 Ok I agree.... yes.... when a battery is new out of the box it must be charged for a number of hours with a proper and full rated charger. If you are leaving a bike...car... bus even, for any length of time yes a trickle charger is recommended to keep battery in crank and go condition. BUT..... I.... you.... should not have to plug your bike in every night when you park it so the battery will work tomorrow when you are on your way to work. My brother has an 06 BMW 1200GS and his bike kept just stalling out... quitting on him... after some time the dealer replaced his battery that at the time was not even 12 months old and they asked him how often he charged it up.... he rides his bike to work every day.... he had 5 days last winter he did not ride his bike due to bad weather. Why is my battery in my van 6 yrs old and has not let me down once with out ever being charge outside of the van..... and yes I know it is on borrowed time now. :confused24: :canada::canada:

Hello from Victoria, Last fall my 86 started doing the same thing.... I had lots of help from here but the end result was so simple it was stupid. In my clean up of the bike one day I knocked off the small rubber boot(cap) that plugged the "test Port" for syncing the carbs off the intake on one cylider. Check it out make sure there is no open ports. I may be up in Vernon next summer for the aniversery of the Cadet Camp. My youngest son attended this sumer for 2 1/2 weeks for training. I have a buddy with some vintage (WWII) militarty jeeps and he may have me drive one up there for him for the 60th Aniversery so it is likely my son will return for more training also Best of Luck Ride Safe:canada::canada:

I love the new pegs I got for fathers day... I am using the #800 peg with the hardware to mount to the engine bars on my '86. They look awsome with all the chrome and are way comfortable to use on all my rides, long and short. http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=metric&ci=3262 :canada:

a buddy of my brothers has proven the hard wired whistle does work..... but..... what he did was watched for the family of deer that enjoy eating his garden to show up one evenning then hooked up the whistle and sure enough no more deer. He has left this unit hooked up for days in his yard and his garden is doing very well now.... no deer. so this proves that the deer will scatter when they hear the whistle.... the problem with being a rider is.... you never know what way they will scatter... I am sure it will scare them.... but what do you want a slow moving happy grazing deer to deal with or a scared freaked out running away deer.....

I totally agree with the idea of keeping info with you to help if "IT" ever happens. My son rides a bicycle alot.... as in 100s of miles per year for pleasure and compition. "IT" could happen to him also..... this is what we are doing for him.... it is called "road ID"..... it can work for those of us that ride something with a few more horses..... check it out.... http://www.roadid.com/Common/default.aspx?referrer=4186

99 Trunk Needs Major Repair
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to FROG MAN's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok I know very little about auto refinishing..... less about trunks...... BUT...... I am a plumber and I know ABS..... I know you can go to an industrial plastic shop and purchase 1/8th inch or 1/4 inch sheet ABS....... IF these trunks are actualy ABS then with a sheet of repair product in hand you can easily cut this to size and shape and go to a local plumbing suplier and purchase ABS cement that plumbers use to bond the drainage piping together..... this product will bond the repair part to the original ABS permenantly.... This is all a guess with the assumtion that the trunk is ABS as I know ABS. Let me know if I should stick to plumbing....... Kevin -
Just to post some pics of bikes and snow.... ooh and by the way I had to go to the USA to find the snow. We have not seen that much snow here for about 10 years.... Me on my 86 Venture and my brother on his 06 BMW 1200GS..... The back ground is the Olympic Peninsula in beatiful Washington State. What a fantastic place to ride... clean and simply just awsome views and I love the road surfacing..... Ride safe and have fun all

Is it leagal in your area to install a car tire on a bike? In this part of Canada it is not. Our local PDs' and the RCMP are stopping and checking most all bikes to check for proper drivers permits and bike alterations and the tires are noted in the memo I saw..... Recently myself and 536 other riders did a little ride to raise money for Prostate Cancer...... I have tried to attach a link to some of the pictures..... hope it works. Victoria is realy a small city of a little around 400,000 so to have this many bikes in one place was HUGE. The organizers expected around 250 to join the ride..... Local PD blocked all traffic through our main streets to let us parade..... then we went on a 215km (133 mile) poker run. http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/vis/content.php?doc=534 ride on.....

South Seattle is great.... I am on west coast of Canada so the parts are here quick, (UPS).... I even phoned once to find out what hours the store was open.... it was like 7:30 PM and they answered the call and took my order by phone so it would be processed that night and shipped in the morning....... They have my '86 total parts breakdown and cost right there...... Kevin

I agree with Popeye..... I live in a rainy wet area here on the west coast. I ride year round and yes in the summer the tall shield is fantastic for riding, but, come the wet weather in fall and winter, it IS dangerous. I am going to take mine off and have a plastic shop shorten it down for me..... as the Venture is the first "big" bike I have had it is a live and learn experiance. And I do like the live part............. ride safe Kevin

I am kind of new to the motorcycle scene. I have worked with cars since I was a kid. I purchased a totaly perfect '86 Venture last summer. As I use it regular I desided to change plugs and oil over the christmas break. Then wile out riding last week it started to back fire when I get off the gas and some times when I am warming it up it will pop slightly. Have I got a plug loose.... what a bear to change plugs on..... ? Have I disturbed something...... a carb rubber? The local shops just shake thier heads and say live with it or scrap it. any recommendations from other riders would be helpful Kevin Victoria BC Canada
