  1. So did this come out OK?
  2. A few years ago there was a lying braggart on here that claimed he rode through the Darien Gap. He was always making wild claims about what he did but never posted pictures. Here is an old video of a group that did make it through. A lot of work and support. And the jungle reclaimed what they did pretty quick. I thought a few people might enjoy watching it.
  3. It would seem like if anybody could work from home it would be Paypal employees. Of course India might not have those capabilities.
  4. Certainly no doctor but you might have pinched a nerve. When everybody wakes up I bet you get a lot of advice that you should see a doctor to get checked out.
  5. I would pull the starter relay and check to see if it is showing closed all the time just because it is a simple thing to do. See if most of the rest of the problems correct themselves. Having a fully charged battery would be a good idea before trying to figure anything out. When my wife's Mustang's battery gets low the radio starts playing on it's own.
  6. When I had my one bad accident in 2005 one of the first responders said they had a helicopter on the way. I had heard they were extremely expensive. I told him to send it back. As long as you don't get on it can't charge you. The ambulance ride was excruciating but I imagine a helicopter ride would have been too and probably wouldn't have saved 15 minutes. Of course I was only about 20 miles from the hospital. If I had been in the middle of nowhere I might have chosen differently.

  8. There is often function key that turns something on and off that gets pushed accidentally. Take a good look at them. There are USB adapters. I bought one off Amazon for a netbook I have. It didn't cost much. I also haven't used it much to test it. I bought it to hook up to a OBD2 bluetooth dongle that I bought before I had a smart phone.
  9. I have put tubes in 30 year old tires on a Murray mower that I inherited from my Dad. The tires were pretty cracked and I ran it for several years. The tires never failed.
  10. Freebird, Thanks for cluing us in to this issue. Much better to take care of it now than when I want to use it.
  11. So I just activated getting a code through my cell phone and when I did that a page showed up to deactivate the key.
  12. So does anybody know how to deactivate the security key? I had to deal with their foreign service a while back when I switched banks. They kept asking security questions that made absolutely no sense. Very frustrated and I think I ended up just adding the new bank and leaving the old one because I couldn't get it deleted.

  14. Surely if they catch the boat owner his insurance will have to pay for everything? I bet the rider is wishing he had more gear on.
  15. I bet he was wishing he had been wearing more gear.
  16. I was riding through N.M. a few years ago through what looked like basically dry flat land. Saw a bunch of cars parked out in the middle of nowhere. Turned out to be a bridge over the Rio Grand Gorge. A pleasant surprise and worthy of stopping and taking pictures. Went on east through Taos and ran into some mountains I wasn't expecting. Slowed me down but fun anyway. Then I went north on I25 to Raton. Just east of Raton is a little town called Capulin. There is an extinct volcano called Mt. Capulin close to there that is a national monument. Another pleasant surprise. Narrow road winds around and around up to the top. One of the few places that I had no desire to exceed the speed limit. If any of these are close to your route they would be worthy of visiting. Of course with the wide open spaces in the west there can be a lot of miles involved getting somewhere. I was just in California in a rental car heading for Yosimite. Got to 8 miles from the entrance and ther was fire blocking the highway. I had to drive 190 miles to make that 8 miles. If I had been riding my Tenere I think I could have found a shorter route but driving a rental the 190 miles seemed the best way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grande_Gorge_Bridge https://www.nps.gov/cavo/index.htm The picture of Capulin doesn't begin to show how high it actually is when your on top.
  17. I have been keeping 2 AGM batteries on Battery Tenders for the last several years and they have held up well. If the connections are clean it sounds like a bad battery although I would probably do a lot more testing before I condemned it. I have seen a bike put out 13.5 volts when first started and the voltage start dropping later.
  18. I have the Yamaha Tenere that is their competition for the Africa Twin. I really like it. It is pretty quick and handles well on the highway and can also cut between on gravel really well also. The prices on 3 year old bikes have really dropped because Yamaha dumped a whole bunch of brand new 2013s on the market. I got mine with 36000 miles and $4000 in accessories for $7800 last fall. The only problem is that it is awful easy to ride fast. I'm still putting more miles on the Venture because it is my work bike and I am saving the Tenere for long trips.
  19. It's funny, I don't have a problem with people that drive fast because they are usually paying attention but I hate drivers using cell phones.
  20. Country isn't country anymore but then they gave the most awards to Chris Stapleton who sounds pretty country to me. The rapping country bothers me too. That's why my mp3 players are loaded with old country and old rock. Well maybe some Celtic and Native American mixed in there too.
  21. 30 some years ago I worked for the cable company. We were supposed to turn off tvs and unplug them when we were checking customer complaints. Of course we didn't waste time following the rules. A lady and her 2 little kids were watching when I disconnected the cable from the matching transformer. My little finger touched one of the antenna terminals while my opposite hand had hold of the Rg59. The tv had been struck by lightning (probably through the cable) and the twin lead had melted off the old analog tuner and had fallen down into the high voltage part of the set. The voltage ran through my little finger and up through my shoulders and back out my other hand. I screamed and finally got loose. Scared them to death. For months afterwards I would roll over in bed and throw my shoulder out of it's socket. Still have a scar on the end of my left pinky.

  23. I have been to China and witnessed the driving there. 4 lanes of traffic going both ways on a modern highway and a scooter going through the middle of it in the wrong direction. When they walk they have a cell phone glued to their ear but when they drive they pay attention because they have to. My son is married to a Chinese national and has lived in Xiamen China for several years. He thought it would be funny to holler " Now we are going to die." when we climbed into a taxi while we were visiting. The Taxi drivers are the most aggressive drivers I have ever seen. Very skilled but time is money. I don't know were that video is from but it reminds me of China.
  24. There was a string of traffic stopped and 2 vehicles behind you failed to notice?
