  1. I hate to see ads like this but I guess it will happen to all of us at some point. This fellow was soooo happy when he found this bike and had great plans for it... and him. So anyone looking for an '86 that has been well ridden and well cared for...... or just drop him a note to send your good wishes. http://www.vibikers.com/forum/index.php?topic=2865.0
  2. Any time you leave from a US port you will have to stop in a Canadian port of call.... I do recommend the stop in Victoria!
  3. Wife and I were given an Alaskan Cruise for our 50th birthdays this year (sailed in mid August) by our kids and families. We went from Vancouver which is about 3 hrs from our house by bus and ferry. We checked our bags at the bus depot in Victoria and they were in our cabin when we got there. The sights are unbelievable..... We live on the west coast and we thought we knew what beautiful was until we took this trip..... I shot over 700 photos in 7 days. Holland America was fantastic... if you have never seen a glacier before your heart will skip when you see these things! Icebergs are the most awesome colour of blue ! I assure you, if you go with this and we can scrape the cash for another set of tickets we will go also. Oh and if you are cheap like us..... expect 1,500 USD spending loot.... plus booze! It was the first time in 23 yrs we had left our kids and taken a holiday. It was worth the wait, but we will not wait that long again.
  4. I invite everyone that is also using facebook to keep in touch with their friends and family to check into this facebook link. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=66782887392 This is a group of young (early 20's) university students from Victoria BC Canada. These ... let me call them kids, and yes I am the proud father of one of them..... are setting up to ride bicycles across canada to raise money for a very very good cause that should be very close in any long term riders mind, Brain Injury. This facebook link is only to help build awareness that these kids are going ahead to do this.... there is no request for money anywhere. My son Brad (22 yrs old) is one of the driving forces behind this and is going to be the main rider. He will have one of his female and one male cousin join him on the ride. He will likely have have my 18 yr old son drive a motor home... if they can get one.... Trec bicycles are giving him some bicycles at cost and many other sponsors are coming on board as they progress. Ride safe all................ Kevin
  5. Staying off takes a life time of work.... it is worth it. I quit 6 or 7 years back now... The company I was working for offered us all $500.00 to quit. I am not sure about you guys but I thought about all the things I could use all that cash for......mmmmmm. One of my co-workers also tried but failed even after gum, patches, m&ms, and even the hypnososis guy that came to the hotel for one night only and all his tapes he sold along with it. One of the things you mentioned was that you snuck a smoke from the wifes pack..... Well I will tell you what finaly helped my co-worker quit...... His wife also continued to smoke.... heavily I may add. I dont know what smokes cost down there but up in Canada they are close to $10.00 a pack. He took himself the same money his wife spent on smokes.... put in in his own bank acount and spent it on cars.... he would buy them wrench them and sell them all with his smoking money. Soooooo think of all the toys and stuff you want for your bike and every time you think of having a smoke think of the toys.... what do you want more........ Just my thoughts... the other thing is ...... stop counting..... I was told if you can tell me the number of days you have been with out a smoke then you are not a non smoker.... you are just taking a break. I hounestly do not know how long it has been.... I could look back in my records... I have other markers in my life I can refer to but no I dont know exactly.
  6. Ok... 18 years in the heating trade... take it or leave it...... If you save a couple dollars this year with a new electric system then maybe next year the prices change and you are back to even or behind. IF you have a good quality propane furnace... up here we use natural gas.... then switching to electric will be a band-aid at best. Like I often hear when the price of gas goes up... it will cost you an extra $0.50 to fill a tank...ouch... but then the price goes down again....even ! Take the money you THINK you may save over the next 5-10 years and INVEST it in your home. High insulation windows... doors... energy star apliances.... low energy light fixtures..... etc etc etc..... This WILL save you money, hoping a new furnace will save you money is a way too big of gamble. Energy costs are going up, it will not matter what fuel you are using..... learn to use less. I have a 94% efficiant natural gas furnace in my home, along with a good programable thermostat. Control the house temprature set back at night and when you are at work.
  7. What kind of temprature does the average '86 venture run at.... my guage seldom moves by much unless I am in traffic. The fan only comes on when temp is very high.
  8. July long weekend traveled to Huricane Ridge State Park in Washinton State..... What a beautiful place. Me with my 86 Venture. My brother was along on his 06 BMW GS1200. Not sure how to attach pictures here so I hope this worked.
  9. It's looking a lot like christmas here........ A cold minus 5 C out side... wind is kicking up.... expecting up to 90 Km/hr comiing at us.... forcast is for upwards of 27 cm of snow in next 24 hrs. So for all of you below the 49th..... that is about 21*F close to a foot of snow and about 55 mph winds. We have been frozen for near 10 days.... longest time since 1991 set record lows and we may have a white christmas.... the record keepers say we had one in my life but that is all. Not bad for a place that does not get snow........ And I have a 2005 suzuki gs500 in the driveway I bought 3 weeks ago and want to ride. Enjoy all...... Merry Christmas
  10. That white stuff you guys all talk about..... SNOW ..... Last night ( Saturday ) it snowed in beautiful Victoria. It would seem that IT is going to stick around for a week or so. THAT is a long time to go without being able to take the bikes out of the garage. I kinda know now how you guys in the east and south east must feel. I never missed a whole week of riding for a long time....... I may not be able to go for a christmas ride....oh what to do now?
  11. spelling is a HUGE subject then.................... new I should not have skipped those classes in grade 3.............
  12. Google it ! Yes I did... and CO is about the only state in the union that does not have a Nothrop as a city.... if you find Northtop st in Loveland CO you will find a very large chunk of vacant land. Come on guys,,,,, the man says cash only no certifide cheques....... shake the heads some..... send me cash I have a very very sexy bridge for sale..... no certifide cheques cash only......................
  13. Rode the Venture to work today.... it is not sunny and warm.... heated vest....polish the wind screen..... nice cruze to work.... suposed to be sunny this after noon but will be dark for the ride home also... about 48*F for the high today.......
  14. Don't blame the children........ children only know what they are taught......
  15. I see a V Max when I look at it......
  16. Canadian Biker Mag did a write-up on it last month.... they are kinda saying what the F*&^# are they doing? It has no storage or opitional bags... the do not want to offer any dress up toys incase that influences people to change it. MY wife had a honda-matic 400 back in 198? But it is a big bike and looks kinda wow!
  17. The best of luck..... A cause known to all men but yes... most ignorred. My wife says for my 50th birthday coming up in the new year she is making me see the doctor. Her brother would not see his docor even when he was sure he had a problem. In Canada we help raise money for Prostate research by riding .... I dont know about where you may live but look and see if you can find something simular in your area. Any time I can ride my motorcycle and help a good cause... sign me up. Check out The Ride for Dad...... http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/ west coast (vancouver Island) is my area
  18. If you had a car that you wanted better sound in what they do is box the speakers in or if they are door mounted they add door deading products to direct the sound to you not away from you.
  19. If you get a polishing kit from a some place specializing in metal, Aluminium can be polished to look better than chrome. You can do this to those crappy looking yellowy covers on the motor sides too. The yellowing is the coating put on the metal in the factory it was made in, to protect it.... paint stripper type stuff on those and buff till the part looks as buff as you do...... it will look better than it did new..... Polished Aluminium is fantastic.... if you don't want to keep polishing it.... find a clear coating such as Flecto or Tremclad.... wash the part off with campstove fuel to make it clean..... no fingers to touch it after it has been cleaned.... it will look great for a few years.
  20. Sorry to hear that you guys are living in the new land of ice and snow..... Finally some relief for us Canadians getting the ribbing on the cold weather.....
