ebay because I would have to ship them and with the mercury issue I don't know if I could. -
Heres mine. I used a cooler at first for the compartment but the walls were real thick so I built a wooden box just a little bigger all the way around. I have pulled it about 3000 miles. It pulls great ( forget its back there) and doesn't affect the gas mileage at all. The best part is my wife is going a lot more because she has room to haul stuff.

Sometimes the signs are so far out in front of the construction I forget that there is construction coming up.

You can also use a tie down strap around the center of the tire. When you tighten the strap the bead squeezes out to the wheel.

1973 Yamaha RD250. In one years time I wrecked it 3 times and put 10000 miles on it.

Micarl is right. I am going to stop trying to think that early. I had it backwards. I was just out in my garage working and realized I was wrong. The check valve is just to help get the motor started so it won't be trying to start against pressure. Once the motor is running it doesn't really matter.

You could put larger pulley on the motor. That would slow the compressor.

New Enough Tourmaster Riding Gear - Armor Question
midnightventure replied to RoadKill's topic in Riding Gear
When I crashed all my broken ribs where in the back. I won't ride very far without armor in the back area now. -
I quess I should have gotten that because I used to shoot actual wooden matches out of a pellet gun when I was a kid.
-
How long did it take to get it? I've been reading a guy that goes by Bigdog at http://www.bigdogadventures.com/ that does a lot of off road riding. Lots of pictures of great scenery.
